I think that my system is "locked" into running version 3.x.x when I run
"startx". It is using XF86Config instead of XF86Config-4. The RH7.1
install was an "everything" install, using the text-version of the
installer. I then did an upgrade using the graphical-version of the
installer, and had it install all desktops/X stuff. And startx still does
the same thing.

I am now thinking that what I should do is wipe the HD clean, and re-install
RH7.1, but this time not install X. Then, afterwards install X separately
from the rpm's located at XFree86. That way, I should have only 1 version
of X, and remove any doubts about versions.

Using XFree86 -version filled my screen with lots of things and went way
past any version number that might have shown. The output won't pipe to a
file for examination.

Steve
