You are probably referring to the CS sysadmins. They don't burn CDs for people any more. You should grab your own and burn it yourself.

Yup. You'll have to do some light footwork to actually save the stuff to your hard drive, but if you have a zip or floppy it's pretty easy.

Knoppix is a "live CD". You have to stick it in your computer each time you want to use it, like some video games. If you are looking to have Linux on there permanently, you'll want to try out RedHat. Check out our installfest next Saturday for help (see website for details: http://uug.byu.edu/).
