Indeed, although the 'additional configuration information'
bit wasn't from me.

This issue has actually come up several times in conversations
with people who don't like the shift requirement (some of whom
have put off upgrading to S10 as a result). I even got asked
how to avoid the shift requirement in a job interview.

I've ended up reverting my snv42 test machine back to S10U2 to
get sane JDS behaviour (fortunately hadn't upgraded my zfs pool).

Customizable I can live with.
