Thanks to all who replied. I did end up wiring the fan up. I decided that it would be best to have it suck air from the processor compartment into the drive bays, given that I do not want it drawing air in via the floppy/CD-ROM drives. (Not even sure if the floppy drive works, and probably will never use it.) I will be putting a Seagate Cheetah in the lower bay at some point, so it probably will require the cooling boost.

I'll see how it runs for now, noise not being a factor. I can always take the fan out again.

Subject: [PCI] 7500 Fan Configurations

Hello:

Just got a 7500 used. It has an extra fan kicking around in the drive
bay, which appears to theoretically be blowing on the processor--ie. it
is there, but was not connected to a power source. The repair manual
for this machine does not show a fan in this location--though the case
is clearly designed for one. Has anyone ever seen a fan in this
location, and if so, does it blow or suck on the processor? Since it is
in there, I guess I might as well wire it up and use it--just need to
know which way it should be blowing air.

Thanks.

So... given what others have said, don't bother unless you have special needs like non standard hot running HDs
