It was always interesting that no matter how little resolution a
newspaper PJ actually needed, they were recording ore so that the
picture could always be reproduced in a better medium.  One thing that
the current generation of digital does is that it encourages you to use
the minimum res needed to enhance storage, transmission, etc.  This PJ
who shoots sports for the Globe  used the N D1Hsince the 2.3 Mp images
would transfer quickly over the old Fenway park phone lines.  One side
effect is that this pictures will never get better, although film
shooters record more information whether they needed it or not.

Of course, digital will improve.  I wonder how long it will be before
the technology makes all of these questions become irrelevant?  Time
table aside, does anyone see any ultimate limitation on digital that
can't be overcome anytime soon,  i.e., within 25 years?
