I have used the Pentax cleaning kit twice in the Ds - there is some stuff that just can't be blown away, and it seems to arrive at the sensor a day before some important shot.
A good blower is very important indeed, but there is no way a blower carried loose in the bag would remain clean long, and even one left open in a shelve is prone to blow some more dust into the sensor. I keep a small in the bag, zipped, and a big one at home, also zipped, right next to the cleaning kit.
