Just a few thoughts. I shoot with both Pentax and Nikon. My reasons
are unimportant. But switching systems is very expensive and not
something to be done based on a bunch of nattering in the forums.

If you look at the lens lines of both companies you'll see that Pentax
has firmly committed to the aps-c format and has designed an excellent
line of lenses for that format. No matter whether you shoot with
zooms or primes you can assemble a very nice set of lenses that give
good coverage over a fairly wide range. And by the way, there is
nothing like the Pentax 10-17 zoom.

Nikon, on the other hand has an excellent range of lenses for the full
frame cameras, but has made some puzzling choices as to the selection
of crop format lenses. And the selection of compact primes is
non-existent. So look at the lens line carefully if you lean toward
the D7000.

Nikon Full Frame has a good selection of lenses but they are very
expensive. You probably can't find a D700 right now even if you
wanted one. It's at end of life and everyone is expecting an
announcement of a follow on camera in the next few days. But don't
hold your breath.

And don't forget - Pentax builds shake reduction into the camera body.
With Nikon you end up paying for vibration reduction with every lens.
That makes the lenses a bit bigger, heavier and more expensive.

So - I'd say look at the lens lines of both companies, think of how
you like to shoot and buy accordingly. And as soon as you buy
something quit reading the forums. Don't look back. Get out and
shoot.
