Hi,
All this speak of the Garmin GPS18x LVC prompted me to dig out my Garmin
receiver and hook it up.
I went and downloaded the firmware, connected it to my Windows PC
and.... I
noticed my receiver is a GPS18 LVC - won't accept the 3.70 firmware.
Browsing Garmin's website I found that there's an update from 3.20
(which it
currently holds) to 3.30, will this break things?
(The link below mentions firmwares up to 3.20 and 3.70 for the GPS18x
are ok
- should I assume the same for GPS18? ie. not upgrade to 3.30?)
The only thing mentioned in the changelog from 3.20->3.30 is: .Fixed the
GPGGA sentence to report the GPS fix quality indication as '6' when the
unit
is in dead reckoning phase.
So not sure it's even worth trying for 'simple' timekeeping use, though.
Cheers,
Kim
Kim,
The original GPS 18 LVC does not have the timing problem, only the newer
and more sensitive GPS 18x LVC. I would suggest applying the first rule
of networking: "If it works, leave it".
Cheers,
David
