I think Barnett's got a deeper affinity for the Bradley/Patsy Cline sound
than lang did.
It was nice to see Harold Bradley and Buddy Harman backing Barnett on
Letterman last night, and even nicer (for a bluegrasser) to see the fabulous
Ernie Sykes playing the upright bass. Was the steel player Hal Rugg? I'm
not very good at recognize those steel guys, since they always seem to have
their faces pointed down, either to look at what they're doing or to avoid
being ID'd by any law enforcement/bill collector types in the audience.
The one thing that makes me wish I'd been there in person was that when they
came back from the last break, they - Shaffer and Barnett's backup - were
just finishing up "Last Date," and I'd like to have heard that.
