Where previously I had only considered an Apple or Formac TFT, it now seems some of the more recent products on the market have advanced the level of spec you can expect. But are any of these monitors any good.....

Perhaps I should have been clearer.
Whilst the previous thread was interesting in empirical evaluations of monitors, I was rather hoping for some reasonings and insights into what people had found about the underlying meanings of the specifications.

One big one is the Contrast Ratio. Where the Apple and Formac are both 350:1, I see some monitors claiming up to 700:1.

Response times I see are also dropping, from 29ms to 12ms.

Also what about the viewing angle? I find this a difficult bit of info to extract from the specs.

And finally, what "smoothing" does each monitor achieve?
The inherent "grainy-ness" of TFT screens was something that always put me off. Business machines are unlikely to take account of Smoothing, indeed see it as a bonus for an added 'sharpening effect'. But some do mention it in the spec.

Given that its very difficult to go into a showroom and see many, if any, monitors side by side, any added info would be useful.
