Okay, I exaggerated slightly for effect in saying 100%, but still - look at the discussions on python-ideas about those. I'm not sure about 618, but certainly 616 got a ridiculous level of negativity until it moved to python-dev, where it actually got some support, which is how it came to be implemented.
