Hi, This system is not tied into Optics. Merchant
Marine retiree and he did not see the value in that. If it ran
on steam, he might have gone for it.
I will check the hub. It is the original hub (11
years old). I have a system of the same vintage (w/r to Hub)
and it is displaying correctly. I'll bring a bunch of spare
cables and see if that is the issue. Thank you, Chris

Hi Chris,
What type of charge controller is it? Older charge
controllers seem to have issues interacting with the Mate 3s
perfectly. Oddly, many times it will report the data OK to
OpticsRE. Which Hub do you have? Mate 3s needs to be
paired to a Hub 10.3. Also, you may try changing ports in
the Hub and of course cables.
We are having our own issues with one
project that we just converted from a Mate2 that
failed to a Mate3S. The charge controller settings
contain none of the data that we have programmed in.
We have made 4 trips to the site on the recommendation
of Outback to try the sometimes really odd ideas on
how to troubleshoot from them. We initially went to
their forum to get better technical support, and they
directed us to submit a "trouble ticket" via their
website, which sent us on this goose chase. My own
system is very similar to this customers and my Mate3S
displays properly. Long story short, we have not been
able to get the display of this part of the device to
work properly. We have sent 20 pictures to Outback to
show this and the person at the other end seems unable
to grasp that this is the issue.
Please remove this picture if you
respond to save file space.

Perhaps someone from
Outback who is on the list would care to comment?
Anyone from OutBack on this?
Perhaps it’s something
different since you’re saying “front panel looks
perfectly normal” but it’s difficult for me to
think of any of my sites that don’t experience the
Mate3-s freezing up from time to time requiring a
quick disconnect and reconnect of the Cat5 cables.
Some sites do seem more frequent than others but
overall I’ve just come to accept this and be sure
to provide my clients with a tutorial of how to
fix when I walk them through the initial
commissioning instruction. I point out both places
to unplug and highlight the greater accessibility
of the 1st Mate port in the Hub versus on the back
of the Mate often attached to the wall. Of course
nobody remembers when it happens six months down
the line either. I can also tell how often my
client actually pays attention since it’s not
uncommon to show up at a site for something else
and discover a frozen Mate3-s. In general, I’ve
just come to expect this and since it’s always
fixed with a couple minute effort I don’t see it
as being a major issue for the majority of my
customers.
As far as Hughesnet goes I also
have issues at those sites. No easy way around it.
Seems like Opticsre is slightly more stable than
the older Blue Ion 2.0 monitoring though. Next
time you speak with your favorite battery or
inverter manufacturer be sure to express your
dislike of this newer trend which does away with
integrated hardware for monitoring. I still have a
lot of “old timers” that can care less to have
their monitoring online and although it makes my
life easier the manufacturers need to accept that
there is a large part of the off grid world that
does not have reliable internet nor an age
demographic that cares to navigate this new world
of connectivity. There is no substitute for on
site monitoring hardware that displays battery
SOC. If an inexpensive Goal Zero can do it why
can’t our favorite $20k batteries?
I've had several
Mates go offline (refuse to send data)
to the host lately. Totally different
sites. The front panel looks perfectly
normal. But they can only be restored by
unplugging the Lan and Hub cables, then
a normal reboot will occur and OpticsRE
is restored. Ideas???
