Calling all SB computer wizz-kids! As a restult of my SB obsession (and I don't think that's too strong a word) I decided to do some updating to my PC. Quite a lot of updating actually, basically I've built a new one.
Anyway I need your collective brain power. My old machine was an ancient socket 478 P4 2.53 with 1Gb of RAM, my new machine is a socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3000 'Venice' with 1Gb of fast 3200 DDR RAM. Both are/were running XP Professional. The problem is that my crusty old machine would rip a CD to Apple Lossless using iTunes at speeds of up to x25-x30 but my new Uber PC manages... wait for it.. x2-x3 The strange thing is that everything else about the way it works seems faster so this slow ripping came as a bit of a shock to say the least.
