Slimserver cannot use iTunes downloaded music that has the Apple DRM. Sadly Apple doesn't like anyone else playing with their toys.
The format that iTunes rips to is dependent on the advanced settings in 'preferences'. You can use Wave, Apple Lossless (ALAC for short), or AIFF. Generally you should forget about AIFF. WAVE will give you a larger file size, and no imbedded tags, whereas ALAC is normally a little more than half the size of the WAVE file, and has imbedded tags. Unfortunately ALAC cannot be played natively in the SB, unlike FLAC (another lossless format). This means that ALAC files are converted by Slimserver to WAVE before being streamed, and thus increases the traffic over the network. Equally unfortunately you cannot rip to FLAC in iTunes, and also FLAC files cannot be played with iTunes, an iPod, or an AppleTV. -- bigfool1956 David Ayers Music is what counts, hifi just helps us enjoy it more ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bigfool1956's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42736 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
