With respect to Eric, the comment about the bandwidth of ALAC is
slightly misleading, as it cannot be played natively in the SB itself,
thus it has to be transcoded (to wave for lossless) in slimserver and
so the bandwidth on the network would approximately double that of
FLAC.

On the other hand, many people have reported that they can hear a
difference between streamed wave and flac files on the SB, with the
majority who falling on the side of preferring wave.

I have a Transporter, not an SB, and I much prefer streamed flac to
wave - so it's not clear cut.

Myself I use ALAC with iTunes for my iPod and AppleTV, and flac for my
Transporter. They are kept on separate discs, which gives me an almost
perfect backup strategy by default, but there are other reasons why I
do it this way.

However, assuming you don't have bandwidth problems, then I would
support Eric, and say if you like iTunes, then rip to Apple Lossless
(ALAC) and integrate with the SB that way.
