WAV files will be as large as AIFF, or approx 10MB per stereo minute. I
rip everything ALAC using iTunes and have no problem with SlimServer
playing them. It only needs QuickTime installed to translate on the
fly. The quality is as good as FLAC and I can still use iTunes for
tagging as well as re-encode to AAC from the ALAC files for my iPod.

ALAC and FLAC files are generally half the size of WAV or AIFF and
usually top out at 1Mbps bandwidth.

If you're using a Mac and want to stay there, and you prefer iTunes to
handle your library, it's very simple to make it work.

If you want to play with FLAC instead, there's a great, FREE ripper
called MAX at http://sbooth.org/Max/

If you purchased PROTECTED files from iTunes, the ONLY way to get them
to play anywhere is to burn it as an Audio CD and re-rip. Remember
that your quality will NEVER be better than the original 128kbps AAC
you purchased, so there's no need to make them ALAC or FLAC.
