>This is something new for me. I thought ALBUMARTSIST was the same as
>BAND.
No, it's not.

In id3v2.3 tags, there is a piece of information called the TPE2 frame, which
is used for holding the Band/Orchestra. There is no defined tag for holding
Album Artist information.
So the TPE2 frame was abused to be used for storing Album Artist information,
at the cost of band/orchestra information.

i.e. Mp3Tag calls this tag "BAND", whereas other applications may call it
"Album Artist" (data is stored in the Band field, also known as TPE2).

>In MP3Tag when I look at extended tags there is only a field named
>BAND (no ALBUMARTSIST), but in the normal working window it is called
>ALBUMARIST.
I think the default configuration may depend on the version of Mp3Tag - it was
changed back and forth a year or so ago.

Squeezebox Server can be configured to interpret TPE2 as either Band or Album
Artist.

id3v2.3 allows custom tags to be stored; so you can create an ALBUM ARTIST (or
ALBUMARTIST) custom tag (uses the TXXX frame).

It is possible to define custom tags in Mp3Tag (I think there's a SqueezeCenter
wiki entry on how to configure Mp3Tag if you can't work it out).

Squeezebox Server will look for the presence of these custom tags; this is also
how it works for most other tag formats (eg. FLAC tags).

So, if you use the custom ALBUM ARTIST tag, you can use TPE2 for its intended
purpose - Band/Orchestra.

It's not - there's no standard for it.

>But I really like your idea for albums containing two "Main Artists" on
>1 album! That is the 4th case...

It's not really a 4th case - it is the same as case 1, 2 or 3 - in any case,
you can define 1 or more ARTIST, COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR, BAND tag - they are all
multi-value.

>No Plant. But here comes the compilation setting around again :-)
Works for me without COMPILATION=0. When you tried changing tags, did you do a
full clear&rescan?
