After all, it has to do *something* if there is no other information to go on. What is the alternative? If it had not made your album a compilation, with album artist "Various Artists", then what would it have done? It would have ended up with multiple albums with the same name, one for each track artist. The songs would not be joined together onto one album. The logic has been implemented this way for this exact reason.
