Without getting too into the discussion and debate above; Recently I started noticing problems in my Squeezebox DB that I didn't understand that seemed to be revolving around TXXX tags.
I now think that this whole AA vs BAND and TPE2 and TXXX switch is probably the root of my problem: My standard of operation was to utilize a TXXX AlbumArtist field (I've automated it so much over time I don't remember whether I had the space or not) in addition to the TPE2 BAND field. Currently, both field exist for all albums and until the past year the BAND field was used as an AlbumArtist field (because I primarily used MediaMonkey, Winamp, etc for my music purposes). Within the last 1 or 2 years I switched so that I might try to expand upon my metadata for BAND (Orchestras, Support Bands, Jazz groups, etc) while taking advantage of Squeezeserver (and associated plugins) ability to seperate the two fields. Well, I have never gotten far on the BAND thing and by default the TPE2 and TXXX AlbumArtist tag are set equivalent until I change one or the other. In the past month, I started finding that my CustomBrowse menu for Album Artist was basically corrupted and it traced back to the tags themselves (i.e. the menu isn't the problem, the tags are). I now think that the above swap of TPE2 and TXXX tags is the issue, which I suppose is ok in the sense that I might now understand the reason for the problem, but not ok in the sense that I'll have to figure out a way to make MP3tag work the way I want or find an alternative to MP3tag, neither of which I am looking forward to. As far as using an Album Artist tag on each album, I like this method as it allowed me to determine my own compilations, and it allowed me to group albums by variations on an artist's name into the same album artist (e.g. Miles Davis for all permutations of Miles Davis and his bands). I also used it to put artists into a "Last, First" organization before and even currently for software that doesn't use ArtistSort tags. Now, I am going to have to investigate my collection and see just how the tags are being set up and see if I can somehow fix MP3Tag to do what I want so that Squeezebox and all other music software can handle the tags correctly. -- emalvick ------------------------------------------------------------------------ emalvick's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35382 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83073 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
