No, it's not working correctly for you. As I said before, I get the correct behavior in the same situation.
You should have both of the individual artists, and you should NOT have the artists "Eric Clapton, B.B. King" or "Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds" in the list when you browse artists. What are the settings you use under Setting > My Music > Compilations? Do you use a COMPILATON=0 tag in these files?
