You should be able to do it in Mp3tag. There's an action called 'Split
field by separator' that does exactly this.

You don't necessarily have to get rid of the ALBUMARTIST tags - just be
careful of what they contain. What I've always done is every time I rip
an album, I open it up in Mp3tag and run some actions on it. For
instance, I create ARTISTSORT tags, double-checking what is in
ALBUMARTIST, add ALBUMARTISTSORT.

My tagging habit is to have an ALBUMARTIST on all albums, all tracks,
even though it's redundant 95% of the time. Where it's most useful is on
albums with either guest artists, or albums where you want to tag with
both the individual artists and a band or combo. For example, you might
do either of the following:

ALBUM: Backwater Blues
ALBUMARTIST: Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee
ARTIST: Sonny Terry
ARTIST: Brownie McGhee

or

ALBUM: Backwater Blues
ARTIST: Sonny Terry
ARTIST: Brownie McGhee

In the first example, you'll end up with an artist named "Sonny Terry &
Brownie McGhee" in your library. If you don't want that artist, use the
second form.

With compilations, the server will usually detect when there are
different artists on the tracks and register the album as a compilation.
However, when there's an ALBUMARTIST field present, it will normally
register the album as a non-compilation. So, as a general rule, always
add a COMPILATION=1 field to compilations. Typically, most people will
omit the ALBUMARTST field from compilations, but you can still include
it if you have COMPILATION=1.
