Good information, Dave.  So it would seem that $32 for a currently produced 
Athearn HO (mass produced by the several thousands of units in China) body 
shell could be compared (sort of) to an American Models body shell for $50.  
Thus, an $18 differential.  Painted vs. Undec and "with details" vs. "no 
details" is certainly an interesting factor, but for kitbashing I tend to agree 
with Pieter/Andre that Undec is preferable since it eliminates the need for 
stripping paint.  Still, all in all, I think that the American Models price is 
not unreasonable when compared to Athearn.  Lower production volumes for an S 
scale product make a world of difference with injection molded products.
