I think it is a mistake to critically compare models designed and tooled in 
the late 80's with offering today.  I know when the AM FP7 arrived in the early 
80's, we all thought it was the nicest RTR plastic model diesel in S Scale.  
When we (SHS) marketed the FA2s for Ron, I do not remember anyone complaining 
about the details on these models.  Again, that was 20 years ago.  I know we 
learned from these models and like Ron did with his FP7, attempted to improve 
our models over ones that were offered earlier.
