Re: Best laptop that is fully accessible and will last for 6 years!
Re: Best laptop that is fully accessible and will last for 6 years! In my opinion, six years is asking a bit much. Technology is always advancing, and we really don't know what will be the big thing six years from now. Six years ago I still had an iPhone 4S. At least in the circles I'm in, anyone who still uses an iPhone 4S today would be seen as hopelessly out of date. Also, most laptops have custom motherboards specifically designed for that computer, so repairs can be expensive, etc. If five years down the road, that one chip goes out that's no longer available, you'll be out of luck. Re: An exciting update!
Re: An exciting update! Hi.Wow, this is awesome. Congratulations! I thought the accessibility was going down the hill because we haven't heard from Karen for very long time.I hope so much that Narrator on the Xbox will read the menus in Madden and all other text in the future. If everything is being read, then I think it would be easier for those who are new to the game to get started. That would also make the game much more accessible. The menus in Crackdown 3 and Division 2 are read out loud by Narrator. Then, EA can do that as well. Then, here in Europe, it would be amazing if Fifa could be made accessible as well. I don't know much about the game, so I can't give any feedback regarding this.It would be amazing if we had talking menus in UFC as well. I don't know about other sport games which might be playable.Keep up the fantastic job. This is extremely exciting news. Question about bgt handles
Question about bgt handles Hi,I'm stuck on the idea of handles with BGT. At the moment, I develop mainly in Java, and I'm used to passing objects directly to functions. For instance, I can do this with an array:Person person = new Person();Person[] personArray = new Person[1];personArray[0] = person; In BGT, that would look something like this:Person person;Person[]@ personArray = Person[1];@personArray[0] = @person;I'm not sure if my BGT was 100 percent right but the idea is there. How do the @ signs work, when do you use them, and are handles basically references? Why can you not pass the object like this:Person[] personArray = Person[1];personArray[0] = person;Thank you. Re: On the rewrite of Oh Shit Totally, go for it man! I still love this game, especially the Runner mode!I would suggest, however, that at the very least a copy of the current (presumed to be final) version of the game as it stands now, using the current (soon to be old) codebase, be preserved somewhere, probably the Audiogames Archive, just so people could see where we came from, even years from now. Even better if we could have at least one version from the era where powerups could spawn randomly just like rocks. I didn't keep old versions around, and have no idea how many old versions of the game still exist anywhere, but it definitely needs to be preserved in its current state so we know where we came from. Re: Sryth 2019 Kickstarter
Re: Sryth 2019 Kickstarter I...have serious doubts about this. I'm sorry, but I view with considerable cynicism a claim of needing more money when the last, I dunno, half-decade or so has seen a ton of unfulfilled promises and such. He's saying that Sryth is his main method of making money, so he's been focusing on multi-player scenarios and special packages and heaven knows what, at the cost of actual game development and interesting adventures. It's not completely dead, but it's...wobbly, at the least. The way you keep people playing is by giving them more of what they like, not by becoming aggressively interested in the money of your players. In other words, I hope this does, in fact, precede new and better things, but I'm not in a position to consider backing, and even if I were, I'm not sure I would. Re: The things that go crash while gaming This topic is awesome lol. So far, i haven’t broke anything while gaming. However i really have tried hard to crash my table but it won’t fucking break. I broke my phone once though. It’s many years ago so im afraid i don’t remember it very well but here goes: I was in school, it was just a terrible day, i was tired, frustrated and just in a bad mood. So I decided to call my mom and said i was sick. While we were talking, my teacher decided to enter the room. She apparently hird what i told my mom, and off course she started to say something like you can’t just do that. That pissed me so much off, so with out saying anything, I decided to throw my phone across the room and right into a wall.Let us just say, it didn’t survived that. If you have to do a rewrite of the code to tidy things up and make cool stuff possible, I'd say go ahead!I don't usually keep data between versions of Oh Shit anyways, so I wouldn't mind that much at all. xD URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/413294/#p413294 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: A fiew questions about raspberry pi There's other blind community answers you can find over on [Raspberry VI], in general Raspbian Lite is used which doesn't have a visual interface, as its largely considered redundant and isn't accessible out of the box anyway, although there are other OS's like Android or Debian you could also use. Typically users SSH in to the raspberry pi either through Wifi or an ethernet cable, when flashing your SD card you can setup both SSH and the Wifi on the card before plugging it into the raspberry pi. You also won't need any sighted assistance for this.As for audio, as FamilyMario mentioned the HDMI covers audio, although you'll also need an HDMI compatible monitor to do that. The 3.5mm audio jack is a reliable source, and as for Bluetooth... The Raspberry Pi does have Bluetooth and Wifi support, but there have been issues related to Bluetooth audio in the not too distant past. Re: Ideas, concepts, mechanics, go wild! How abouta game where you breed and train super-intelligent dogs in a futuristic world where hunting for your own food is a way of life? You would have to train your dogs not only to hunt food for you but also for themselves so they could supplement whatever food you could find for them. you could also train dogs for fights in dogfighting pits, and let's make those semi-legal; that is, everyone knows they exist but the government gets paid or bribed to look the other way by dogfighting breeders. You could have the option of fighting in the pits to make more money, but with the penalty of having dogs who would mistrust you and, being intelligent enough to make their own decisions at higher levels, they might decide either to turn on you or escape. And we need more fantasy RPGS based in cultures other than medieval Europe; Asia or West Africa for example. BGT has like a simple documentation thing, with Python you gotta find out which documentation thing would be right for you, you have to make you're own compiler and/or compilation error check I think, and you can't just press enter on a script or else it will just show up with the command line and all that stuff.Granted, I do not know much about Python, maybe I am totally wrong about this, but if you could please point me in the right direction.I am not a good coder in BGT either, but it seems like it is a hell of a lot simpler than Python seems to be. On the rewrite of Oh Shit

On the rewrite of Oh Shit Hi guys,When I first wrote Oh Shit, it was literally a boredom filled Saturday night wherein I just decided to write a little game because I had nothing else to do. I did not expect people to really like it, or even pay it any attention whatsoever. I was thinking I'd post it on the forum, get maybe 3 "oh yeah cool" posts, and everyone be done with it.However, it turns out that... a lot of you guys like to play it, and a lot of you guys have really good suggestions as to what you'd like me to do. Different offline modes, different online modes... ahem menu music and sounds? Duh?Given all the suggestions I've been getting, the game as it is doesn't feel complete. It feels like... how do I describe it. Like a house, with 3 walls - yeah it's usable, but it's got a gaping hole of incompleteness in it... and the current state doesn't feel right to me.However, the code is very... messy right now. Adding new modes would be a royal pain. Like I said I never expected it to go anywhere, so I didn't optimize it for adding new modes and such. Hell, even the Minigame took a while to code because I had to code a new class and everything, change a bunch of... oh you guys don't care about programming. Bottom line, adding new modes, and especially an online mode... that would be a huge pain in the ass.If I rewrite a lot of the code I can add new modes both offline and online, I can do that sound pack thing people wanted where you have separate folders for the sounds you want, and generally all that will be easier. Not to mention, I can add menu sounds and music, and sounds for those pop-ups, and of course game music. So at the risk of losing your current data, which I can't promise I'll be able to prevent, would you guys be alright with an Oh Shit rewrite? For me personally, the completing of the game and a much better set-up would be worth it, but I know everyone has different opinions. So yeah, let me know what ya think. Re: A fiew questions about raspberry pi
Re: A fiew questions about raspberry pi The Raspberry Pi is truly an amazing little computer, and people have done some really good stuff with it. I have one, and it's great!first, What os can blind people use with this computer? The main operating system that powers the Raspberry Pi is Raspbian. You could get Orca running on it (don't know how well it works though, but I hear conflicting reports that speech crackles and stutters, but I could very well be wrong). In the end, it all depends on what you want to do with the Pi.second, can i install os without help of sited people? The Raspberry Pi's form of storage is a micro SD card, so you'd essentially flash a SD card image with any program you like (the most famous programs I know of for flashing SD cards are Win32DiskImager and Etcher on Windows). As for the initial setup, most of the time you won't get accessibility out of the box, so you will need sighted assistance.and third, what speakers do i need for raspberry pi, eg with usb connection, 3.5mm jak, or raspbery pi have bluetooth and i can connect my bluetooth speaker? To answer that question, if you're going to connect the Pi to an HDMI monitor you won't need speakers since the HDMI signal outputs both audio and video. However, since we're talking about external speakers, you can use the onboard 3.5mm audio jack for that, as I don't think USB audio will work, but I'd be surprised if it did. As for Bluetooth, if you are using a Raspberry Pi 3, it has onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. You could connect your speakers, but since I don't use Bluetooth speakers with what I'm using my Pi for, I'm not sure if they will work. Given how slow advancement is and how many hundreds of combat messages there are, I don't see one happening any time soon either. Not to mention the fact that you can have up to a dozen combat messages in one round depending on your spam filter. If combat is slow for you you probably don't have enough dex to do the higher level content. If anyone would like to see some of what's possible, look up Karnath, Fael, Nightblade or Gamling in the hall of heroes. Re: Why I like old music discussion
Re: Why I like old music discussion I have a huge collection of music of all varieties, but I definitely find older music to be more comforting. When I was growing up, my parents, my mom, who's more into classic rock and pop, and my dad, who's mostly into classic country played music around the house constantly. My dad has always been into collecting a lot of vintage/antique things, and when I was little, he went through a phase where arcade cabinets were his thing. So, in our basement, we had a pinball machine or two, Asteroids, one of those bowling games where you put sand down on the board and pushed the metal puck thing to knock down the pins, and, my favorite, a jukebox. I spent many, many hours as a kid listening to records and playing those games. When my dad eventually lost the job he had at the time, we had to sell all of that stuff, but we kept all the records that had been inside the jukebox, because my dad knew how much they meant to me. To this day, I still have them, they're my most prized possessions, and I take good care of them while still spinning them on occasion. Listening to a lot of those songs takes me back to some of the best memories I have. Unfortunately, when I started going to school, and kids would ask me what music I liked, I would rattle off a list of classic artists, and they would be genuinely confused. Then, that puzzlement turned to scorn, and it became one more thing that I was made fun of for. Finally, after catching on a few years too late, I started to realize that maybe, just maybe, I should try to see what all the hype was about the Backstreet Boys and such. So I started getting my hands on the Now That's What I Call Music series, which I honestly can't believe is still a thing. It was as good a place to start as any, and it made me realize how locked into only liking the top 40 most people are. Now, this was the late 90's, early 2000's, and I have some guilty pleasures which I quite like from that time. Then, as a teenager, I started getting into a lot of rock music. During all that time, I denied that I ever liked any of the classics I'd grown up on, and actively ridiculed them to cover up the fact that I really missed all the associations I had with them. Luckily, I started to come around when I was maybe 16 or 17, I started listening to all of those different styles, from what I'd grown up with, to the rock and metal I'd developed a fondness for, and that's how I began expanding my music collection over time. Now I have almost 6TB worth of stuff from tons of genres, but now it's not being accused of being weird for liking older music you have to worry about, although that does happen, it's being accused of being a hipster. I guess you can't win no matter what you do.Anyway, my favorite time period in music history is the 1960's. Everyone was an individual, everyone was evolving. yeah, a good deal of that evolution was drug-induced, but no matter how it happened, it did happen. I sometimes feel like I should have been born during that time, that I would have fit in better as a person. Musically, everything was exploding. They say a musical revolution happens every 30 years, so I suppose we're due for one soon, but I can't see what could possibly top Beatlemania, or even the grunge movement of the 90's, not with what we currently have going on. What will it be, tracks written by AI? I guess that will be revolutionary, but it won't be one I want to have any part of. Re: Why I like old music discussion
Re: Why I like old music discussion My musical interests are quite different from many others here. Lately I’ve been listening to music from the Andes in South America. This music often has a quite noticeable indigenous American influence. Guitars and other string instruments usually play the chords and baseline, with sometimes quite loud flutes taking the melody. These songs are either in Spanish, and sometimes in indigenous languages such as quechua or aymara. There is modern music from this region, which is somewhat the same as the older stuff, but I think I will always like the older recordings better. They sound more authentic, more real. There is also really good old music from latin america. Like that stuff too. I used to listen to it a lot.Haven't looked in to this as much, but I have heard some of it. There is some pretty good old music from africa as well.Basically, just about anywhere you loock. And everywhere you look, you may see the same reoccurring pattern. At least I do. I like the older stuff a lot better.I like world music especially from older times because it lets me see in some cases cultures that are slowly disappearing or music styles that are slowly disappearing. I also like to see how people blend ancient music styles with modern. You don’t see much of that nowadays because in places like Africa, sorry to generalize the continent, things like autotune are becoming way too widespread, Another complaint I have about modern music. Admittedly there are times when autotune could sound really cool, but right now it is extremely overused, And what were once distinctive music styles are now turning into a giant soup Bowl of blah with bad lyrics on the side. I like the older stuff a lot better.I like world music especially from older times because it’s lets me see in some cases cultures that are slowly disappearing or music styles that are slowly disappearing. I also like to see how people blend ancient music styles with modern. You don’t see much of that nowadays because in places like Africa, sorry to generalize the continent, things like autotune are becoming way too widespread, Another complaint I have about modern music. Admittedly there are times when autotune could sound really cool, but right now it is extremely overused. Best laptop that is fully accessible and will last for 6 years!
Best laptop that is fully accessible and will last for 6 years! No extra bloatware, no budget considerations. It must be fully capable. It must be an ultra book. I am going to use it in a law school at a small desk. It must be the best. I could have found this online but I want other screen reader users to provide input. Thank you all for the help, I know you all have different experiences and I hope to here them all. About 13 inches but perhaps not bigger than that. Have a good one and go wild!! Re: Why I like old music discussion
Re: Why I like old music discussion On my phone, you won't find anything by Lady Gaga or today's modern artists. You'll find Hay Jude by The Beatles, and a bunch of film soundtracks. Regarding old music, yes, it's just better. The melodies, the lyrical content, the instrumentation, the arrangement, it just seems... better. I don't really know how to explain it.What sorts of stuff have you been listening to lately? Feel free to link via YouTube and such. Re: Creating an audio game using Sable (video 5), by Ebon Sky Studios hi Everyone,We have a favour to ask of all of you who have shown an interest in the project. We have entered Sable into a competition, winning this would be huge for the progression of Sable and would allow us to expand and add so much more to Sable.
