RE: CF MX 6.1 - zipping files

2009-12-16 Thread DURETTE, STEVEN J (ATTASIAIT)

If CF is on a Windows box and you have access to cfexecute, Windows
servers come with a built in command line version of Zip.

If you can get to a command prompt just type zip /? And you should get
the available commands.

Then cfexecute what you need to.

I don't think Java can get to Access without ODBC. The native JDBC driver
actually connects to the ODBC service to connect to access, I think.

I don't think the JDBC driver included with Coldfusion is actually a Type IV
driver, it's only a type 2 driver or something like that, so it requires
some native code to get to Access - in this case, the ODBC service.

I don't know if I'm right or not, because I haven't used Access in YEARS
(it's not suitable for web apps, IMO)

There is a pure java Type IV driver available from this company:

http://hxtt-access.hongxin-technology-trade-ltd.qarchive.org/

don't know anything about it really though, other than I'd seen it before.

Are you using the Access w/Unicode driver? That doesn't rely on the ODBC
services. The regular Microsoft Access driver does, in fact, rely on ODBC.

Has anyone else experienced this scenario on CF and DB/2? Is there a
way to automatically restart the ODBC server when this happens. Or is
there another solution to resolve this issue? Even verifying the

I'm a little confused why'd you'd be using the ODBC connection for this -
isn't there a Native (type 4) driver available from IBM? The same driver
available for WebSphere should work just fine with CF and you'll get a lot
more support from IBM.

Also note that in general you'll get better support from IBM sticking with a
Java platform that with .NET.

In general I would focus on getting ODBC out of the picture - that's
probably 90% of your problem.

There is a generic DB/2 driver available in the CF admin but we can't seem to
make a connection with it, we get a connection refused error message. Is the

occasionally get the following error Error Executing Database
Query.[Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][IBM][iSeries
Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=10054 - CWBCO1047
- The iSeries server application disconnected the connection

Have you tried checking the 'Maintain Connections' check box for this data
source in the CF Administrator?

I believe the CF7 drivers are from DataDirect. Have you tried their support
forums for help with your error message?

We have CFMX 6.1 running against DB2 on z/OS using IBM's JDBC Type 2 drivers
(mandated by our DB2 folks). It took some doing with lots of help from IBM to
get them working, but the DB2 JDBC Type 4 drivers supplied with CF worked right
out of the box.

RE: CF MX 7 and DB2 connection timeout

2006-03-03 Thread Dawson, Michael
If one exists, you should use a JDBC driver for the DB2 database. We
have a JDBC driver for our AS400/DB2 and it has worked w/o any problems.

Also, who is to say that CF is at fault? I have seen the AS400/DB2
connection go down for many reasons, and they were never the fault of
CF. Chances are that you switch to .Net and you could have the exact
same problems.

In the log files this is always preceded by the following error message
Error,jrpp-1375,03/02/06,19:01:00,PSEA,Error Executing
Database Query.Timed out trying to establish connection This message
happens 1-4 times and then the ODBC driver is unavailable until I
restart the CF ODBC Server.
Has anyone else experienced this scenario on CF and DB/2? Is there a
way to automatically restart the ODBC server when this happens. Or is
there another solution to resolve this issue? Even verifying the
datasource in CF admin fixes it. It seems to be that CF stops trying if
it gets the timeout message until the ODBC connection is refreshed?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: CF MX 6.1 and odd caching

2005-12-21 Thread Phill B
I still have a problem with caching. I don't have any caching turned
on in CF. I'm not behind a proxy server so I'm not seeing cached error
pages. I've made sure my browser isn't caching the error pages. Now I
can't think of any else to try.

Is there a no cache tag in CF that would prevent it from caching
files? Is there a tag to empty the cache? Is there a virtual brick I
could chuck at CF so it will know just how pissed off I am with it?

UGH!!!

Check your CFMX Administrator and make sure the Use Trusted Cache
option is not selected. When it's selected, the CF engine will not
check the file timestamps for an updated file.

If you mean can you write CFML code, save the file as .php, and have CF
execute it, then yes you can. If you mean can the CF server read and process
PHP code written in files with a .php extension, then the answer is of
course not.

I think the reason he wants to get CF to process a file with a .php

My advice would be to decompile the swf and change the file it's pointing to

Yes I noticed this as well. The numbers never add up and the sum of the
parts is almost always *vastly* higher than the total given at the bottom.
Many times the sum adds up to a number so completely wrong it's laughable.
I'm now looking at a page than executed in about 1.5 seconds and the sum of
the reported times is 27 seconds...

Re: CF MX 7 and execution time

2005-09-30 Thread Bryan Stevenson
Yes I noticed this as well. The numbers never add up and the sum of the
parts is almost always *vastly* higher than the total given at the bottom.
Many times the sum adds up to a number so completely wrong it's laughable.
I'm now looking at a page than executed in about 1.5 seconds and the sum
 of
the reported times is 27 seconds...

hmmm...mine hasn't been that bad ;-)

The big question for ya Steve is...do you think it took 1.5 or 27 seconds?
(I kinda think the individual template times are wrong)

RE: CF MX 7 and execution time

2005-09-30 Thread Steve Brownlee
Well, I don't know of any code that runs for 27 seconds here and I've been
working on this all day, so I'm going to with 1.5 seconds is actual execution
time :)

Another thing I've noticed is this kind of output...

Total | Avg. |Times | Template
==
16 ms | 0 ms | 91 | C:\_EP\...\...\...

The math just doesn't add up. If the average exection time is 0 ms then how
is the total 16 ms? I'm guessing that the output rounds down instead of up.

I know the URL above have unix in it, but it really points to

Re: CF MX Quiet Install Procedures

2005-07-23 Thread TalkingTree.com
Graham,

Frankly, I can't recall if that silent install procedure will add the
ODBC services or not, but I can tell you that if the reason you want to
install them is so that you can connect to MS Access, then you can
actually just use the Microsoft Access with Unicode driver from the
drop down list which does not require the extra ODBC services at all.
The MS Access/Unicode driver, a.k.a. Jadazoom, is type IV JDBC and
connects directly to MS Access.

For all other databases, use the appropriate JDBC driver from the list,
which again does not require the ODBC services.

Re: cf mx exception error messages

2005-07-08 Thread Barney Boisvert
CF sometimes gets a little weird with templates that once existed, but
no longer exist. This is by design if you have the template cache
enabled, but it can happen even with it off. Clear your cfclasses
directory (inside WEB-INF) and restart and it'll probably go away.

2005-05-10 Thread Dave Watts
Has anyone upgraded to the JVM 1.4.2_08? If so, would you
 recommend it?

I am running the default JVM included w/ MX 6.1 and are
getting JVM errors about 2-3 times a week.

The latest JVM I've been able to use without any problems whatsoever is
1.4.2_05. I've had problems with newer versions and CFLDAP. You might look
at your JVM configuration also.

I figured I should update the JVM

What do you think?

Also, my error log is huge (2GB) and I can't delete b/c it is locked. I was
going to restart the service and delete the file... Seems the error log does
not conform to the log settings max...

RE: CF MX 7 stopping IIS 5.0 service

2005-03-04 Thread Tom Jordahl
Installation support is free from what I understand. Obviously I don't call
our support much.

You do need to back up your CFMX 7 CFIDE directory before uninstalling CFMX
6/6.1. We would have to 'fix' the CFMX 6 installer, which we can't do.

To answwer your question: Both cold fusion administrators point to the same

Hmm, I would assume it would be smart enough to leave those alone... But,
 if
it were me, I would copy them to a safe place, do the uninstall and if
necessary, copy the CFIDE folder back. Actually, you might want to take a
close look as you should have two CF administrators and I wonder where the
 second one truly is.

Subject: CF MX 7 stopping IIS 5.0 service

I've installed CF MX 7 on a W2K SP4 Advanced Server. The installation was
 an
upgrade from MX 6.1. Everything seems to be running smoothly, except for
 one
thing: after about 10-15 minutes CFMX 7 will kill IIS 5.0. I then will go
into the services and re-start IIS and things will appear fine for a
 little
while, then I'll go back a little later and IIS will be shut down again. I
checked my Event Log and noticed the following:

 Event Type: Error
Event Source: ColdFusion MX Application Server
 Event Category: None
 Event ID: 263

 Description:
The ColdFusion MX Application Server service killed process with pid 704.

I wondered if anybody had any thoughts about this.

Another thing I've noticed is that installing CFMX 7 does not seem to have
gotten rid of CFMX 6.1. In my services panel, I still have two sets of
services, one for 6.1 and one for 7. I've gone ahead and disabled the 6.1
services, but wondered if it was normal that both would appear there.

Thanks for any thoughts or feedback.

Hmm, I would assume it would be smart enough to leave those alone... But, if
it were me, I would copy them to a safe place, do the uninstall and if
necessary, copy the CFIDE folder back. Actually, you might want to take a
close look as you should have two CF administrators and I wonder where the
second one truly is.

Ok, how do you uninstall cfmx 6.1 without removing your cfide folders in
your root web?

The last time I tried that it removed my cfide and cfdocs folders .
Although it named the old ones cfide_old.

Having both versions side by side is normal and by design. You need to
uninstall 6.1 if you no longer need it. The catch is you can only have
 one
on port 80 which could explain why IIS is getting killed.

RANT ON
I have never called in to Macromedia for support and I have used their
products since CF 3.x. We currently own 5 copies of standard with their
subscription and DEVNET. I called in to get support on how to uninstall CF
6.1mx now that I have upgraded to CF MX 7 and I get you have to pay for
support.

You know with customer support like that it makes me re-think using Cold
Fusion in the future.

To answwer your question: Both cold fusion administrators point to the same
cfide. I notice when I uninstall they remove data sources too. Is there
anyway I can remove CF MX 6.1 without removing the data sources?

RE: CF MX and CF 5 accessing the same client database storage for one big application.

2005-02-26 Thread Dave Watts
But I use variables within the clientdb that tells me if the
user is logged in and what permissions they have. Plus keep
track of how long they've been idle, so we can log them off,
but not lose any of the data they were working on.

Unfortunately, there aren't any especially good solutions for your problem
that I can see. I think I would avoid client variables entirely in your
case, and just write code that uses a common database of your own design and
stores appropriate data within the Session scope. Or, just use all one
version of CF instead of two.

I understand the two database scheme, but both databases have to know

CF MX 6.1 machine where the APPLICATION NAME will be the same as the one
running CF 5. I also have domain cookies set so the CFID and CFTOKEN
variables can be viewed from all servers.

The problem I am running into is CF 5 expects the client variables to be
in UPPER CASE coming out of the database, but CF 6.1 is able to read the
upper case, but when it writes out the changes to the client variables
it LOWER CASES all variables in the database. Therefore, when the user
makes it back over to the CF 5 machines they lose all their client
 variables.

Don't use the same tables for CFMX and CF5/CF4.x/etc.

I opened bug 37574 in 2002 for this and a CF Engineer closed it as a
non-issue, i.e. don't do that.

My description was:

Client management CDATA and CGLOBAL tables are written to with
different styles and conflict when shared by CF5 and Neo. When CF5 and
Neo are running the same application concurrently and when using the
same shared CDATA and CGLOBAL tables in a dsn, Neo will always overwrite
the CF5 CDATA.data column and the CGLOBAL.data column. CF5 will always
add its own entries to both of these fields IN ADDITION to those already
there from Neo, where Neo had lowercase name value pairs and CF5 added
uppercase name value pairs. Interestingly, sometimes Neo inserts the
value of CFTOKEN without the name/value pair format where it omits the
name but writes the data. For example the CDATA.data field might start
with =12345678#foo=bar# where the the =12345678 is missing the left side.

Not knowing what your query is doing and also not knowing what the original
query result set is and its properties makes this a difficult question to
answer. Both of the links you provided seem to generate on html output so I
can't see any debug info but what I will say is that they both took around 2
seconds to complete.

I believe that the QofQ code has had extensive work done on it for MX7 and
that it derives its types for the column data in a different way from that
in MX 6.x. This in itself is a good thing although I would guess that it
introduces an overhead because of the extra data scanning that must be done
to ensure a good datatype fit on a per column basis...

It would follow that the overhead will increase with the size of your
original recordset but at the moment all of this is conjecture on my part
because of a lack of detail regarding the question and the internals of the
new QoQ code...

RE: CF MX Performance Hit -- Amy I the first to notice? QoQ

2005-02-07 Thread Paul Vernon
Those times look like overheads to me... Out of interest, how big is your
original dataset? Do these times differ significantly if the size of the
result set changes? How wide is the result set and how many rows does it
have in general?

The next thing to ask is Is there a good solid reason why you need so
many QoQ's in a single execution? Can you not do the same work using the
underlying DBs SQL. What DB are you running against?

What exactly are the QoQ's doing?

Johnny 5 needs more input!

LOL, i found out what it was.

You can specify 'columntypelist' in the queryNew function. Its
optional, but not specifying any data type put a significant increase
in load time.

Yes- always specifying types is definitely a best practice. I haven't
noticed any QoQ performance degradation in CFMX 7 at all... and I've
been doing a lot of building the queries from scratch in my testing.

I was wondering if anyone out there is using CF MX6.1 release on any Red Hat
version while depending on Verity to provide indexing of their files?

I've read various contradictions on this list and via Macromedia's website
about support for Verity under Red Hat Linux.

Here's what I need to do:

 1. Index recursive collection of files - two seperate collections for two
 seperate directories.
I developed a java spidering routine that collects links to be indexed then we
cfhttp to get the
pages and strip out the tags and put the resulting text into a database table.
We then use the table
to create the index.

 2. Index the small, but soon to grow PDF files.
The version of Verity that comes with MX will index PDFs up to a certain
version of PDF but not the
most recent stuff. We use a product called 'pdftotext' that is part of the xpdf
product from
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/home.html. We get the text from the pdf and then
put it into the table
that we use for indexing.

I tried #1, and Verity created a 500k log sysinfo.log file full of complaints.

As for the PDF part anyone using Red Hat and Verity to successfully index
 their PDFs?

I've created a database generated collection with this configuration and it
works fine. Thus the confusion when coupled with contradicting messages out
 here.

RE: CF MX Problem

2004-09-09 Thread Dave Watts
I am wondering if there could be some difference between the
way CF MX and CF MX 6.1 function that could be preventing the
creating of PDF documents? It will take some doing to get the
actual CF server install disk (which appears to be my only
way to upgrade to CF MX 6.1) and I would rather avoid the
hassle if I do not have to go through it.

Yes, I believe that CFMX 6.1 comes with a newer version of JIntegra, which
is the COM library used by CFMX. I wouldn't be surprised if some things no
longer work correctly, although I don't know about ActivePDF specifically.

In addition, there may conceivably be some permissions issues, although I
suspect this isn't your problem. Perhaps, though, the previous install of
CFMX 6.0 ran as a user with rights to those COM objects, and CFMX 6.1 is
running as a different user.

It would probably also be useful to find exactly where the error occurs.

Re: cf mx and oracle 8i

Steff,

You need to use to_date as this is used by Oracle to convert your date
from a string into the correct format. Have you tried the re-ordering
I suggested?

to_date('19/07/2004', 'dd/mm/')

Cheers

We need more info from you, we can only guess at the moment

-Is the datetime value you are inserting between the boundaries of the datetime type you have set with Oracle? (small datetime, large datetime, etc)
- On which column does the error occur (take away cols, add cols, to your command)
- What happens when you use createODBCDate()
- What happens if you insert NULL values
- Does the error occur on the datetime part?

Etc..

RE: cf mx and oracle 8i

2004-07-20 Thread Steff
I think where is the problem, I get date values with a query. The table
valueis like 19-JUL-04. Coldfusion gives me a date like '2004-07-19
00:00:00.0' to_date can't convert. So I should certainly before insert
query, modify the date to obtain the right format.

That is right - try something like the following:

to_date('#dateformat(date_from_query,DD/MM/)#','DD/MM/')

Should work okay for you

RE: cf mx and oracle 8i

2004-07-20 Thread Micha Schopman
Well you can create a new date object using CreateDateTime, CreateODBCDateTime, after stripping out the wanted values with Left, Right and Mid.

So for DD-MM- you could do

cfset datevar = 20-07-2004
cfset tmp = createODBCDate(createDate(ListGetAt(datevar,3,-), ListGetAt(datevar,2,-), ListGetAt(datevar,1,-)))

RE: CF MX 6.1 ODBC problems?

2004-04-07 Thread Dave Watts
We are running MX 6.1.MX seems to run fine, but about every
 8 - 12 hours it crashes.Our site will come back with a
coldfusion datasource error after a while. The datasource
can connect to the database no problem even while the error
is occuring. The only way to fix it is to restart the mx services.

I should also mention we are runnning in distributed mode,
although I don't believe it would matter. We are also using
MS SQL for the database.Any ideas on how to solve this
 problem?Thanks.

As Joe Eugene mentioned, you'll probably want to use JDBC drivers instead of
ODBC drivers. If you choose to use the Macromedia JDBC drivers, you'll want
to download the latest version - it fixes a lot of serious problems:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/cfmx61_sqlserver_c
pu.htm (installation instructions)
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/coldfusion/drivers/3.3/macromedia_drivers
.zip (direct link to drivers)

Some of our clients have been very happy using the MS JDBC drivers instead.

Microsoft JDBC driver for SQL Server 2000:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9f1874b6-f8e1-4bd6-
947c-0fc5bf05bf71DisplayLang=en

I would strongly recommend that anyone using CFMX 6.1 with SQL Server 2000
use one of these two drivers, instead of ODBC or the JDBC driver that comes
with CFMX 6.1.

RE: CF MX/Linux/Apache/Cookie madness

2004-04-07 Thread Dave Watts
We have a prod server setup as follows:
 -Linux RedHat 9.1
 -Apache
 -CF MX 6.1 Standard

Intermittently we are having the contents of various cookies
spit out to the screen (and that screen does not display as
intended). The cookies hold queries (some empty and some
with 1 record per cookie) which have been serialized into
WDDX packets (so they can be used as cookie values).

I'm still pretty new to a Linux/Apache setup and am wondering
if mabye header info is the culprit??

Here's some header related info that was spit out along with
 the cookie
 values:
location: public.cfm?pg=reg_2 Content-Type: text/html;
 charset=UTF-8 Age: 1
 Connection: close Via: HTTP/1.1 ntl_site
 (Traffic-Server/5.2.4 [cMs f ])

It looks to me like you have some sort of proxy in between, which is
screwing up your HTTP response header and body data.

2004-04-07 Thread Bryan Stevenson
Thomas asked:

 (Traffic-Server/5.2.4 [cMs f ])

Yes we do.We stick the query in the cookie and then have to use the code below becauase we can't use CFLOCATION after setting a cookie:
!--- Send user to the next page in the registration process ---
 cfheader name=location value=public.cfm?pg=reg_2
cfheader statusCode = 302 statusText = Document Moved.

Dave Watts said:

Not that I know of Dave...where do you suggest I look? on the client? with the ISP hosting this co-located server? somewhere else?

Thanks guys
