Another option would be instead of putting the current owner's email address for privacy reasons or simply because email addresses do get changed, I keep a database offline of the owner's name and/or email address. A user clicks the VIN link and they send their email to me which I forward to the owner listed in the offline database. It'd then be up to the owner to contact the interested party. Re: [Chevelle-list] RE: VIN database idea?
Dale, I think the VIN list is a great idea. Two weeks ago at a local cruise in the guy parked next to me (1970 GTO Judge ) told me that it was his brand new then sold so his wife wouldnt get it in the divorce. Some how by the grace of god 20 year after he sold it, he found it and bought it. It was all broke down and had been in an accident. He restored it to match his pictures of it. Let me tell you this is possibly the nicest "restore" I have ever seen. Ok, back to the point. The list is a great idea and I would be willing to participate. Let me know if I can help in anyway. Ryan. Also, does anyone have a set of the rear supports for a 68 SS. I dont know what they are called for sure but they look like the upper control arms but mount in front of the differential.
RE: [Chevelle-list] rear tires
I have two possibilities on my ‘what fits what’ page (http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/tire_wheel.htm). One 72 Malibu owner has 15x8x3.75 w/245x60, a 71 Malibu owner has 15x10x3.5 w/245x60 and another 71 owner has 295x50 but failed to give wheel size. My suggestion is to find some wheels with more backspacing. You really need around 4.5" to run a 265 or 275 tire without worrying about clearance problems. RE: [Chevelle-list] Z16
Well, I guess there are two that claim to be the 'first' prototype. An old Year One catalog has an article on what they claim is the first prototype but there's no vinyl top. Year One also claims, "This car has been fully documented by Chevrolet as the original 'Tech Car' prototype, and as the first car built has many unusual features (even more unusual than most Z-16s)." At the time of the article it was owned by Floyd Garrett. Stranger yet is Terry Gunter (sp?) had (advertised) Z-16 #2 at Nashville in 2003 (http://www.chevellestuff.com/65velle/gallery/prototype_z16.jpg) complete with the Baltimore body tag - the prototypes were built at Baltimore and production models at KC. Hmmm... A claim of 201 Z-16s including 1 convertible never found. Makes one wonder if 201 was the total 'production' run or did it include any of the 3 claimed prototypes? Dale -Original Message- Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Z16 Bill L. sent us this link the other day. The write up the Z16 said it was the first of two prototypes. If you can use Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), it is even more gentle, and usually can get it in 50lb bags at SAMS or a feed store. I've seen people blast the paint off of a coke can with it. [Chevelle-list] heat/air
Can't anyone help me out here??? About 4 years ago I tore my '66 down to rebuild. When I took the heater/air conditioning cables apart I marked everything and drew a diagram how it all went back together. Well, I lost the diagram some where and now I'm stuck. The cables are marked but without the diagram it's of no use because the cables are of different lengths and need to go to certain levers and hook to certain levers on the heat/air box. My assembly manual is of no help. Can anyone help me out here? Is there a link that has a picture or can someone send me a diagram? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Below is my address if you have a diagram you can send. Thanks for any help. I'm dead in the water right now. [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! [Chevelle-list] removing paint from plastic
This is from "Team Chevelle" P._. : The interior of my 1967 has been repainted once. Most of the interior plastic pieces were repainted. My primary concern is the console because it has already been repainted once. The grain is not as pronounced as it was originally, and I am concerned that it will be noticeably less so after painting it again. Besides that, I have already run into problems repainting the metal pieces because the repainting was with enamel and not lacquer. I had paint wrinkling problems even after priming over the old finish. I am concerned that I will run into the same problem on the console, so I would like to strip it first if possible. D._. : Easy Off Oven Cleaner is what a lot of model car guys use, so it should work. You may want to use spray dye instead of paint on the plastic parts. I used dye on my plastic kick panels. The dye soaks in better and makes it look like it was molded in that color and not painted. J.S. : Conventional paint strippers used in auto paint processes will ruin most plastics. There are a few dry strippers on the market that can be used on plastics, but they may also deteriorate the integrity of the plastic. I have used Dow as well as Easy Off oven cleaners to remove paint from plastics. Both products work extremely well. Be sure to wear the latex gloves since these products are tough on the skin. Spray on an ample amount of foam and the paint tends to melt away. Use soapy hot water with a Scotch-Brite pad to get the paint completely out of the grain. Let the console air dry for at least a week and then begin the re-paint process. http://www.chevelles.com/archive/files/ezoff.html __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! RE: [Chevelle-list] Assembly manual
Tom, According to a noted restorer, the base-line of “Sport” is on the same horizontal plane as the 2nd from bottom trim strip on the tail light and 1 1/8” inboard of the body seam. See the bottom of this page http://www.chevelleinfo.com/body/emblems/emblems.htm for details. There’s nothing in the AIM that I’ve found but the source does many fine restorations and I’d go with his measurements Dale McIntosh 67 El Camino 1967 Chevelle Facts CD in progress ACES #1709/TC Gold #92 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 12:13 AM To: Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Assembly manual Hey Dale, I'm having to figure out exactly where to put the Super Sport on the rear quarter too..did you ever figure it out? thanks, tom p

RE: [Chevelle-list] camaro article - ignore
Yeah, sometime color coding is not enough, at least in telecom stuff where it's possible to have a hundred wires. Sometime it's impractical to try and have leads for an ohmmeter at each end. I've sort of wanted a tone generator for my 'work' toolbox but never had to use one enough to justify it. I never really thought about using it for car wiring. Maybe I can justify one now. :-) -Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of John Nasta Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2005 11:58 PM To: The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] camaro article - ignore Uncrunk?
