Yeah, that was kinda the story on mine. My cousin (a year older than me) bought it new in the summer of '64, then passed away Christmas of '65. His Mom and Dad (my favorite aunt and uncle) kept the car and drove it a lot. Then, along about 1989 my aunt got afraid she was gonna wreck it so it was parked under a carport with a cover on it. The took care of it but it wasn't driven... It took me 13 years of begging to get her to sell it to me. I had to promise to keep the car until she passes away... I know of two in my area now, a '68 and a '69. They've been sitting for 10 years or more, and will probably rot where they sit. I asked about the '69 and the guy said he was keeping it for his son. I asked where his son was, and he said he didn't know, he left home 5 years ago and he hasn't heard from him since. Maybe I should have offered to be adopted so I could have the car. :-))) BL

Hey Jim! My passenger side seat belt, female section, has a tear on the material that joins the bracket that bolts to the floor. Man, that's a tough one. Doing a repair on the material of a seat belt is Iffy at best. In the aviation world it isn't allowed at all, remove and replace is the only fix. Depending on how much material is left between the end piece and the tear you might be able to find someone who can stitch a patch there. An old fashioned shoe repair shop would have a heavy-duty sewing machine that can handle that kind of material. An automotive upholstery shop might have the equipment, or the ability to do some kind of splice, so the belt wouldn't be shortened any. Needless to say, the integrity of the belt is the most important issue. Yo! Jim! I just talked to a buddy of mine that runs a body shop. In Florida it's against the law to repair a seat belt. It shouldn't be a difficult job to find somebody to use the original mounting end and latch piece with new material. I expect anyone experienced with restorations could tell ya where to look. Tried Home Depot, they have trailers, but they are only available when you are renting another piece of their equipment to go ON the trailer.. I don't know anyone who owns a trailer that I could borrow from, or I would have definitely asked- Does anyone have any suggestions they can recommend? Well shucks... I would be happy to loan ya my 24' Pace trailer, but the extra miles to come to Jacksonville wouldn't make that a viable solution. I'm envious, I've got a bad case for a '56 - '61 Vette but my bride as kinda put her foot down. She points out, correctly, the garage is full and I don't wanna sell anything in there to make room. Hi Dan, Does anyone know if the 1965 corvettes had the "reverse flow" cooling system? I don't think so. I just checked the 3 references I depend on for "general stuff". The only thingmentioned about the cooling system is forthe 396 which got an "increased capacity" cooling system. I did learn that the 396 was created only because GM management had decreed that no "mid-size" car could have 400+ C.I., hence the "sleeved down" 396. Hi Everyone! Just talked to Andre... he's currently in Tampa afterattending the drag races in Gainesville, FL over the weekend. They've already been to Daytona and Orlando and are headed down to south-west Florida in a day or two. Sounds as if he's having a great time, not only going to the spring swap meet at Daytona but have visited several race car fabrication businesses and have a couple more on the schedule. It started out 24/7 but has now become a dusk todawn thing. A lot of Troopers signon for that duty, must pay pretty well! Hi André! Welcome to the Sunshine State! What part are you visiting? If you are going to be in North Florida (fat chance, I know) I'd love a chance to meet you while you are here. Governor Bush (yes, President Bush's brother) asked me to remind you to spend a lot of money while you are here. We don't have a state income tax and all those tourist dollars help uskeep itthat way! There are areas in Florida, as there are anywhere else, you should avoid. Generally speaking the "tourist areas" in Central Florida are as safe as your bedroom... unless you happen to live in a war zone then they are much safer! Stay alert, don't flash a lot of money around, and if you do find yourself in an uncomfortable situation don't hesitate to grab a policeman. The vast majority of them are super good folks and are used to dealing with tourists. Matter of fact they are good sources of information about areas you should avoid. I need to replace mine and was thinking about getting a edelbrock 4 barrel manifold and carb but not sure of the cfm to get. Any hints or suggestion would be great. [Chevelle-list] Introduction
Hi Folks! Since things have slowed down a little bit I thought I'd use the "lull" to introduce myself. I'm Mike Thompson, most folks call me "Gunner", and live in Jacksonville, Florida. The esteemed and erstwhile Clint Hooper turned me on to this list and I've been lurking for a few days, just hanging around enjoying the banter. I've got some Corvettes but the latest addition to the garage is a '64 Malibu convertible. The car has been in my family since new. It was originallybought by a cousin (he was a year older than I) in the summer of 1964 from Central Chevrolet in Atlanta. Unfortunately Bill died Christmas of 1965 from a brain tumor. His mom and dad, my favorite aunt and uncle, kept the car all these years, and my aunt drove it about 150,000 miles - but got so worried about having an accident she parked it in her carport in 1989, covered it up, and just let it sit. About2 years ago I finally talked her into selling it to me, then pretty much tore it apart, and rebuilt it. Not that I'm all that swift as a mech, Aaron Scott of South Georgia Corvette did all the serious work, engine, tranny, rear-end, brakes, gas tank... you know the drill. When i got it home from there a buddy of mine and I did the paint and what little body work needed doing, and did the interior at the same time. We did out best to match the original white, and the interior is red. It's a 283, originally a 1 BBL, now it's been bored out.030 over, little more cam, an Elelbrock4 BBL, and dressed out with some chrome. I also added some Torqthrust wheels to help out the image a little. The manual tranny is "3 on the tree" as we used to say, and the top is the "Econo-lift". Fun car and always draws some waves when I drive it. If yer ever coming to, or through, Jacksonville (maybe the next Super Bowl?) please gimme a holler.
