[Coworking] Re: Assistance is Needed

2008-10-08 Thread Allie Allie
Hello,

I'd like to suggest that you develop a marketing plan first, if you haven't
already. If you have, what this letter needs to reflect is how your idea of
coworking space fulfills a new market need. The letter below will be
unclear to anyone who isn't familiar with the concept.

[Coworking] Re: New Work City has a home!

2008-10-08 Thread Tony Bacigalupo
*Awesome.*

Well, I'm open to suggestions.

- Halloween is Friday, October 31st (expect a killer party at House 2.0, if
you're in town)
- Saturday, November 1st is the first day we officially take on the space,
but I imagine people will just be coming off the high of Halloween.
- Monday, November 3rd is our first work day in the space, but it's the day
before election day and apparently a lot of folks will be out of town.

I'm leaning towards 11/1 and figure most of us can handle two nights of
mayhem :-)

Would also be ideal for out-of-town visitors, I imagine.

Thoughts?

[Coworking] Re: Uptime Update

2008-10-08 Thread axon

And we're having our launch party/grand opening/jelly day on Thursday,
November 6. Free jelly coworking all day, with a reception starting
at 4PM, and program at 4:30. We'll have speakers (funding agency,
local and regional entrepreneurs, venture fund partners, etc.), and
more refreshment. And of course, everyone from the list is invited as
well.

Sweet!

Ping me if you'd like to check out the space on 10/31; I'll probably be
there but don't know what the exact schedule will be.

You might maybe be able to attend the grand opening party! We're still
trying to figure out the right date to do it, with Halloween and the
election in such close proximity.

Stay tuned!

[Coworking] Re: Drama at Citizen Space

2008-10-08 Thread Allie Allie
Hello,

My name is Allyson, and I'm new here, but I thought I'd comment since I used
to manage a large public housing development in the state of Rhode Island.
It sounds as though this person may have some mental disability issues.
Lots of times the police know to bring a person like this to a local
hospital to be evaluated for psychiatric care, but sometimes they can't be
bothered (lots of paperwork) so they just "shoo" them away. It might be
helpful to call the local shelter and find out if there is a state agency
you can contact for assistance - for example, a Department of Human Services
type agency that might be able to send a social worker out to talk to him.
These people are trained to deal with these illnesses, and will be able to
advise you how to dissuade him from returning AND get him some much needed
assistance (including public housing).

good luck,

Allyson

Thanks for posting these, Tara! I'm in the process of setting up

others are doing. While the government probably can't use similar
wording (unfortunately!), these common sense rules are a great
foundation for any space.

[Coworking] Re: Coworking Space Rules

2008-10-08 Thread Tara Hunt
We didn't post any rules, either...until they were needed. I would advise
putting up something because the dude who violated them told me he was
entitled to abuse the space 'cause nobody had told him differently. But we
made our rules kind of fun instead of demanding.

[Coworking] Re: Understanding Free Access

2008-10-08 Thread Matthew Wettergreen

We structured our business model to include free drop-ins. Based on
rent owed for your space, it might not work for everyone though.
Because we view ourselves as a community service we want everyone to
be able to come in and utilize our services whenever need be. This was
especially important following Ike when many people were without power
or internet.

Brian,

We don't have any posted rules at Caroline Collective. When people ask
how the space works, we explain that it is a work environment with the
expected noise from social interaction. We also point to several rooms
where conference calls can be taken without disturbing work. Common
courtesy is mostly self-enforced.
