Re: [slim] MonkeySqueeze

2011-08-09 Thread Muele

I don't think SBS was playing, but it's hard to know exactly happened. I
miss both the tools and skills to analyse it.
Probably a reboot of the pc could have solved it.

Two small things: It is really hard to find the PDF and that is crucial
in getting it to work. Try to flash it directly in the user's face. Put
it on the desktop, provide a button in the config window. Whatever
makes sense.

The other is that what you call Squeezeplayer is actually called
Squeezeplay. Squeezeplayer is an app for Android.

2011-08-09 Thread yeomanspc

Me too.
It's on the list of things that have been broken by 7.6 to go fix. I
know some people have it working ok though.

MusicIP is working fine, but no recognition of it in SBS.
I am runnning MIP headless (as specified by Spicefly sugarcube.) Not
had issues for a long time.

Sigh..
If you manage to fix, please post back the cure. I'll be taking a look
this evening and will do the same.

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread epoch1970

I have 7.6.0 And MIP running fine together. I use the SBS MIP plugin.

Perhaps you want to stop/start SBS again and see if you get the M as
expected.
Under any version of SBS this has been a problem : if MIP is not up and
running when SBS initializes, the plugin is not enabled, so no M. You
have to make sure MIP is up and running before starting SBS.

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread Michael Herger
I had 7.5 and MusicIP working fine together.
I now have no 'M' icon to the right of the track listing in the Web
 UI.

Good news: MIP very likels still is working for you too. Bad news: the UI has
changed slightly.

The M icon no longer is for MusicIP, but for More. You'd get a menu with
various options, one of which would be MusicIP. This is the same menu you
already got on Radio/Touch/Controller by pressing the + (More) button. The same
again can be found on Classic/Boom by pressing holding the play button. But
you wouldn't get the small M icon top right on those players any more.

 With best regard, Robinson.
I've seen this issue before, but it was related to the alsa hda kernel
driver.

A workaround was added to portaudio a while ago and is included in the
latest 1.1-253 release.

You must use the portaudio library from the squeezeslave svn as it
contains additional fixes that are not in pa trunk at the moment.

What svn revision are you compiling for your debug binary?

What makefile are you using? Please post the modified version.

seems to work well - apart from one small thing: When mplayer is used

all sorts of other things go wrong.

CPU is an Intel Core2 Duo P8600 @ 2.40GHz, so it shouldn't be too

Sounds like you might need a newer mplayer.sh. The one from svn is

I -thought- the way it worked was that there were 'M' icons on the left

'mixer'. At least that that's the way it worked for me, way back in the
early betas, which I had to move back away from because of scanner
issues.
BTW, it seems to have vanished from Squeeze Commander as well.

Yeoman: Thanks for the response! I thought I was causing the problem
myself somehow.

MJM: I'm not sure that bug is causing a musicIP issue. Time to find a
SQLite utility and see what's actually in the db, I guess.

BTW, restarting everything is the first thing I do.
If you have SBS running on a win server, there's a utility called
psservice that will let you do this remotely. I have a shortcut that's
-psservice \\server4 restart Squeezebox Server-

As for making sure MusicIP is running, I have the SBS service
'depending' on the MusicIP service, so the system will startup MusicIP
before starting SBS.

Re: [slim] MonkeySqueeze

2011-08-09 Thread Gingernut63

@Muele

Totally agree, what's the point of having a user guide if no one can
find it. I've been investigating ways of making the User Guide more
accessible since the initial release. The preferred idea is to use a
button on the settings page or as suggested, place on the desktop,
however what may seem to be a easy thing to fix is a little more
complicated. At present the location of the user guide is given on the
MonkeySqueeze Addon site and on the Product installation window when
running the mmip file. Will be making changes by the next release.

Realised that SqueezePlay was miss-pelt just after making the initial
release available. I only proof read the document 20 times and didn't
see it until too late. Also the link to SqueezePlay in the guide is
broken. I posted the new address on the MonkeySqueeze Help Forum:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2t=59515

Thanks again for the feedback and keep an eye out for the next release,
it's not too far away.

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread bobkoure

OK, I'm looking at the schema.
I'm -assuming- that the entry -musicmagic_mixable- is in four tables
(albums, contributors, genres, tracks) is for performance(?)
...although I find the entries in contributors and genre a bit
puzzling.

Got a GUI to recommend for SQLite? With the command line utility when I
run 'select musicmagic_mixable from tracks' (or the other 3 tables) I
get a bunch of empty lines. I'd guess that those are nulls, and so
indicate that the MusicIP phase of the scanner isn't working correctly
(also assuming that musicmagic_mixable==FALSE means 'not mixable').

Come to think of it, given that all my tracks are mixable (well, 98%)
maybe I should just alter these entries to TRUE and see what happens(?)

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread bobkoure

1) download the command line shell from
http://www.sqlite.org/download.html
2) be sure SBS is stopped
3) make a copy of squeezebox.db in the SBS cache folder
4) open the db sqlite3 squeezebox.db
5) run the following commands
UPDATE albums SET musicmagic_mixable=1;
UPDATE contributors SET musicmagic_mixable=1;
UPDATE genres SET musicmagic_mixable=1;
UPDATE tracks SET musicmagic_mixable=1;

4/5 alt)Alternately, you can do steps 4 and 5 together by running the
following from the command prompt

sqlite3 squeezebox.db UPDATE albums SET musicmagic_mixable=1; UPDATE
contributors SET musicmagic_mixable=1; UPDATE genres SET
musicmagic_mixable=1; UPDATE tracks SET musicmagic_mixable=1;

6) start sbs

This works for me. It may or may not for you. I haven't any testing
other than to run it If it doesn't, just replace your modified
squeezebox.db with the copy you made
Note that you are marking all tracks as mixable. Now, if you click the
'M' to the right of a track, and that track is not mixable, you'll get
an empty mix (I think - no way for me to test this)

I'm not sure that this is the same as bug 17358, as that one seems to
center around the importer not being invoked after a 'scan for new

I get a report of the scanner being run in my scanner log file

 [11-08-08 11:48:19.3307] Slim::Music::Import::runImporter (460)
 Starting Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Importer scan
 [11-08-08 11:53:35.8809] Slim::Music::Import::endImporter (592)
Completed Slim::Plugin::MusicMagic::Importer Scan in 316 seconds.

so I'd guess it's something else going on(?)

I hope I'm wrong as 17358's been assigned...

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android

2011-08-09 Thread flattermann

Sorry for not being around lately, but there was a lot of stuff going on
here that I needed to take care of. I was not even able to answer many
emails... :-(

I want apologize for that and explain what happened.

First, I was very busy at work (ok, nothing special about that).
Furthermore, my development server had a HDD crash (BTW: that also
crashed the Trac ticketing system).

And we recently moved to another city, that was also pretty time
consuming (I really HATE painting now!) and it cut me off the internet
for some days. At least that gave me some free time to spend with our
little baby boy. :-)

Anyway, most of these things are sorted out now.
We've finished moving to our new home (more or less), we now have a
working internet connection (it's really fast!) and I've installed a
new local server. Trac should also work again. :-)

That means that I can finally focus on SqueezeCommander again. :-)

So, stay tuned!

[slim] Forced to update?

2011-08-09 Thread slippyr4

Hi All,

I've been avoiding updating to 7.6 until many of the complaints settle
down.
However, I get home from work today and my touch is displaying a screen
about updating itself to 7.6, and I cannot see any option to cancel.

I don't want to update now, and I resent being forced. Why is it doing
this to me?

My sbs is still version 7.5.5 and my squeezebox radio is unaffected.

I don't like this squeezebox system if logitech can force my players
into updating when they want, not when I want. It's wholly
unacceptable.

Does anyone know why this is happening or know a way to cancel out of
the forced updated?

Re: [slim] My story of picking betamax...

2011-08-09 Thread TiredLegs

I originally chose Squeezebox over Sonos for a few reasons:

- I wanted the ability to run the server software on a Network Attached
Storage box and play my music without requiring my computer to be
running. At the time, Sonos didn't have that capability, although it
does now.

- Sonos did not initially offer players designed to connect to existing
stereo systems. They wanted to sell you their amplifiers and speakers
instead of leveraging what you already own. (Sonos now offers players
designed for connection to external systems, but that wasn't the case
early on.)

- I like that Squeezebox software/firmware is open source. If/when the
manufacturer stops supporting it, a few knowledgeable programmers could
keep it running, at least well enough to maintain existing
functionality, when new versions of computer operating systems come
out. Good luck keeping Sonos software alive if the company ever goes
out of business.

My Squeezebox system has been up and running for years, and I see no
reason to change systems now.

When I click On Amazon and navigated until the album is found in
Amazon.com, the second item is the Review with the # of stars this
album has, however it has been missing.

Do you get any error message in server.log?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2011-08-09 Thread bluegaspode

I cannot resist to post the following picture.

This is SqueezePlayer on a GoogleTV, yeah ...
but before one gets too enthusiastic - unfortunately it cannot stream
any songs.

Google TV is intel based, all SmartPhones use ARM processor - and
Google does not provide means to compile the native code of
SqueezePlayer on x86 *sigh*.

Anyway - this screenshot reveals at least another new enhancement
released soon - a preliminary version of a landscape mode :)

Hi Michael - No I haven't seen error message in server.log. Do I have
to enable some advanced log settings, most of them are @ Error logging
level. I don't see one specific to Amazon in plugin or elsewhere for
logging.

Thanks,
/Peter

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread yeomanspc

Thanks bobkoure. And this is a consumer product?
So I downloaded sqlite and updated the database and now a mip option
appears, but no mix is produced - either on the web interface or
through a player. But mip produces a mix if called directly
(externally to sbs). I double checked all the settings and it seems
configured correctly. stopped / restarted sbs and system several
times. Now it's only finding 5 of the 12 players connected.
I give up. 7.5 worked, I'm going back (so long as it will let me..).
Thanks for your help.

Good to see you back.

I just files a bug report for the renaming of flac files to flc when
downloading. None of the players actually recognize .flc files, or at
least the ones I use anyway.

Re: [slim] 7.6 and MusicIP not working

2011-08-09 Thread bobkoure

For me, at least, a mix is produced, but it isn't displayed in the left
window. Instead, there's a title: -Home [track you mixed on] MusicIP
Mix-. Beneath that is -All Songs-. If you hover over this, you get the
symbols for play/add/remove.
I'm not sure if not showing all the individual tracks in the MusicIP
mix is a bug; I think it is, and was going to start a thread around
that issue.

I have no idea what the issue with not finding multiple players is all
about. I have only classic players (and squezeslave) and they all got
found. You'll probably get better results either starting a separate
topic or posting in the '7.6 issues' thread.
You should have no problem re-installing 7.5. I tried the 7.6 betas
repeatedly, and went back to 7.5 each time. No problems. Just remember
that you need to uninstall 7.6 (no 'upgrading' to an earlier version)

FreeBSD's own make isn't the same:

I've recently switched to 7.6.1, and (after a bit) got MusicIP working

I don't see it anywhere in SqueezeCommander, but maybe I've just

Re: [slim] The 7.6.x lingering issues thread

2011-08-09 Thread Nick_G

I forgot to mention that my recent problems were caused by Logitech's
servers playing up. The mysqueezebox.com page was either very slow or
often came up with a 'Bad Gateway' error when trying to load using a
web browser. Thankfully everything was back to normal by Monday
morning.

Re: [slim] Performance of SQLite and large databases

No, I did not test with a 65,000 track library. The library had 260,000

I see results similar to yours when the library is small.

Do you use any customized settings in your MySQL instance besides those
in the High Database Memory Config ?
If so, could you share them ?

Which MySQL version are you using ?
I'm using MySQL 5.0.21.

I just tried with a 250 000 track library (with 7.6.1 r33004) and
SQLite took about 4 hours for a full scan in my environment, MySQL is
in progress but about 6 hours after it has started it has still just
reached 100 000 out of 250 000 tracks, so it's clearly slower than
SQLite also in a large library in my setup.

Maybe it's just Linux vs Windows but it feels a bit strange that we get
such opposite results if it's just the operating system that differs.

Maybe it could be the CPU ?
My virtual machine only have access to one of the CPU cores and I'm
guessing you have a multi core CPU which probably is an advantage with
MySQL both since it runs in a separate process and also because it's
probably more optimized for usage with a multi core CPU than SQLite.

If our MySQL configuration is the same, maybe I'll try to run the 250
000 library directly on the laptop with a Core2Duo P8400 CPU to see if
I see the same thing in a non virtual environment with a dual core
CPU.

Besides Linux I have also have a Windows Vista installation on the
laptop so I could try how it looks in both Ubuntu and Vista on the same
hardware but I'm not sure that's worth anything as I think Windows Vista
is generally considered to be a lot slower than both XP and Windows 7
which it's probably more likely that people using Windows are using.
