Re: [slim] Long term SB3 user: very happy!
I have to concur with the sentiments expressed here, and add some of my own. By way of background, I suspect that I am one of the more mature (chronologically anyway) members of this forum, because when I first became interesetd in hi fi it was actually called hi fi! Obviously one major leap with respect to listening to music through these devices is the accessibility of the material. These old eyes are not as good at reading the CD spines anymore, and finding and replacing cd's on the shelf was really a chore. The result was that a few favorites got put in the changer, and that was it for a few months. Now, like everyone on here, I have play lists of several hundred songs, new, old, and from every genre. The real improvement for me,though, is the SOUND. My wife and I have a music collection going back to the British Invasion, and before that if you throw in the jazz, and everything sounds like it was recorded last Tuesday.I hear instrumentation that I never knew was there on songs I've listened to thousands of times, and it has given me a whole new appreciation for the harmonics and production work on these albums (What DO you call an album these days?. Listening to music is more fun then ever, and as result, the music is always playing in our house, and that's the whole point, right? My personal experience with set up and operation of the SB3 and the Duet devices has been pretty much glitch free, and any issues or questions I've had have been resolved by reading these forums. Please keep up the good work, and happy holidays to all. -- Fahzz Fahzz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55749 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Router Reset and SB3/suspend time
Follow up: This might be elementary to some of you, but maybe I can save some time for somebody trying to do a reset of an SB3. I couldn't get past the choose language screen and tried several factory resets (pull the plug, replace plug while pushing + sign) That didn't help, so did a Xilinx reset (pull the plug, replace plug while pushing #1). That got me off square one and to the network password screen. Put in the password using the IR remote about twenty times, but couldn't get the SB3 to be recognized by the network. Some might remember what a challenge entering the network password is with the IR remote. Well it still is! But this forum and the Wiki are also valuable tools. It occurred to me that something was amiss with the way I was entering the password, and I did come across something about tailing spaces, which was the cause of my troubles. The IR remote is tricky to use for this and it (meaning I) kept unintentionally inserting blank spaces at the end of the password which was causing the non recognition issue. You have to be very careful to push the right arrow to enter it at the exact end of your password. If you haven't had to do this in a long time, it's easy to miss, because the error is not readily apparent. Hope this helps. -- Fahzz Living Room: Duet, Adcom GFA 545II, Adcom GFP 555II, Polk SDA 2B Dining Room: Paradigm Atom Monitor v.5 Bedroom: SB3, Pioneer VSX 5700S,Pinnacle PN 5+, MK VX-7 Subwoofer Router: Linksys WRT54G Server: Acer Aspire Laptop, Windows XP Home Fahzz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80598 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Car stereo
If this is too off topic i apologize in advance, but I'm hoping someone here can give me a credible answer. I have a brand new vehicle (Yay!). The audio head unit will accept a USB drive, and I now have 64 gigs of Mp3's on random play, which is kind of like having Radio Paradise in my car. The Mp3's are from various sources, and I notice a significant volume difference between tracks, notwithstanding setting replay gain as album using Foobar 3000. Does anybody know if car stereos read replay gain tags? The members on the car audio forums don't seem to know about replay gain. The car is an Acura with a base Panasonic audio system. Thanks. [slim] Dead SB3 - Now back in business
First thanks to everybody in the forum for their usual kind assistance. My SB3 classic was showing no signs of life. At the beginning the remote didn't work anymore, and then the unit itself crapped out. Seems I'm not the only one, judging by the many dead SB3/Classic posts I've read. Those posts suggest two remedies = loose wireless card or bad power supply. I opened the unit up, and the wireless card seemed to be rock solid. So I ordered a new power unit from ebay and sure enough the lights are back on. I bought it from hotdog...@aol.com, because the PSU was Logitech branded, and they sell a lot of Logitech peripherals. I couldn't convince myself that the problem was the power unit, because the red light was on inside the SB3, but what do I know? Anyway mission accomplished, and thought I'd share. Happy listening! Re: [slim] Smart people will stay with Squeezebox
Thanks for the response. Not sure if my SB3 still works. It went down two days before Christmas, maybe due to a Windows 10 update, maybe something else. I didn't have the time or the will to troubleshoot it. I always wanted to get away from a separate server for a lot of reasons (updates being one)and I thought the Node 2 might do that, but when I got it, I found out that the direct USB function was limited, and they suggested that I connect the drive to my router instead. That also was problematic, and Bluesound support is only available when I'm working. Again time and will ran out. It's expensive, but I would have kept the Node if it worked out of the box, but it didn't. I know that patience can be eventually rewarded by Squeezeboxen, so I may try and get the SB3 back on line, or buy something preassembled, or go the DIY route. Not sure yet.
