Re: [Elecraft] Using Voice Files along with Mike Input on a K3
I ran into this as well. It was a bit tricky but here is what worked: Writelog as DVK Cable from headphone out of soundboard to the line in jack on back of K3 Now the tricky part: Select LINE IN as input first! Then set the gain as you would a mike gain, otherwise the K3 sees zero input from the line in! Select mike Front panel, go to next menu option and select Mike + line It worked great! There was other issues with the K3 but probably because it is an infant.. a new PA is on the way (bummer) 73, Dave NT6AA ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Using Voice Files along with Mike Input on a K3
I tried to use a K3 in the IOTA contest on SSB but ran into a problem. I couldn't figure out how to satisfactory key the K3 with wave files from N1MM Logger and also use a Heil Headset. Reading the manual it appears that you can have audio input from ONLY the front panel, rear panel, OR line in. The wave files were coming via the line in and the mike via the Front panel. Did I over look something? A fellow team member and I considered paralleling the mike and sound card input but we didn't want a live mike while wave files were playing. The Elecraft web site says that their digital voice recorder (KDVR3) is not yet shipping. For now, does this mean that that I have to use my MFJ voice keyer (configured for a Kenwood radio) if I want audio files AND mike capabilities? When using a K3, how are others handling SSB contests? 73, Ed K3IXD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. This fix applies only audio from microphones connected to the microKEYER II (RF into the mic preamp in microKEYER II) and makes no difference with audio generated in the microKEYER II "soundcard." If you are going to do PSK31 (or any audio based digital mode) you must use AFSK A or DATA A. AFSK A is nominally LSB with center frequency equal to (MARK+SPACE)/2. DATA A is nominally USB with center frequency equal to 1500 Hz. Typical operating conditions for PSK1 and AFSK in AFSK A or DATA A would have the Lin In level of the K3 at 10 and the TX output of microKEYER adjusted to give five bars on the K3 ALC meter. 73, ... RE: [Elecraft] Sidetone Monitor Preference Opinions
I don't disagree at all Drew. I would fancy having the RIT / XIT knob operate as a CW Pitch control so one knob could vary all required parameters in real time. Until that day comes, I'm thinking I can get most of the functionality using 2 knobs (RIT & Shift). [Elecraft] K3 6m pre-amp
To enhance the 6 meter performance of my K3 I built the U310 preamplifier as described on N6CA's website: http://www.ham-radio.com/n6ca/50MHz/50appnotes/U310.html Tuned up on an HP8970A noise figure meter it gives 11.2 dB gain and NF=1.3 dB. The receiver's performance on weak signals was significantly improved. I already had the parts but cost should not exceed $30.00 to duplicate this preamphard to beat. I have not done measurements on the radio/preamp combination to determine any negative effect on the receiver performance but the K3, which always performed well in the presence of strong signals, continues to do so. Or perhaps signal pitch could be made an additional option for the RIT/XIT control when RIT/XIT is off? (RIT is already an optional coarse tune control and has also been suggested as an optional band switch.) For sidetone pitch adjustment, perhaps MON could allow it with a 2nd push? Re: [Elecraft] Help with PSK
Tom, You have to use DATA A with a soundcard program such as HRD or MultiPSK. Here is what I do: Turn off Tx ALC in menu. I use VOX instead of the PTT line. Adjust VOX and ANTIVOX as needed. Adjust LINE IN and audio output from soundcard so that you get the power output that you want to use (no more than 50 watts with the 100 watt K3). Use the K3's power meter to adjust. With my HT OMEGA Claro+ soundcard, I use a LINE setting of 3 and a low output on my soundcard (about 1/3 from full output). It doesn't take much. Of course you will see no ALC reading, because it is turned off. The K3 will automatically go into Tx when it detects audio input... why use PTT if your don't have to. Use 1500Hz center frequency with software, and adjust bandwidth as needed. You can go as low as 50Hz with PSK31. Re: [Elecraft] Sidetone Monitor Preference Opinions
Yes, PITCH would seem like a good choice for the signal pitch adjustment. Then you'd have sidetone pitch and volume with a single control. Makes sense? 73, Drew AF2Z On Mon, 28 Jul 2008 22:50:48 -0400, Steve Ellington wrote: >How about eliminating the tone when pushing either "pitch" or "mon" and only >producint the tone when pushing "spot"? Re: [Elecraft] Help with PSK
Tom, For now, the only way to run PSK-D is with the paddles connected to the paddle input on the K3, or using a terminal, such as the one on the K3 Utility program. If you are using soundcard software for PSK you need to HOLD DATA MD (AFX button) and select DATA-A using the VFO B knob. Do that and set up your output per the K3 Operating Tips page and you should be good to go. When in Data mode the CMP is automatically clamped down a zero. - 73, Greg - AB7R Whidbey Island WA NA-065 On Tue Jul 29 4:35 , Tom Wylie sent: >I am trying (and failing miserably) to set up my K3 to work PSK31 mode. > >I am using a Microham USB Microkeyer II and my normal Logger 32 software >which I have used for aged with my MP running very fb. > >The outgoing tones from my K3 dont "sound right" and a near neighbour >says my signal is very bad >unreadable and very broad. > >In the K3, I have the compression set to 0 the mike gain set to 0. [Elecraft] K3: BW direction?
OK...my 2 cents. I just looked at the Yaseu 2000 instruction manual on line. To narrow the bandwidth, you turn the knob counter-clockwise (and vice versa). Some Kenwood radios (eg, TS940) have a VBT control (variable bandwidth tuning). Turning the knob counter-clockwise makes the BW narrower - and that radio is 20 years old, so this is far from something new. So the K3 seems fine to me! de Doug KR2Q ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] [K2] KSB2 filter: unequal terminations - why?
Hello, this is not a problem but simply a mystery for me. After having successfully finished my K2-#5776 (Gary and Scott, thanks a lot for your fast help!), I built up the KSB2 board - it works basically fine. However, when I studied the diagram of the KSB2 and the RF board, I stumbled over the fact that T1 and T2 on the KSB2 have very different turns ratios (7:22 vs. 22:4). Because the ladder filter is symmetric, it requires the same termination on both sides (here, ~1500 Ohms). Coming from a source impedance of 150 Ohms, T1 is duly transforming it to 1500 Ohms. However, at the filter output, T2 transforms the 1500 Ohms down to only 50 Ohms. (BTW, this down-transformation could very well be the reason for the unusually high insertion loss of >7db as listed in the "SSBCAPKT" document. I measured abt. 3db with an external setup, using the original xtals, caps, and FT37-43 transformers with identical turns ratios). So far so good - but this is NOT looking into 50 Ohms on the RF board (T7) as one would expect. T7 has a turns ratio of 5:20. Looking backwards from the input of the IF amp MC1350 with an input impedance of ~3000 Ohms (according to the datasheet), this generates an impedance of over 180 Ohms at the 1&2 terminals of T7 - a significant mismatch for the filter. Does anybody have a clue what the reason for this arrangement is? Because of time constraints, I could not yet take RF measurements of the filter/IF path (I dont't trust Spectrogram measurements - too many unknown variables :-)) ) . 73, Horst, dj6ev P.S. I am not using the original 7-pole filter but a homebrew 8-pole ladder on a tiny subboard with SMD caps. The transformers are on BN43-2402 cores instead of FT37-43, with identical ratios on both sides (6:17 / 17:6 turns - because of lower xtal inductances / filter impedance of approx. 1200 Ohms). Works nicely on the KSB2. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/-K2--KSB2-filter%3A-unequal-terminations---why--tp588100p588100.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
