[Elecraft] K3 AF line out to mic attenuation
Hello, I want to connect K3 audio line out to a Toshiba laptop which only has a 3.5 mic socket for audio in. Does anyone have recommendations for attenuation/impedance matching? I have a CP1 dual directional coupler kit. Debating whether to make it -20dB or -30dB. Re: [Elecraft] K3 dse error after installing DVR
I had the same problem after installing the digital voice recorder. I managed to get the rig going again, after firmware reload, which was a major headache in itself, refusing to load or recognise presence of DSP firmware. The problem has since recurred, then mysteriously went away. I wonder if there is some instabilty in the formware for DSE or DVR that needs to be fixed? When the fault occurs, all audio is lost and moving rotary controls results in clicks. Very interested to hear from anyone esle who has had this problem, as it has been most frustrating, I was at the point of packing the rig and shipping back from Australia to US for repair. [Elecraft] {Spam?} P3 display "expansion" when tuning K3
Hi there, When tuning the K3 the dynamic range of signals and noise on the P3 display expands considerably when I turn either the main tuning knob or fast tune via the CLR knob. It settles back as soon as the knob is not moving. (The scale grid doesn't change). I find it rather disconcerting, as the "expansion" makes the original spectrum pattern hard to recognise. Of course you can just QSY without this effect using the markers, but often I prefer to listen for anything in between as I tune to a signal of interest. Is this behaviour normal, or do I have a bug? Also getting the problem of the bandpass marker appearing as USB when on LSB. Is this being fixed in the new beta? Thanks for any info from the forum. [Elecraft] K3 SSB TX issues
Hello there from VK2, K3#685 is going, however I could do with advice on certain matters. The set is basic 10W with no options and 5 pole 2.7KHz only, in filter slot 3. Receive is excellent, or should I say, outstanding. All controls and menus seem to function correctly. DC supply is big set of batteries. Around 12 -13V. Questions: 1. What mike settings should be used with mikes MH2, MD2 and pro-set (I have all 3). Presume they should all have bias on, but does L/H refer to mike impedance or hi/low mic gain? Asking because in an on-air test, listeners reported severe audio distortion. 2. What does the monitor level setting actually do? It does not seem to vary the audio level much? Distortion was also heard while self monitoring. 3. I have HL-200BDx amp, any problem with connecting key out to ACC2 amp input with RCA cable? eg could an earth loop or a short be created? 4. After trying various configs/menu settings, distortion on monitor seems to have gone, though audio sounds a bit electronic. [Elecraft] query on power readout
Hello there from VK, I am investigating severe loss of TX power on my K2. With 5W set, I get almost no power, the RF detector input measured with the RF probe/DMM shows 0.009V. however, the display reads approx. 5W out. The reading on pin 2 of U8 on control board is 0.55V. This would suggest to me that U8 is trying to deliver maximum power, which is what it ought to do if only 0.009V is seen at the detector. All detector components seem to be OK. What I don't understand is how the LCD is reading 5W on transmit. Other TX RF measurements (with SSB board still installed, rig set on CW mode) Q6 base = 0.021V Q6 collector = 0.88V Q7 base = 0.089V Q8 base = 0.108V (would have expected Q7 & 8 to be the same) Receive and menu functions all appear normal. [Elecraft] K3 keying/vox for digi
Hi Thanks for all the replies. I did not wish to explain why I do not want to use VOX for keying digi from the right channel tone. But as another has explained, the VOX setting needs to be different for Digi and phone, and I found it annoying having to fiddle through the menu after changing modes, and then there is the antivox also. Or remembering to turn it off, the risk of me transmitting some curse or other is too great!. VOX is a nice feature for some but I would rather do without it. Its a personal thing, not a technical issue. I only ever use it for heavy contesting, where both hands need to be free. [Elecraft] erratic vfo
Hi Pete and the forum I have been having exactly the same problem. While rotating the VFO, it will suddenly jump to another frequency or band, usually this seems to be nearer the band edges. There is a relay click when there ought not to be one, then further on the 'jump' happens. I have been advised to use de-oxit spray on the front panel to motherboard pins, that did not work. The next advice from elecraft support was to replace the motherboard male pins with gold plated pins, I did this and it seemed to be effective for a few days, but then the erratic behaviour returned, exactly the same symptoms. 200MHz is a frequently jumped to point, and when i turn off the rig and back on, it always goes to 28MHz band. I am suspecting that something in newer firmware is incompatible with the older K3's, but have no way to confirm this. I understand your frustration, I have the same sense of disappointment, and wonder what to do, I have been going back to my K2 as it is totally trouble free. [Elecraft] KX3 - Omit battery holder?
I'm presently at the stage of fitting battery holders into the KX3. I'm dubious about the amount of flexing that the holders have to take, in order to get the screws secure. This is more of a problem with the holder that sits over the square shield, as it has to bend over the shield. I rather don't like the way this is engineered. Seeing that I'm averse to internal batteries anyway, previous bad experience with portable gear, and having read the warnings of potential serious damage if something goes awry with the holder, I plan to omit the holders altogether. The question is - can I fit the holders screws threaded all the way in, so that the heads touch the board, and not suffer some shorting problem? Hi, I have installed the optional roofing filter into my KX3 #4559. The manual advises that bandwidth switches to 3000Hz when Weaver demodulation is in use on SSB. However when I reduce the RX passband to 2.4KHz, which is when Weaver is supposed to kick in, it stays on FL1, until I reach 1.7KHz. At this point, FL2 is activated, however this is so narrow that it is close to unintelligible. Is this normal, or am I missing something? Maybe using width/shift rather than Hi-lo cut doesn't activate Weaver? I would much appreciate some enlightenment as to how it all works, as I'm mainly interested in close in rejection, without having to discern which side the intrusion is coming from. [Elecraft] tight K2 bail
I had the tight bail problem, very tight, I decided that the amount of bending it would cause to the RF board was unacceptable, maybe you can get away with it, but boards are not meant to be bent?? Perhaps there are variances in the manufacture, mine was so tight you could hardly move it when fitted. I'd recommend a judicious correction. My bail adjusts nicely and doesn't bend the board and it has never fallen over. Cheers. [Elecraft] T1 working A-OK
Certainly some fiddly construction in this one, nevertheless T1 tuner is up and running last night with no problems at all, it tuned my G5RV on 80m in a flash. Please make available a transparent case so I can show off to the local hams! [Elecraft] CQ VK elecraft
Hello there from the other side of the planet, I noted Richard VK3AGQ building a K2. Are any VK hams interested in a down-under Elecraft owners group/network? Nothing too formal, just e-mail sharing so we can help each other. I'd be happy to assemble a list, or support anyone else to do this. If there is any interest, please email me. [Elecraft] P3 fixed tune - no marker
P3 Version 1.0 - I note that in fixed tune mode, there is no vertical line marker to indicate the tuned frequency, only the bandwidth marker at the bottom. Anyone know why it is absent? Its not user-friendly when tuning to a peak with a marker that is down at the bottom of the display in the noise floor. Any chance, programmers, that it might be made available? Otherwise, new firmware 1.0 is great. Also noticed a small glitch, I put the menu item fixed/tracking into function 8, and it also went into F1 to 4, overwriting what what previously there. Anyone else get something similar? Re: [Elecraft] K3 USB cable
Thanks Dick and Mark for your replies. My cable was purchased from elecraft, I will get an FDTI adaptor and see how that goes. [Elecraft] K3 audio problem
Hi I have a strange problem with my K3/100. The audio through the internal speaker is low, but comes up much stronger with any slight movement of the volume knob. Then it goes back down again, often accompanied by a brief HI-CUR warning. Also when AGC is turned off, audio is almost zero. But, with the SP3 external speaker plugged in, the problem goes away! Any insights much appreciated.
