Wow
Jenn--I'm thrilled to hear about Bones' prognosis, especially after
that heroic undertaking of yours---you could probably sleep for a week at this
point. The vet sounds a real goodie. And love your story about
Bones"performing" forthe doc.
With
all the treats and attention I know you'll be lavishing on Bones while she's

You

(good news!)

Bones and Iare back from the specialist
today. Bones has a "Caudal end plate fracture of L3 Vertebrae", and possible
pelvic fractures also, but the pelvic fracturesdid not show on x-ray (but
the vet says she is unusually tender in the hips, and feels "off" on palpation).
She said that Bones is really doing so much better than can really be expected
from this injury (she's like, best case scenario at this point), and that she
doesn't see any need to go into surgery right now, and so Bones is now on
anti-inflammatory drugs and complete bed rest for a month. If she gets worse,
then we could still end up in surgery, but this is something that could heal on
it's own. So, YEAH, good news! The vet really seemed to like her, She wanted to
see Bones walk, and so I called her out of the kennel, and Bones swayed her way
over to the doctor, and then she made a nice big circle around the room, as if
she knew exactly what the doctor wanted. The doctor said "Oh what a good little
kitty, you made such a nice circle for us, what a good girl!". Hehe, she really
is a cute little cat, you can't help but be taken in by her winning little
personality! Now, how to keep her from pacing the cage and trying to chew her
way to freedom will be the problem. She's already going NUTS in the bathroom,
and I've been told that that is too much space, and she needs to be in a 2x3
foot cage at max (just enough room for her to stretch out comfortably and fit a
litterpan and food bowls), so she cannot walk around, and is basically forced to
lay, sit or stand still for a month. I have to buy a cage, but don't have the
money til next payday, so she has a few more days of pacing the bathroom until
she's a real prisoner. The poor cat does not understand that we are trying to
SAVE her, she thinks we are intentionally locking her in alone and ignoring her.
I already feel guilty, and it hasn't even really begun yet. Hopefully, if I get
one of the open wire type of dog cages, where she can see out all sides, it will
help to calm her down and make her feel less confined than being closed behind a
solid door. I gotta get pictures for you guys so you can see her. Oh, and she
weighs 5.7 pounds.. told you she was TINY! (at least compared to my 12 to 14
pound fat-so's)

Ok, off to change litterboxes, shower, tend to
Bones, make dinner, and then get a few hours sleep. Man, getting up at 5:00am,
driving 150 miles with a meowing cat, then going to work all day and not getting
home til after 10:00pm... I'm kinda exhausted! :)

Dr Plechner Blood test - Hideyo

Yes it is the test he suggests and was sent to the lab he has listed
on his website. I called them to ask how much they charged when I got
the bill from my vet and they charge $120.00 per test. Maybe the cost
he mentions is with his fee for handling and shipping.

 Hi,
This is the lab on his website that he has listed as doing the test:

National Veterinary Diagnostic Services (N.V.D.S)
27994 Bradley Rd., Suite 1
Sun City, CA 92586
Phone: (951) 672-1494
Website: www.national-vet.com

Their cortisol was very low for both, their estrogen was
alittle high on both, their T3 and T4 was normal for both and the IgA,
IgM, IgG's were low on both.

My vet put them both on prednisilone, and Joey was on metronidazole for
his off and on diarrhea. But the most important thing was to get them
both on hypoallergenic food, so I decided to make their food because
everyone around here eats the same thing and the hypoallergenic was
just too expensive and they didn't like it. It costs me about 7 or 8
dollars a day to feed them and I haven't got it down pat yet, I'm still
working onthe supplements and figuring out how much to put in. I'm
also trying to come up with a dry food by dehydrating because I have a
few that are dry food junkies. It will probably be a good month before
they are completly off of the Fancy Feast, right now they are getting
2/3 rds my stuff to 1/3 rd FF, but until I'm sure they are getting all
of the supplements they need I can't take them completely off the FF,
my vet is reseaching but there isn't much info for cooked homemade
food, just raw :) The protocal he lists is for humans, I think my vet
talked to him and that's where she got the treatment we're following
(not positive of that though, it does say to replace the cortisol with
pred, or some other choice on his protocal sheet).

They've been on it for a while but until I can afford to retest I
really won't know how their levels are now and whether I need to adjust
the dose they are getting. With Bailey being positive we have to be
careful not to comprimise his immune system. Joey's diarrhea is much
better, and Bailey is eating better, he was starting to lose weight but
he also had stomastisis and had his teeth pulled, once that healed he
was eating good again. They have both gained alittle weight. Joey also
has mild to moderate cardiomyapathy we just found out, so we are also
going to start treatment for that shortly.

Hi - Belinda would you add Sam to the Candlelight Service, special
needs list? Sam is lost. He belonged to an older lady whose family
we know. She became sick and I found a foster home.

The foster mom accidently let Sam outside last weekend, and he hasn't
been seen since. Susan and I've been going over and passing out
flyers and looking for him in the neighborhood.

Sam is a 17 year old Siamese cat, never been outside before that I
know of. Prayers and good thoughts and vibes are appreciated.

Thanks -

Don't forget..."near water" may not be a stream or lake as would be our first assumption...but rather near a sewer drain...or inside of one (cats often like to go down there)wouldn't hurt to put your head down a few and call...or sit there with some freshly warmed tuna or fried chicken.

Keeping you both in our prayers.

RE: Sam is lost - AC

2005-06-03 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto
Oh.. poor baby, he is probably very scared - important thing is that
kids do not try to find him or chase him as they may think they are
helping but actually it will scare him more, and you don't really want
Sam to move or get scared away and go some place else where it might not
be safe. It's also helpful to put a flyer on an every single door of
every single house instead of putting some on the posts on the street -
every time I needed to look for a cat for myself or for someone, I did
that way, and it has a much better success rate than putting them on
post - then, you can make sure that they have your phone number with
them at home and they usually keep the flyer for a while that way - it's
a lot of work and it's definitely worth it - I had about 75% success
rate of finding them this way. Also, on the flyer, if they see a cat
similar to Sam, ask them to put the food out for him so that he will
stick around - and you can perhaps set a trap there once you confirm
that he is eating there - food availability is very so important for Sam
so that he will feel safe and will stay the place.

I would really like it if you can call Dr. Geri Ryan to find out about
the meditation information - some might think it's stupid, but she said
that it's very effective - I wrote down some, but I don't think I have
all the wording correctly -

Also, again please call Marta Williams if you need the 2nd opinion - she
is very very good about finding a lost animal - she can actually
sometimes, visualize exactly what path they took to get where they
arrived - sorry for being pushy - but I wanted to make sure that Sam is
OK and can be found asap - please keep us posted - I will pray.

The meditation goes like
You imagine a golden koyo (?), coming from your heart center, reaching
out into the world, searching and for Sam. Latch onto like a magnet
and guiding him safely home

She suggested you meditate as many as you can (and your friends,
too),she told me that it's amazing how well it works, and you can be
re-united with your animals most amazing way.

I just called the doctor to let me know of the missing wordings in the
meditation in case you will use it.

Kisses and hugs to Sam.

Hideyo

Just HOPING that Sam is not in the sewer - I will check on those. Lots of

 Thanks -

 Gloria

way the pred works is better than a natural steriod for now. And they
are getting a very miniscual dose 1/4ccs once a week. Even at their
highest dose it was only 5ccs a day for 4 weeks, then we lowered it to
2ccs everyday for 4 weeks, then to 1 ccs daily for 4 weeks and then
lowered it again to 1/2ccs daily for 4 weeks and then went to 1/2ccs
every 3 days for 4 weeks, and now we're at 1/2ccs once a week (just
started that this week) and if their symptoms stay good we'll probably
stay there until I get them completely switched to homemade and then get
them retested. So they have been on it for quite a while. I watch them
very closely :)

RE: FW: Sam is lost - AC

2005-06-03 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto
Gloria, she just called be back (in two minutes after I left her a message) and
I am sure that she will call you right back - but I got the rest of the
wordings - she is a wonderful person, she is an instructor at C C (??)
foundation. She is the one who recommend that I talk to Marta Williams when I
first called her.

You imagine a golden coil, coming from your heart center, reaching
out into the world, searching and probing for Sam. Latch onto like a magnet
and guiding him safely home,

The rest of the people on the list, if time allows, please read this meditation
for Sam, so that he can be re-united with Gloria ASAP (THANK YOU
---everyone!!!)

Also, in case you might find helpful at all, here's the flyer that we use when
we have missing animals -

REWARD!!
Still Looking For
Beige or Short Pale Gold Colored Kitty

We are desperately looking for a FERAL kitty, which has been escaped from Pecos
Loop Area.

 Description:
A Small Female Adult with Short Beige Hair
Shy and afraid of people therefore, she will most likely to run
away if you have an eye contact with her.

If you have already seen her, please call ASAP regarding his whereabouts. If
you see her in the future , please do NOT CATCH her or DO NOT CHASE her. But
please call us immediately regarding her whereabouts. If you dont object,
please put food and water, so that she can survive. We will supply with food!!

Oh.. poor baby, he is probably very scared - important thing is that
kids do not try to find him or chase him as they may think they are
helping but actually it will scare him more, and you don't really want

Hideyo

Oh, also...I caught this strand late...so I don't know all that you've tried, but...if you find that someone "thinks" they see Sam, and its close by...or at least near a neighbor who would be willing to keep an eye out for you.leave a dirty sock nearby (there are more scent glands on your feet than other parts of your body I'm told)...consitantly day after day. If Sam is around and frightened, the continuous smell of you might help to draw him near one place over and over again. Leave food near the sock as well. Be consitant WHEN you renew the used sock and foodesp. if you can time it around the time you would normally be coming home from work...or when Sam would normally be fed. (Only problem...the food could draw others who might scare Sam off, so whether or not you leave the food is your call.)

Again, if someone "spots" him close by, try walking to that area with your shoes on, taking them off there and straight walking home. Cats DO follow scent, and if Sam is lost and scared...your scent (or whoever he is closest to in the family) might just draw him home. Just becareful to stay away from roads and the ends of driveways as much as possible...try to pick a safe route home for him...then leave an outside light on and a screened window "open" so you can hear him if he comes calling.

Lastly, tell the AC to try to send a visual to Sam what you are doing to help him find his way home.

Animals communicate, it is believed, not through words but more like an autistic child would. Thoughts are pictures, not verbalizations. Try contacting Sam yourself, as he knows you and may be able "pick up" on you more so than the AC...may trust what he's receiving more. Call to him with your mind, as you would if you were calling to him in the house for something he enjoyed. Picture him running up to you inside the house. Picture picking him up and hugging himor however you expressed your love for him. Now.. picture walking with him, or carrying him outside of the house. Show him what the outside of the house looks likeesp. details near his eye level. Slowly picture walking around the house and then the yard in growing circles. Once you reach the end of the property, go with him back into the house...to your safe spot againtogether. Do this again, widening the imagined circle each time, always returning with detailed visuals to the house and back inside of it. Each time you return...picture Sam safe, with you,
wrapped in that original loving Sam color.By visualizing the neighborhood you are showing himhow to get home from various areas. (If he is an indoor cat...he may not KNOW what the outside of the house looks like!) Picture yourself out looking for him, again...picture yourself hugging himor however you spend quality time...picture him coming home to you...then relaxslow your breathing...and try to clear your head of all thoughts...trust what comes into your mind...and follow eachshadow... with a pictured thought of your love for Samthen relax and clear your mind again.

Picture other people in the neighborhood who are looking for him. Picture him being found by each in turn...always ..picture them bringing him to you! If you use the bare foot trail I suggested above, you should "show" him that too.

It seems like a lot, but do this over and over again. When you clear your mind...if you think you are starting to get an image that you are not controlling, slowly wrap this image in the color you have chosen to surround Sam when he is relaxedif any of the nervous colors sneak in...try to sooth them out gently...but don't try to manipulate any shadows you are seeing...don't try to turn them into what you want them to be...just let it happen.

You may not "see" anything yourself...but don't assume that its not working. It has been proven that animals retain an esp that humans surpress. They have trained cameras on dogs and cats that have shown them waking up at the exact time their owners have "decided" to head home. Great idea about asking AC to send an
energy to bring him home they can send Sam an energy to tell him how to
get home, sending a picture of how to get home (though, I think the
problem might be that he does not think his foster family is not his home as he
probably thinks of his former mother as a home, and I think thats why he
has not gotten home yet.

I think once he is spotted, if he is a
skittish kitty ( which I get a feeling of), you might have to try to set a trap
from him AFER establishing a feeding pattern every day for a while

If someone calls you with any information,
try to get all the detail as much as possible, time of the day (very important as
cats do like to follow a pattern and you can then stake out to
spot him, exact location, and if he runs away, find out exactly which location
he came from and which direction he went, what was he doing when they saw him
exactly? How did he seem? Etc

Do you think your vet would be willing to talk to my vet about her

I was going to talk to her about it, and I haven't - I am sure that she
will be open to this, but I feel more comfortable if she can talk to
someone who actually applied the practice like your vet - My vet, she is
also a very nice special person, too.

Bones and Iare back from the specialist
today. Bones has a "Caudal end plate fracture of L3 Vertebrae", and possible
pelvic fractures also, but the pelvic fracturesdid not show on x-ray
(but the vet says she is unusually tender in the hips, and feels "off" on
palpation). She said that Bones is really doing so much better than can really
be expected from this injury (she's like, best case scenario at this point),
and that she doesn't see any need to go into surgery right now, and so Bones
is now on anti-inflammatory drugs and complete bed rest for a month. If she
gets worse, then we could still end up in surgery, but this is something that
could heal on it's own. So, YEAH, good news! The vet really seemed to like
her, She wanted to see Bones walk, and so I called her out of the kennel, and
Bones swayed her way over to the doctor, and then she made a nice big circle
around the room, as if she knew exactly what the doctor wanted. The doctor
said "Oh what a good little kitty, you made such a nice circle for us, what a
good girl!". Hehe, she really is a cute little cat, you can't help but be
taken in by her winning little personality! Now, how to keep her from pacing
the cage and trying to chew her way to freedom will be the problem. She's
already going NUTS in the bathroom, and I've been told that that is too much
space, and she needs to be in a 2x3 foot cage at max (just enough room for her
to stretch out comfortably and fit a litterpan and food bowls), so she cannot
walk around, and is basically forced to lay, sit or stand still for a month. I
have to buy a cage, but don't have the money til next payday, so she has a few
more days of pacing the bathroom until she's a real prisoner. The poor cat
does not understand that we are trying to SAVE her, she thinks we are
intentionally locking her in alone and ignoring her. I already feel guilty,
and it hasn't even really begun yet. Hopefully, if I get one of the open wire
type of dog cages, where she can see out all sides, it will help to calm her
down and make her feel less confined than being closed behind a solid door. I
gotta get pictures for you guys so you can see her. Oh, and she weighs 5.7
pounds.. told you she was TINY! (at least compared to my 12 to 14 pound

Ok, off to change litterboxes, shower, tend to

Sebastian needs help!!!!

2005-06-03 Thread JENNIFER RATLIFF

I have just returned from the vet. Sebastian's hind legs are weaker and he has lost more weight. The vet just doesn't seem to want to work with me and do absolutley everything for my baby. When I asked her about the weakness in hishind legs she said that it could just be the disesase attacking his nervous system. She also stated, "I don't want to give up on him because he is FELV+." Givving up on Sebastian is the last thing that I am doing! I was not happy with that remark. I want her to do everything and anything to try and help him. I suggested drugs like Immunoreglin and Acemannan and she had never used them and said she wasn't sure if you could even use them on cats. She just doesn't seem as if she knows what she is doing. So, my question is Does anyone have any experience using Immunoreglin on their
cats? and DOes anyone have a vet who is up to date on alot of Feline Leukemia treatments and is dedicated to doing what it takes to help? I will go anywhere. I just need help finding a really good vet.

Re: Sebastian needs help!!!!

2005-06-03 Thread Lernermichelle

1. Where are you located? You should definitely try a different vet.
I suggest that you try a board-certified internist. They are usually located at
large veterinary hospitals and vet school clinics. Do you have any of
those near you? If so, call and ask if they have an internal medicine department
with an internist on staff. They tend to be better and more knowledgeable,
though, like with anything, they vary too.

2. I have used Immuno-regulin for bad upper respiratory infections and
pneumonia and it seems to work. The dosage is .25 to .5 ml once or twice a week,
by IV injection. You can order it yourself and bring it to the vet to give
to him. You can order it from Revival Animal Health, online. It sometimes
produces fever, chills, and diarrhea for a few hours afterwards, but sometimes
has no side effects at all. I have seen both, with my two cats I have tried it
on.

3. You can also try feline interferon, which your vet has to get permission
from the FDA to order. The info is in our archives. It is different from
interferon alpha, available in the states. Three of us have tried it and
have not been as impressed with it as we had hoped, but it is hard to say
exactly what effect it has had because there are so many variables and we
donot know what would have happened without it.

Also, he could have lymophoma, a cancer which positives have a tendency
toward. It is often responsive to chemotherapy, but it would need to be
diagnosed first. So I would try to get to an internist.

Bones Bramble

2005-06-03 Thread Lomaxturtle

Oh that is such a sweet story about Bones - so please she has improved -
the just cope so remarkably well.

Bramble (FIV+) has now been on Feline Omega Interferon for 2 days and I am
learning how to inject tomorrow so that I can just do it at home to save him the
stress of the vet visits. I am waiting the results of his FeLV test too so that
should be back in a week or so as it needs confirming by Glasgow University (UK)
along with his calicivirus and herpesvirus tests.

Minstrel (FeLV+) and Buddy (FIV+) just keep looking at him because he isn't
well. I know more about FIV than FeLV as Minstrel is my first FeLV+ cat so I
dread the day when she becomes symptomatic. Someone mentioned diluting
interferon to keep symptoms at bay - where do you buy it from online and does
anyone know if it legal for me to buy it online to bring in to the UK as drug
laws are quite strict - my vet wasn't sure if it is legal or not. The vets can't
prescribe human interferon in UK as we have feline omega interferon and
protocols available but she said she doesn't mind me breaking the rules slightly
if I'm doing it myself and just let her know whats happening - she was amazed
how cheap it can be bought online when I said some people buy a bottle for $20 -
$40. If it is a choice of bending the rules or myfurkids suffering through
being deprived of treatmentthen my cats lives win every time. They fight
so so hard forus so it's only rightwe help them win that fight until
the time comes when they can no longer win whenoftenneed to help
them pass over peacefully no matter how painful that time is for us. AndI
guess we all know that feeling - and my heart goes out to those of you have
recently lost your beloved - I'm sure if all ourkitties past and
presentwould be so praising and thankful that they had us - because
everyone here and in the other group I'm with for FIV are the most caring
responsible owners possible -everyone isdoing their best to do what
is right for their kitties andgiving so muchlove and care-
no-one can ask more than that.

I argued with my boyfriend many times over my kittie who passed over in
March this year - he used to say that cats only ever want food and don't need
and love and affection - just food. I used to go mental - and he never got many
cuddles in bed as my cat stayed sleeping on my chest getting all the attention
she needed instead. I'm still with him but I moved out and moved home to my
parents withBramble, Buddy Minstrel. Thank goodness there are some
of us who know how much love and care cats do actually need and especially cats
with compromised immune systems or who are sick.

My message is getting a little long so I'm going to stop writing now -
prayers going out to protect all our cats and to protect the souls of our dear
departed.

She probably won't have alot to say until I can get them all
switched over to homemade food and get a retest on their bloodwork.
I'm not going to retest them until they are on the homemade food
completely. She can verify that they have both gained weight and Joey's
allergy symptoms are better. He was getting scabs on the sides of his
chin, being that his normal bloodwork was all OK, and with his
continuous diarrhea we suspect IBD. Then when the special bloodwork
came back showing his hormones are out of whack we decided to put them
both on pred and it has helped as far as the diarrhea and the scabs, he
gets them less frequently, and it takes months for all the toxins from
the crap food to get out of their system, but until I get them
completely off the Fancy Feast I won't really know how good they are
actually doing. Just made a new batch of food and am dehydrating a
batch for dry, only took me 2 hours to rollthem into bite size balls. I
sure hope they eat it :)

Re: Sebastian needs help!!!!

2005-06-03 Thread Laurie B. Oliver

Hello, Jennifer,
When my BJ
was diagnosed with feline leukemia in July, 2004, I began to research the
disease and its treatments. Acemannen and ImmunoRegulin (correct
spelling) are treatments for the disease, according to what I read.
However, I would go to someone who knows how to administer the drugs
correctly.
At the
time of BJ's diagnosis, we were going to a traditional veterinarian who
recommended that we euthanize him right away. The vet said
that feline leukemia a fatal disease and the BJ would just keep getting
sicker. I was not about to give up on him. I knew that if feline leukemia
was a treatable illness and that BJ could have a good quality of life,
that's what he would have.
I
immediately got on the Internet and tried to find out everything I could
about the illness. As a result, I found that it could be successfully
treated by vets who practice alternative veterinary techniques. I looked
for such a vet in my area and found one in the Yellow Pages of my local
phone book.
She has
been a God-send. Later, when the virus flared up in BJ, our new vet
treated him with prednisone. I am not a
veterinarian and cannot dispense medical advice. I am not saying that
prednisone is what should be given to Sebastian. I am saying that
if Sebastian were mine, I would find an alternative vet in my area who
knows how to treat the disease. Everyone else might just be guessing and
that can possibly be worse than doing nothing.
During my
search, I talked to anyone who would listen and told my story. I
specifically asked each vet if he or she was successful in treating
feline leukemia. I asked about treatments they use, their success rate,
the potential life span with the illness, etc. When I found a vet who
seemed to fit BJ's needs, I made the first available appointment with
her. I have NEVER regretted my decision.
I hope
this bit of advice has been helpful. If there is anything I can do to
help, please let me know.

Hi all,

Thanks for your warm emails for Jersey. I am going to print all of them on one page, put it in a plastic folder and attach iton the tree next tohis grave inside the forest. This will also help me torecognise the place in the winter.

I read the Rainbow Bridge poem that Barbara sent me and try to believe this is a true. I am also waiting for a message from Jersey about a new cat...

Imiss him a lot. As a typical British Shorthair he used to come to the door every time I entered and I feel awful now.

My big lesson from that case and the last emails about Sebastian is that not all vets are experienced as I thought before. Some of them are and some are not. I don't know how many people are in the forum but hopefully we cover half of the states. We might make a list with the qualified vets for each state based onpersonalexperience. In case somebody needs a FeLV vet the name can be pulled from the record. It is helpful because not everybody is available at anytime but the list can be online 24/7. This is just a suggestion.

I will stay in the forum and try to help if I can.

If anyone knows of a great vet please give me their name and city. I will
make an appointment and go there! What about a vet who uses some of
Plechner's techniques. I also want to thank everyone for all of their
help it means so much to me.

Near water can also mean trapped inside a wall
near the water pipes, stuck on a roof with rain gutters, trapped in a damp
basement, outside in the morning dew, outside in the rain, and any other various
sources of water. In fact, it would be hard for him to not be near water to some
extent, especially since he's lost, and has probably gotten a bit thirsty by
now, and is most likely seeking out a drink if possible. I guess I'm just a
critic, but really, near water doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. (sorry for
the negativity, but had to point all that out)
