Hello Nate and Ken around here ,,,it is a world of ge master 2 and motorola's repeater sometime you can see Tait repeater. We dont have any dealer of kenwood repeatersnot even mobile radios. they seems to be reliable and simple repeater and where i will install it ,it is what i need. Any good Kenwood 2-way dealer should be able to help you obtain proper manuals/documentation for it, unless it's an old enough model that documentation is out of print. A GREAT dealer will help you find the manuals, program the repeater, etc... even if you bought it from someone else, perhaps charging a reasonable price for their shop technician's time. I have been dealing with two Kenwood dealers. One charged me list price for my 1st Kenwood and one who gives a nice discount to Ham and GMRS people. Guess who I bought my next 5 Kenwood repeaters from. The local GA dealer gave me all kinds of crap about buying out of state. But he does not even do his own repairs. The out of state folks have a wonderful state of the art shop and service what they sell. So I get a discount and great service. Plus they are great on the phone with free help before and after the sale. I just love my Kenwood repeaters on GMRS and 927 MHz they just work and work and work! Dealers are looking for big sales like a P.D. to make any money, most buyers would request a price break after xxx units bought:) Not here where I live:) These morons pay list price for 500 units of M gear xts5000 stuff...off subject someone is in bed with someone:) Here is my thoughts on the subject, if I have a dealer that wants say $1500.00 for a repeater and another dealer offers me the same gear for $1100.00, I would buy from the guy not charging me list price! Since Kenwood gear is of such high quality I would be very surprised if it failed and had to be returned for warranty repair unless it was a lemon or got blown up by the ham radio owner. Either way, the unit would be send to a "Authorized" service center, not some dealer with a magic screw driver and an ohm meter to figure out what blew up. I'm luck I have a deal that will sell me any product of Kenwood for dealer cost plus 5% and S & H here so I have no problems with my commercial & ham stuff... I was a Kenwood dealer for over 20 years before I retired and from day 1 (1983) when Kenwood brought their landmobile line into the states, they had a very definitive policy. It wasn't as strict as some of the newer contracts are trying to enforce, but the contracts I signed had the following 2 things: What is your general business area (usually defined by counties) and #2.was all sales must be face to face...in other words the beginning of making sure the products weren't sold wholesale or via means such as the internet. Now this didn't preclude me from selling products in Venezula, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Idaho, California and many other places. I sold the product and may have shipped it, but I had met with the customer either in their location or in my location. So even being in Wisconsin I was able, LEGALLY, to sell any place I wanted to, and this fit the letter of the contract. I sold repeaters to Ham's all over the USBUT...I did meet with these persons at one time or another...whether it be a swapfest of Hamvention or even by accident on vacation. The reasoning behind Kenwood and other manufacturers policies is not a restraint of trade, but in essence was developed to make sure the customer got the best of service. These companies that sell other brands of 2way via the internet and other means have no way of offering the support a local dealer can. And I'm not talking just Service, I'm talking all the support they need...licensing, access to tower sites and on and on. These contracts are LEGALLY binding (at least in Wisconsin), because I never signed one until my lawyers looked them over and gave me their legal opinion. There were times when certain lines we sold required us to sign contracts that weren't legal and our lawyers pointed this out and x'ed out the offending sentences and paragraphs. This was never a problem as they were accepted after the modifications when the contract company checked State laws in the state we were doing business in. In summary: I don't think Kenwood cares if hams buy TK850's or any other gear from a Kenwood dealer out of their area. This is a very small percentage of the dealers sales and really don't impact the spirit of the contract. 73, Gregg R. Good reasons = $ Instead of helping out the Amateur community, who on that rare occasion does perform some valuable public service, they would just as soon gouge everyone equally. They just don't understand the market and good will they could generate. How many repeater users would like to use a nice new repeater instead of some cobbled up pile of obsolete radios ?? I have bought 4 Kenwood's for use on GMRS, 3 for 927 MHZ and one for two meters all from Cook Tower's (877)992-2665 they are Kenwood sales and service and I have had great luck with them all so far. Joel, When seeking the best price for a radio or repeater, I send out an "RFQ" (Request for Quote) form to at least a half dozen dealers, both in and out of state. I specify EXACTLY what I want, so the dealer cannot try to "bundle" some slow-moving accessories with the repeater or make substitutions, and I call for a "bottom line" price that includes all applicable taxes and shipping charges. After all, the bottom line is what comes out of my pocket. Invariably, the best prices come from large-volume dealers. I know that a dealer who does a half million dollars per month in sales is going to get a much better wholesale price from Kenwood than Billy Bob's Radio and Bait Shop in East Podunk. (Used only for illustration; East Podunk residents, please don't write!) I will not pay an outrageous price, just to keep Billy Bob in business! If you want to buy a TKR-750 repeater for Amateur Radio use on 2m, be careful that you specify a TKR-750K2 radio, and NOT the TKR-750K radio. The K2 radio is specified for 136-150 MHz, while the K radio is specified for 146-174 MHz. Obviously, the K2 radio is peaked over the entire 2m band- but you still must tune the RF front end for optimum sensitivity before placing the radio in service. When you order the radio, also order the Service Manual B51-8556-10, the KPG-66D Programming Software, and the KPG-46 Programming Interface Cable. Naturally, your RFQ should include these accessories with the order for the TKR-750K2 repeater. One last comment, although the TKR-750 repeater has many useful features, including a built-in Morse IDer, it does not have a Courtesy Beep. Don't forget If you're going to order a new one, get the "E TYPE" as the factory spec on it puts it in the amature band. The "K", "K1", or "K2" does not spec in the amature band. Being a retired dealer that used to sell them to hams$1000 to 1100 is a good price. The list price is 1500 + and we always did ham clubs at or around 1000 including programming and alignment. They are excellent repeaters, when I sold my business I had 18 channels of Narrow-Band UHF trunking using 850's with TPL amps putting out 110 watts. We never had a failure and some of the sites were extremely busy, so much so you would think hams were talkingI'm talking large fleets of school busses, 125 or so busses to each dispatcher, so they would run continuous for 2 or more hours at a time.
