Why not using the same template?

2005-04-01 Thread MAU
Hello all,

This is a problem not related only to the latest pre-betas, it occurs
with v3.0.2.10 I'm using and it occurred with previous versions. It may
have always been that way but I can't assure/prove it.

This is the scenario:

- I'm on a folder where I have defined a folder template for new
messages.

- I'm viewing a message that includes an e-mail address [EMAIL PROTECTED]
in the body.

- If I double click on this address, I get a new message using the
folder template.

- If I right click on the address and select Write a message to this
address from the context menu, I get a new message using the account's
default template for new messages.

Is this the intended behaviour? If so, why? I think folder template
should be used in both cases.

to solve this issue as well as the one mentioned by Boris and Alexander you

Secure to regular port does NOT work with 1und1 any more!

I called them by phone and was told to remove all my accounts and set them up

I tried to ask them WHAT they have changed when installing a new certificate.
But I

So for now the one and only solution is to do it without a secure TLS

Maybe it can help if a lot of 11 customers will call the help center and bomb

- when focusing on a message with attachments (html messages, text
messages without headers Content-Type: charset=us_ascii on this list,
real attachements)
- when displaying headers of such messages (Ctrl+Shift+K)
- when replying to a message (any messages of tbbeta, with ou witout
attachments)

When focusing on messages with attachments: error in thebat.exe,
address 00402b7f, read from address 7ffdf000

Funny thing: now I cannot return to display without headers (with
shortcut key or with right clic menu). Close TB, have a Programe
error (send info to Microsoft). TB stays in memory (have to kill it).
Relaunch TB and all works perfect.

Odd. It doesn't do that here. If I double click on the ticker nothing
happens. If I double click on a message is the ticker then TB! gets
the focus and the message I clicked on in the ticker is selected but
nothing 'opens'. I just see the message highlighted in the message

Sorting Office Statistics

2005-04-01 Thread Stuart Hemming
What causes the 'Tested' count to be incremented and what causes the
'Triggered' count to be incremented?

I know the obvious answers but they don't really stack up. For
example, I filter all internal mail in to a single mailbox. I get a
fair bit of it.

The stats read:
  Tested 1292 times
  Triggered 25 times

The 'Tested' figure doesn't make sense 'cos I don't know /how/ to test
a filter (anyone care to enlighten me?) and the 'Triggered' figure is
obviously wrong.

I appreciate that the collection of these stats might be a relatively
new thing so I don't really expect the figures to me wholly accurate
anyhow.

Well, it works just good, if you use auth.smtp.kundenserver.de as SMTP

!01.04.2005, 14:54:34: SEND - TLS handshake failure. Invalid server

In 3.09.11 you must fall back to regular port. So it seems to be a
problem with TheBat!, too. Developers? Do you need a test-account? No
problem :-).

PO Fixed items in 3.0.9.10:

Well, I suppose 'tested' would be the messages that are compared with
 the conditions for your filter
Well done, that never occurred to me! 8-)

Checking those numbers while browsing my sorting office they almost
 check out fine.
I suppose they might make more sense if I know from when they had been
collected, ie which version the collection started.

Definitely something that needs to be worked upon.
I agree.

Mind you, I can't see how they (the stats) are of any use unless you
can (a) access them, say, via macros and (b) reset them. If those
conditions were met I could see them forming the basis of a usage
report otherwise they're just consuming processor cycles.

Think it's a cosmetic issue. I don't see the sense, why the shouldn't
have the same width. If users want to use the full width of the

problem, becaue it's impossible to realize this in all Tabs.

Ok, that's an argument. But maybe one suggestion: Hide the format menu

3.0.9.11 issues

2005-04-01 Thread Marck D Pearlstone
Hi TB Beta list members,

1) Define Ctrl+Enter as shortcut

I am unable to assign Ctrl+Enter to any shortcut or button,
although it already exists as a defined shortcut. I am used to
using Ctrl+Enter to finish editing an email and have it placed in
the outbox. Now it is hard coded to Send now and cannot be
   changed.

2) Unable to globally use Ctrl+J for Mark as Junk

I want to do this, as it is obviously much easier to use. However,
the Ticker / folder view doesn't have access to the
MailerForm_shortcuts set used to define the Main interface
shortcuts. The MessageListViewer_Shortcuts set is the only set
available in that situation. The shortcut definer there doesn't
allow me to set Ctrl+J for the Mark as Junk function. I guess
because it's already in use. But it shouldn't be. These are not
   mutually exclusive areas.

3) Scroll bar

All scroll bars everywhere seem to be out-of-whack. They all show
slack scroll areas - the ScrollRange is set beyond the bounds of
the list / view. If you drag any scroll bar to the bottom of the
track, the list / window scrolls well beyond the end of data.

4) Headers in message/folder view

If I right click on a message header and slide into the headers
sub-menu, none of the currently shown header items are selected. If
I select an item, the currently shown headers all vanish to be
replaced by the single selected option. If I carry on and select
the headers I want displayed, the selection list does not survive
   closing the window.

5) Missing navigation functions

I did moan about this one before. All versions of TB before 3.0.9
included a view previous / next message in navigation. I really
miss this. I mean, previous / next in list is a pretty basic
function! It's up / right in terms of arrow keys while in the list,
sure. But without it being a named / in the menu as a function, the
operations cannot be performed while the message list does not have
the focus. This is important. Honest!

6) AV errors - not logged in except.log

Now - let's see. Sometimes these cascade. Sometimes I can get in
long enough to close, but it gets nasty errors on exit. This lot
ended up in a hard loop:

 AV @ 0057EC97 ... read of 2B203042
 AV @ 00B4C613 ... read of 025C
 AV @ 00B72C96 ... read of 01CC
AV @ 03853E42 ... read of 00013006 (not in The Bat)
AB @ ... read of (looping)

TBBETA Mission Statement

2005-04-01 Thread Marck D Pearlstone
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Greetings Beta Listers,

This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you
of the primary purpose of this discussion list.

To review the list rules, follow the link at the end of this message.

Before posting a question to the list, please check The Bat! User's
FAQ at: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/FAQ.html and the list
archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] To
join the list, send a message to
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

TBBETA Mission statement

The TBBETA list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The
Bat! officially released Beta test versions and related issues. For
general topics of a more simple nature regarding full release
versions, refer to TBUDL. For more complex topics refer to TBTECH.

An 'officially released' beta version is one which has been
announced *by RITlabs* on the TBBETA list, usually with a list of
changes.

Simply send messages to tbbeta@thebat.dutaint.com to send it to
the whole list.

See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to
manage your list membership or to leave the list.

It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep
TBBETA messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to
have in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox
into your TBBETA folder.

Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for:

Header Field [Reply-To] Contains [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The Roguemoticon Project

It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them
to see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish
to add yourself, then you'll need to visit this site
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat

What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

To trigger the roguemoticon display in the message header for anyone
reading your message using TB, you have the choice of using the
X-Rogue: header or a signature trigger.

How to use a signature trigger
The image is triggered by a 'Handle' you've defined in your
account, and when that Handle appears in a message it gets
replaced on the client side by the corresponding image. A handle
could look like anything you want it to look like pretty much.
For example:
:Leif_Gregory:
Just add this text to your standard message signature block.

How to create the X-Rogue: header
You can do that with this macro:
%SetHeader('X-Rogue',':your_handle:')%- in your templates for
this and other tb-lists.
However, the macro alone won't do the trick.
TB'll say: 'Hey, that's not any RFC822 header I know about', so
you'll have to define it as such:
Options .. Preferences .. Messages .. Message headers .. 'Add'

Now you'll get a pop-up to define the header

Display as: X-Rogue (or whatever, it isn't very important)
  RFC header: X-Rogue
Uncheck: 'This field is an address list' (because it isn't)
Check: 'Allow this field to be edited in the message editor'
Uncheck: 'Display this field in the scrollable part of the
  header pane'

Now you're done and every TB-user can see your lovable face when
they've installed the roguemoticons.

For you to see peoples faces:

To get this going, you should be running TB! v2.12 or later. Fetch
  the following file:
  http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/smileys/rogues.zip

Unzip it to the 'Images' directory that's in your TB! installation
  directory: C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images
You should now have a directory called 'rogues' containing many
images as well as the file 'rogues.msl' in your Images directory.
Go into the preferences, and bring up the View/Editor options. Now
hit Shift-CTRL-Alt-T while TB! is in focus. This will re-fetch
TB!'s smiley set from disk and load the new images.

I've discovered that you can mess with the mainform.def file and that
works, kind of. However it gets overwritten with each new version so
it might pay to take a copy and 'diff' it with the new one when you
get a new version from RitLabs.

Changes to the TB Lists

2005-04-01 Thread Leif Gregory
Hello all,

It's with a heavy heart that we (the moderators) have finally come to
a point in our lives where the TB lists have become so successful that
it has begun to seriously impact our ability to lead a normal life.

In our time as moderators, some of us have lost wives and girlfriends,
our children, gone into debt and filed for bankruptcy. I myself was
relegated to living in a cardboard box on the corner of Central and
Lomas hacking my way into the nearby Starbucks wi-fi network each day
so that I might continue my duties as a moderator.

It is more than an obsession. It's a calling. A calling to duty which
transcends this world and all Earthly possessions. We, the moderators,
have devoured the EMA scale. EMA5 is nothing to us. A minor deity in
our pitiful universe of self absorption and obsession. No longer are
we bound to our mortal bodies, for we are one with the ether, one with
the RFCs, one with e-mail. We are The Bat! therefore, we are all that
is e-mail. We see all you write, we see all you read. Feed us. Feed us
like a spammer would gorge the world on their offal.

From today forward, to remain a subscriber to our realm of goodness on
the TB lists, it'll cost you $5,000 per month.

Yes, this may seem steep. A burden unbearable. But please, remember,
that'll buy us a whole boatload of Big Macs with a large fry and a
coke.

Hello Leif,

Not bad! In Spain and other European countries we use a , instead of

But with version 3.09.11 you can't send it at all. I have that problem
with 3.0.1 RC6, but there a simply try again works, while it never works
 on 3.09.11.

Somethings wrong with either TB or 1und1 anyway (you surely noticed): the
1und1 smtp server says auth (plain), TB tries that, the server responds
with incorrect auth data, TB switches to auth (login), and then it
works.

Did you first add them to a toolbar. This then lets you edit the
shortcut. I think you can then remove it from the toolbar and retain
the shortcut, but I cannot attest to that.

SH Just as a matter of interest, can anyone identify what each of the
SH entries in the 'Select Container' drowpdown represents?

Not a clue in most cases. The ones that I really need access to don't
appear to be there. They are the ones contained in the current menus,
like View/Display/Unread Messages Only.

Hello Henk,

On 01 April 2005 at 16:14:40 GMT +0200 (which was 16:14:40 where I
live), Henk de Bruijn wrote and made these valuable points on the
subject of Warning, lots of AVs in this versions.:

Strange those AV's. I have had them in almost every pre beta. I tried
if deleting thebat.exe and after that copying the new thebat.exe would
help to solve this, but no. I even make new shortcuts every time I
install a new(er) version. But after the computer has been turned of
for a rather long period (night), the problem seems to have gone here
almost completely. I am reading and typing for almost an hour now and
 not one AV!

One other strange thing just happened when I was looking at an attached
 screenshot (png), thebat just closed/ended??

I was also fed up with these random AVs but since I used the RAR files (.def,
xml, .dll and .png) of 3.09.10 with /ONLY/ the exe of TB 3.09.11, the number of
AVs dropped to almost zero. Maybe it's a coincidence but the fact is that the
AVs almost disappeared;-)
