serial number and checksum for TheBat

2004-06-15 Thread SL
Hello BatPhiles

I was just reinstalling TheBat (yet again)and thought I might do it
'clean and new'...ie a new install, and without resorting to
restoration of data from a Backup

However...I ran into a problem with registration: I have my
registration(serial) number but I don't have a checksum number
recorded anywhere

So..how do you get around this ..if you do a clean/new instal, you
have your serial number...but no other data??

I have a feeling this has been discussed before, but...

(PS No 'runtime' or 'error reading database' messages in the last few
hours...;-)

Well, the serial number is not the same as the registration key. Both
the registration key and the checksum have sent to you in a message.

If I'd do a clean install even without importing my old messagebase (I

An other option would be to save the registration key from the

2004-06-15 Thread achdut
Way back in August 2003 I inquired about how to set up The Bat on a
laptop, download e-mail from the server, and, eventually, transfer all
of the downloaded e-mail to the pre-exising Bat file on my desktop.
Alie's response clued me in to synchronization. Well, after 10
months, I am just getting around to setting up The Bat on the laptop,
and I am running into a problem in just trying to copy the_bat_o.exe
file to the laptop. When I run the setup file, I get the following
error message when I attempt to install The Bat to the c:\program
directory: cannot access directory \\DESKTOP\THE BAT!\MAI

Why would it try to access the desktop?
And, even though a Bat subdirectory was created within the program
directory, when I attemtp to click on the bat.exe file, I get the same
error message. Why?

Just a partial answer, on most tricky term I ever encountered in TB, and
as I know not well known even amongst native English speakers: actually
*anything* in header(s) area of a message.

You can see this, usually hidden, part of a message, when you do
Ctrl+Shift+K (or by right-click on preview pane and selecting RFC-822
headers).

Quoting in Forward

2004-06-15 Thread ken green
I don't recall how many versions I have noticed this, but it's grown
annoying enough to post here. When I forward a message, TB insists on
*quoting* the message (preceding each line with ) AND using the
forward template I have set up.

This happens whether I use %Text or %Quotes in my Forward template.

I end up deleting the redundant quoted text every time I forward a
message. My Forward template looks like this:

[begin template]

%Cursor

--
%QINCLUDE=kmgsig

==forwarded message===

From: %OFromName %OFromAddr
To: %OToList
Date: %ODateEn, %OTimeLongEn
Subject: %OSubj

%Text

End of forwarded message==

[end template]

I've tried inserting %Clear in the template to no avail.

Is this a known problem? Is there something else I can do? Does this
happen to anyone else?

Thanks.

I am such... a moron.

Guess what's at the bottom of that sig file?:

%IF:%Quotes:%-
 -Original Message-
 From: %OFROMNAME [%OFROMADDR]
 Sent: %ODATE %OTIME
 Subject: %OSUBJ

%Quotes

I put that there a long time ago because I was having problems with
reply text disappearing when in the editor. When I replied to a
message and started typing, then invoked kmgsig, the quoted text
disappeared. So I added that if clause to my sig file.

Duh!

Anyone know how to avoid BOTH problems? I can fix my sig file so
that forwards won't have the duplicated text, but I will still have
the quoted text in Replies disappear when switching signatures via QT.

Unfortunately, the disappearing problem also happens when switching
accounts because that signature is associated with an account.

Am I doing something wrong? It seem like the %ISSIGNATURE is almost
useless if limited by what I'm describing.

My signatures aren't very complicated. I just prefer to make things
as atomic as I can, and having a sig in one place is the best way to
go, IMO.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Actually, using %ISSIGNATURE in a Reply template wipes out all quoted
text. That is, simply hitting Reply (even partial quoting w/ F4)
results in message with no quoted text if %ISSIGNATURE is part of that
account.

That can't be by design. Why would %ISSIGNATURE wipe out text that is
already there?

TB can handle it all right, you can do it by changing the from address
manually, by means of folderr identities (that's what I'm doing) or by
means of the %From= macro in your templates.

The rest is to convince your serverto send for for all of those
addresses via one account. As I'm running my own server, that's easy.

copied to this system. I'm not sure how to handle my archiving now.
(I'm still archiving stuff at my server, though.)

A Is that by requesting two copies of everything you intend to receive?

No my server has an archiving feature, that I'm using to create
monthly archives of all mal that's passing it.
