[Bug 292356] Re: No proper boot after upgrade to 8.10
Way too late. That installation is gone now. If I remember correctly: LiveCD worked. I did not try "fix x" or anything similar. I was running proprietary drivers from nvidia. [Bug 292356] [NEW] No proper boot after upgrade to 8.10
Public bug reported: I had Xubuntu 8.04 running on my computer when I decided to upgrade to the new 8.10. I followed the instructions on the Ubuntu site, installing all other updates first. [Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive
Maybe I did cut/paste from the hard drive to the flash and then unplugged without dismounting. The ideal result would be that the files were saved back to the hard drive, but it would be like 90% my own fault if they weren't. Maybe Ubuntu should warn like Windows when you unplug without dismounting. But that would be a feature request, not a bug report. So I am just not sure whether I have encountered a bug or not. -- files gone from USB flash drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive
Hmmm.. I can feel I don't like that question... because I can't answer it properly. In Ubuntu I have only seen the "dismount volume" option. I guess that is the one you are thinking about. I must admit that I do/did not always use that option (Ubuntu does not tell me to...). As to the actual case, I do not remember, but I think it would have reached my thoughts if I did not, as a possible explanation for the problem. Hmm, tell me what would happen if I moved about 50 MB to the USB drive and then unplugged it without dismounting. [Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive
Linux Mint 4, based on Ubuntu 7.10. When I had that worst problem, where all the files were gone, I used Ubuntu 7.10 upgraded from 7.04. Steps to reproduce? H. I'd say it is not reproducible always, at least not from my experience. But, as said, files seem to disappear some times when I do cut/paste to and from USB flash drives. I am sorry if the information I have provided is not sufficient to help solving the issue. Hmm. Actually I could try to reproduce the problem by moving files, though... Later, then. If it is a problem of the file system handling, it will likely be very different now that I have reformatted the drive with ext2. -- files gone from USB flash drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive
The last time only one drive was involved, and the folder "disappeared" even though I did not remove and reattach the USB flash drive. The first time is maybe two months ago. I honestly do not remember exactly what I did, but I know I would have blamed myself if I did something obviously wrong, like removing the drives while copying. I did, however, remove the first drive after copying to my hard drive, and then placed the other drive in the same USB port (without changing any fstab or such). I don't trust cut/paste in nautilus, now maybe especially not to/from FAT drives. -- files gone from USB flash drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208162 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208162] [NEW] files gone from USB flash drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I had a lot of files on my old flash drive and wanted to move them to my new one. I moved them via my home folder. Then, when I was done, my files were gone. This was on my old installation, but I can provide some possibly relevant information: - The drive I moved from was 128MB vfat. - The drive I moved to was 1GB vfat. On my new installation, I encountered a similar problem, while not so severe. I renamed a folder, and then it seemed to disappear. But when I clicked "refresh", it returned. The fstab of my current installation is as follows (probably f* anyway): # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # proc/proc procdefaults0 0 /dev/sda1 noneswapsw 0 0 /dev/sda2 noneext3auto0 1 /dev/sdb1 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1 #Here is the flash pen /dev/sdc1 /media/GMINNEPINNE vfat user0 1 /dev/scd1 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user, noauto, exec 0 0 /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user, noauto, exec 0 0 #fstab end I tried the program testdisk to see if it was possible to recover any of the data. It was not. But the program gives strange warning messages: Disk /dev/sdc - 1016 MB / 969 MiB - CHS 1017 32 61 Current partition structure: Partition StartEndSize in sectors Warning: Incorrect number of heads/cylinder 255 (FAT) != 32 (HD) Warning: Incorrect number of sectors per track 32 (FAT) != 61 (HD) 1 * FAT16 >32M 0 0 33 1016 20 591984479 [NO NAME] Warning: Bad ending head (CHS and LBA don't match) #(end) I chose "Intel/PC partition" in the menu. [Bug 202157] [NEW] (copy/cut)/paste fails without warning if the containing folder is renamed before pasting.

If not, I would expect an error message of some sort which assures me that the files are still in the folder I cut them from, which they are. 5) Nothing happens when I rename the folder. Nothing happens when I try to paste the files that were in the folder. If this is not a problem specific to my installation (Mint 4.0) or my local settings (Norwegian), it is easily reproduced: Create a folder with a file. Cut out the file. Rename the folder to something else. Try to paste the file anywhere.
