I need help with dragon dictation app please.
Hi list, please does anyone know how to use Dragon dictation app? I have a few questions regarding using this app: 1. Once you have the message recorded how do you check it out before sending as a text, a mail or FB/twitter status? 2. Is it possible to rerecord the message before posting? I have tried rerecord the message but it has been recorded right after the previous message. I hope it makes sense. If there is anyone who would be willing to help me how to use the app, please write me at: maria.orovcik...@gmail.com Thank you very much for your help, it would be very highly appreciated. Also, once the album is created, is it possible to add photos and share the photos you added? I’ve seen sighted people do this bot wondered if this could be done if you are not able to see. question: checking in at home on Foursquare
I am puzzled by something I've seen some of my friends on Foursquare doing: checking in when they are at home. I have two questions: 1. Why do this? 2. Since my home doesn't show up in the list of places where I can check in, and I see no way to add a place, how is checking in at home possible? I'd just like to understand. RE: iTunes Library location?
Hi Cliphton, You don't have to move all Media into the iTunes Media folder and you don't have to change the location of your iTunes library in iTunes settings, either. You can simply add Media stored on an external drive to your iTunes library by adding the folder where the media is stored. For example, I have about 25 Gb of music which I keep on my laptop and in the iTunes Media folder on my main hard drive. But since my main drive is a solid state drive which is only 120 Gb, I don't keep my movies on it. I have them on a D-Link network attached storage device. In order to have them in my iTunes library I just go into iTunes and then in the File menu I go to Add Folder to Library. I browse to the folder on my external drive and select it. This adds all the movies and TV series I have in there to the appropriate library and I can play them on my laptop or, via Home Sharing, on my Apple TV. The only disadvantage is that I don't have access to these files when I am away and not connected to my home network, but since I typically don't watch movies when I am not at home that is not a big deal. You could of course use something like a Western Digital external USB 3.0 hard drive which you can get in up to 3 TB and they even have the My Passport series which are USB powered and are very portable. I prefer just pointing to various folders on external drives because this way the actual location of my iTunes library doesn't change and I can keep some media and stuff like apps and ringtones on the laptop and just put the larger media files on an external drive. Okay. I have over 3TB of media. Of course I don't have that much space on my mac. But how do I tell iTunes to point to this location so it will play this media from my apple TV and when I want to add stuff to my iPhone, iPad, or iPod? I looked at the iTunes folder, and I see that it has a media folder. Do I move this folder to the drive destination, and then put the media in here separated by music and videos? Thanks in advance! RE: Rolling back in an app
Hi Shane, I have my phone and iTunes setup to sync my apps anyways. This means that if I have previously set it up to sync, as an example, Skype and I then delete Skype from my iPhone, I only have to sync with iTunes to get Skype back. I don't have to select it because I already selected which apps I want to sync and which I don't want to sync. If I do this and if I haven't updated Skype yet on iTunes then the old version will be installed again on the phone. Of course this means if you check for updates after you do this you will get once more the notification that Skype has an update and you just have to ignore this. There is unfortunately no way to hide updates, so if you have let's say 3 updates and 1 of them is the app you don't want to update you have to make sure you don't say update all and update your other apps one by one. If you set up iTunes to sync a particular selection of apps and you updated an app on the phone but not yet on iTunes, then when you sync the newer version from your phone will sync back to iTunes. This is why it's important to first delete the app on your phone and then sync. If you sync first then the app in iTunes will be updated. Of course this only works if you haven't also updated your apps in iTunes already. I deliberately do this with apps like Skype which in the past was accessible, then it had areas which were not accessible and it took many versions until it was fully accessible again. Now whenever there is a Skype update I install it on my phone and test it and only once I know it works and nothing is broken I also update it in my iTunes. You can even go into your iTunes Media folder and the Mobile Applications subfolder, find a particular app and just make a copy, e.g. in Windows do a Control+c and then a Control+V. In the case of Skype 3.8.1 just to use this as an example this would mean you still have the Skype 3.8.1 file and then right below it you would have Skype 3.8.1 - Copy. This way if you accidently update and something happens you can just delete the app, rename the copied app by taking away the - copy part and resync to get back an older version. RE: New HSBC APP
Hi Tom, Kawal answered that question, in any case, I am not aware of a universal app that works with multiple banks and I doubt that any bank would allow this as it would mean a third-party developer would have to do this which in my opinion would be a huge security issue. There are, of course, many banks in each country and most of them have apps now, I found that most of the major banks in Canada have apps which are very accessible and I guess everybody just has to try it with the app from their bank. Since these apps are typically free there isn't anything lost by trying. RE: iCloud Control Panel for Windows, was Re: Setting up icloud mail on your PC:
Hi Chris, I assume you are not a Windows user, but wherever you get your information it is quite wrong. Just like Grant I can confirm that the iCloud Control Panel for Windows is very accessible with Jaws. You can tab around and Jaws reads everything, I can go into options and change stuff like the location of my Photostream Folder, I can enable or disable bookmark/favourite syncing etc. The iCloud website is a different story, but from what I heard on the list it appears almost that it's more accessible with Windows and Internet Explorer and Jaws than it is on a Mac with Safari and Voiceover. Maybe somebody can correct me, but it is possible to do some stuff like make you riPhone send out a signal if you forget where you put it, I could wipe it etc. I don't use the iCloud website to manage Reminders because while it can be done it's slow and you have to do a lot of Jaws cursor work and why should I use it if I have my iPhone right there and I can add, change or delete reminders with ease and since I use Outlook.com for my personal mail, contacts and calendar and full Exchange for my business contacs, email and calendar I have no reason to use iCloud for that. RE: Remote thermostat control and environmental control
Hi nancy, Check the archives for Thermostat and you will find a bunch of posts as this has been discussed on Viphone quite a lot in the last year or so. I use several thermostats both in my business and at home from www.RadioThermostat.com. You can buy them on the website for I think $139, but others on the list have bought the same thermostat at Home Depot in the US for $99 and you can buy it as well on Amazon. The app to control the Radio Thermostat unit is pretty much fully accessible. Pablo I think bought a Honeywell thermostat with similar functionality but had problems connecting it I think because Honeywell for some reason wasn't supporting ioOS 6. Another new thermostat was also discussed maybe a month or 2 ago, but nobody knows if it's accessible and in my opinion why take a chance if the Radio Thermostat is being used by several people who all like it. Keep in mind that such a thermostat may only cost $100 or $140, but you would have to get a professional installer in to install it for you. Most of these thermostats require a 24 Volt line to power the WiFi radio and this may not be there. Typically a cable with 3 wires is needed for most other thermostats and the Radio Thermostat requires a 4-wire cable and of course running a new cable may be very difficult depending on your house. You can use an external AC adapter with the Radio Thermostat which means as long as you have an outlet nearby it could be plugged in, but you then have a cable dangling down the wall from the thermostat to the outlet. RE: iTunes 10 Podcasts from Jonathan Mosen, was: An ITunes question.
Hi Tina, If you follow the instructions about 5 or 10 minutes into the first Podcast you can do this easily. Jonathan explains how the first thing he does is to go into the control panel, type q for QuickTime, then go to the Browser Tab and uncheck anything to do with MP3. The problem is that when you install iTunes, it changes the default behavior of links like these. Instead of getting the prompt whether you want to open or save the files they just start playing in iTunes. Anyhow, for now you can also get around to it by just goint to the Freedom Scientific website, go to FS Casts, find episode 49 and then on the link for the episode right click or use the context menu key and select Save Target As. This should bring up the standard Windows Save dialogue where you can select the folder where you want then, change the name of the file if you wish and save/download them. Just as a tip, if you use Jaws, once you are on the page with all the episodes, just use the Jaws Find (F3) feature and type in episode 49 then press enter. It will put you right there. Let me know if that works for you. You also may want to start with Jonathan Mosen's FS Casts on iTunes. The demo is with Jaws 12 and iTunes 10, but even though things have changed in iTunes 11, you would still get a lot out of these especially if you enable the Side Bar in the View menu (Alt+V) or with the Control+s shortcut. Hi Jeff, As long as you enabled to sync via WiFi in iTunes you just have to make sure the ringtones are in your Tones library and that you have selected to either sync all ringtones or if you select to sync selected ringtones you have to make sure the ones you want to sync are checked. Re: question: checking in at home on Foursquare
Just double tap on check in and search for your house, such as Kathy's House. At the end of the search list, you'll have an unlabelled button, and right below that it'll say add this place so others can check in here. Just double tap on that unlabelled button, and you'll be taken to a dialogue where you will be able to create a new place in Four Square. I haven't done this myself, but I guess people may want to let people know when they're home, or they may want to let people check in when they come over for a party or to visit. Of course, there may be a good reason to this that I myself haven't thought of. RE: iTunes Library location?
Using that method, you probably want to make sure that the setting that copies the media to your library is not checked, other wise you can end up filling up your disc without realizing it. You also want to make sure that external drive letter doesn't change or you have to find it again or reload it. _ From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2012 11:56 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: iTunes Library location? Of all of the speakers that I have purchased, this speaker is the best. It is small in size, but is easy to use and have very good sound quality. On one side of the speaker, there is a slot that will hold your phone, and on the other side, there is a jack to plug the cable in that goes from the phone to the speaker, and next to that is a mini usb where the cable goes to charge the unit. And next to these two is a switch to turn your speaker on and off. The volume is controlled by your device, and I have cranked this unit up quite loud, and love the quality. Hi Liz, You may have to authorize your computer and this can be done in the store menu, Alt+S will get you there, then arrow down to the bottom of that menu. This makes iTunes 11 look more like iTunes 10 and many of the basic principals still apply. Re: ipad mini keyboard clicks?
I thought it sounded too quiet on occasions, but hadn't tracked it down to that. Can't get a grip on the mute button yet either, it's different too. But at least there's nmore keyboard to type on; digging under different character screens when asked for an url or email address sent me up the wall. So getting better now; and still tented to find 1 good bt keyboard. one good tactile overlay might do too; but can't find those yet either. As a point of interest, which direction is the commonest way to type on - portrait or landscape that is. I was trying thumb typing, need portrait for that as thumbs don't reach far enough. Re: using nook
Hi Heather, You need to set up an account on the bn website. Then you either acquire free nook books or purchase them using your pc or Mac and the vn site with your account that you just set up. Once you have books available, you sign in to the Nook app using the username and password you used when you registered on the bn website. Then you set the filter in the Nook app to all items or just books, if you didn't get any magazines, and you'll see all your available titles appear. Double tapping a title causes it to download. Once you're done, you can set that filter to downloaded items only. And to answer your other question, No, the Kindle app is definitely 100% not usable, and you can get your e-books with either the Nook or the iBooks apps for reading on the ios device. Streaming radio is basically unusable now, which is really a shame. I was going to post the exact same query to the lists and would be very curious to know if anybody has any solutions. The exact same networks (i.e. my WIFI network) seem to perform perfectly under any other circumstances. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. I was able to download the app, set it up and regester it. Now it is not speaking at all. But when I turn of vo, mom can see the screen etc. I wanted to know if the i books app will read e-books? I can get the books in that format instead of the kendle app. thanks Heather -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: using nook
You need to search for and purchase the books you want online. They will then automatically download into Nook. But when I search for a book, it says there are0 books. But when I search via the pc, a whole list comes up! Do I need to do more than hitting search in the app for the book?
