I would suggest upgrading Hyperterm to version 5. this will allow the
use of the break key in NT.

I had the same problem, so I copied the "terminal" program from an old workstation
(Win 3.11 I think!) and keep it around. It runs fine under NT, not sure about 2000.

The problem is probably with the version of hyperterm you're using. Get
teraterm or get update from MS site and control-break should then work.
