On my way to scope some waterfowl at Stagecoach Reservoir (Routt Co.) this
morning, I encountered a single waxwing that flew across the road as I
drove by. I found a safe place to park and discovered a large flock of
mixed waxwings with ~75 individuals. It was pretty evenly distributed, with
They are in trees in my area and even on the sidewalks on Lois Way this
morning according to one birder who is driving around the area looking at
them.
There are at least 150, probably more.
When it started raining harder, they disappeared into some junipers. Now

At least 200 Bohemian Waxwings were sitting in the top of a neighbor’s
cottonwood tree until 5 minutes ago. I heard them as I went out to get my
paper. They were stretching in the morning sun.
I live near the Police Station.
This may be as an underestimate!
They flew low north towards Via Appia
About a dozen Bohemian Waxwings were sitting in my neighbors’ cottonwood
tree at 6:00 pm today!
I recognized them by their calls. They flew to the east, towards Warembourg
Open Space.

While exploring a new trail, Rolling Creek, about a mile from trailhead,

Around 3:30 PM today I was at the mailbox and noticed a large flock of birds
fly over. They were the right size for Waxwings. So I rushed back to the house
and told my husband that we needed to take a drive in the neighborhood to the

We tried for the Bohemian Waxings this morning but no luck at the Mamie
Eisenhower Park. Then driving by the Wellshire Golf Course we noticed a
large flock on the SW side of the course from Hampden. We parked on the NW
side of the course in the residential area. This flock is likely the same

Cherry Hills Village in Arapahoe County. (Apologies to that person -- I

I have a 35' tall Washington Hawthorne tree with lots of ripe red berries
on it now. A few Cedar Waxwings have stopped by in the last week. Even a
bushtit flock has been eating the berries in preference to suet.

I took the family snowshoeing up to Guanella Pass, from the road closure to the
top of the pass. About half way up we encountered 14 Bohemian Waxwings working
through the conifers at about 11,300 feet. Also of interest was a Turkey
Vulture high above the pass and several Pine Grosbeaks. We
Saw roughly 25 (give or take 5) Bohemian Waxwings late Sunday afternoon,
3/25, driving south toward the summit of Hoosier Pass. Perching at tops of
trees--not terribly close since the trees were very high. I believe there
are three major hairpins on Colorado 9 above where I saw the birds. Point
I was hoping for Tree Swallows near Rollinsville or an Osprey at the
traditional nest site at Los Lagos at the Boulder/Gilpin county line on CO 119.
That didn't happen, so maybe an early Fox Sparrow? I stopped at my favorite
FOSP spot in Gilpin just east of Tolland on the Rollins Pass Road.
Today at 10:45, I discovered 6 Bohemian Waxwings along the entrance road to
Bobcat Ridge Natural Area southwest of Masonville. They were approximately
75-80 yards (half way between county road and the castle) from the main
county road. They were frequenting the tops of the budding trees along
Coincidentally and FYI, minutes before your post, someone on the WYObirds
Facebook page posted of seeing this morning a flock of 4K to 5K Bohemian
waxwings flying through in the Alta, WY area, on the Idaho border near
Grand Teton National Park.

new hatches are available on each sunny day. Almost any bridge over the Yampa

For what seems like the thousandth time we left home this morning to chase the
mythical Bohemian Waxwing. This time we headed north to Loveland and the
Simpson Ponds SWA.
After parking and speaking to two folks who just saw them before they flew
off we started walking

Park in Colorado Springs.

Roja, lots of American Robins, several Western Bluebirds, Western

two Bohemian Waxwings near Waneka Lake, where High Country Dr. intersects with
Waneka Lake Dr. The pair seemed completely free of concern regarding my
presence, as I watched them for a solid fifteen minutes

Went looking for the Waxwings yesterday with Rob King from Longmont, went
to Crane Hollow road with no luck so we went over to
Gunbarrell, the first office park off 63rd and Longbow was a cottonwood
tree with about 60-70 Bohemian Waxwings, drove a half block
west on Longbow to the Juniper bush
About 85 Bohemian Waxwings were on the SW corner of Spine and Orchard Creek
Lane in Gunbarrel just now (11:30 AM). No Cedars with them. Cole Wild
told me there were up to 500 Bohemians in this neighborhood yesterday.

Today at 12:30 pm, Diana King and I found the previously reported large flock
of Bohemian Waxwings in Niwot (thanks to general information from John
Vanderpoel). they were feeding on two berry trees and often coming down to
drink melting water on a driveway at 7152 Gold Nugget Drive, Niwot.
At 10:30 this morning a large flock of apparent Bohemian Waxwings (about
400 birds) flew over the road in front of my car. My looks were brief but
the lighting was excellent, and I was pretty sure of the ID, given the size
of the birds (large for waxwings) and their multicolored, dark-vented

lake to have a look around. The intersection of Drake and Lakeshore had
