Hello all. When I set a text field to Century Gothic, the text looks just
right.
Given that my user's machines may not have Century Gothic, I want to embed
the font in my movie. When I do so (either bitmap or otherwise), the Century
Gothic * version looks much worse. Ideas?
Thanks!

To be honest, though, unless you want editable text, the only benefit the
text member has is its convenience
Are you including anti-aliasing as a convenience? That's a pretty big one
for me.
I find your idea of using png files intriguing. I guess you couldn't do
much in the way of text
Antialiasing, in fact, is an absolute requirement for some of us
foreign-language users and odd-ball font users. The following little-known
phenomenon makes fields totally useless for half a dozen characters in the
upper half of one-byte character sets: they will not display at all unless

Slava, I liked your post--that is good info.
What has your experience been with Director 8 and 8.5 support for foreign
code pages? I know it was an issue with D7--it only had

Hi Pytkin.
I have never had a crash when selecting or embedding a font.
The problem with the national characters certainly is no Director
problem.
If the national characters work fine in any other program (MS-word for
example)
but not in Director, write your text in the other program, then copy

This is because Microshaft...sorry, I meant Microsoft use an entirely
different font size and generation routine to EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE

There are four exceptions to this: Arial, Tahoma, Verdana (the Mac version

namaste,
As Mr. Fiskeaux says, unless you have a compelling reason otherwise, the
thing to do is to embed the fonts in the director movie. then you don't
have to install the fonts on the system, you don't have to worry about
which fonts are on the system.
you still have to test cross-platform,
I'm also curious--are you developing on Greek Windows? Is your font a true
Greek font--i.e., does it use code page 1253? Director 7 dropped support
for code pages other than 1252 (Latin 1), and I'd be happy to find out
that they restored it in D8. I'd appreciate knowing
the system and version
Hello there !
Im have created a project with director 8 for PC. I have used embeded fonts.
These fonts are Greek. The same project must run on a Mac too. The problem
is that the font maping for Greek on the Mac is different to the one on the
PC . The result is that when the project runs on a
Good morning,
Herb should have the font you are looking for, I will call him today and pass the word
that you are looking for Helvetica 75, but you can e-mail him now and ask for it.
