I'm sure under Win 3.1 the defrag tool had an 'advanced' option where a graphic
(lots of squares) appeared. You could, if I remember, hover over a square and
it would tell you the file and highlight all the other fragments of thet file
too. Not any more.

Anyway, all slightly OT, so to get back on. I have, on many occasions, thought
of writing a defragger for the QL but the thought always comes to me "why?".
I've never come up with a good reason, so I haven't bothered. Lazy pr

Is that enough ?

this was, as you have found, because when you create the
files first and then convert to a directory, you get a seriously 'fragmented'
directory. The utility prevented that by rebuilding the structure first so that
the subsequent restore would put the files back into a directo
is
why they say it. They, on the other hand mean that 400 GB is 400 * 1000 * 1000
* 1000 bytes - so we lose out by using the correct numbers.
It is, basically, another sales con.
Of course, the capacity decreases when you format the disc as well (how did
they work out the unformatted capaci
ssume 3.5 m illion cartridges.
So, that's 1.75 million seconds, not including run up/run down and swapping
over time.
That works out at 29,166 minutes and 40 seconds. That is 486 hours, 6 minutes
and 40 seconds or 20 days 6 hours 6 minutes and

Spammers know this. When I first created the account many many years ago, I
logged on to find my first spam - literally 5 minutes after creating the
account. I still get lots of emails for 'george'. Still, the spam trap can get
at them easily !

So, Q40, even if not registered has been in use and Samsung could be asked to

more RAM the graphics get, the
less I have for the system.
At work I have a similar PC with 2G of RAM and that struggles to run VMWare as
well. With a Windows build it takes 20 minutes to load Windows. Completely
unworkable I'm afraid.

I know people here at work who use it from home, but they have huge amounts of
RAM and latest Code Duo processors etc etc - they can make it work, but they
too have pretty large load times. It could be down to the Windows build we use
here at the agency - slightly customised for 'security' purposes!

anyone have the calculation used by QDOS/SMSQ to convert a date from a long
to a string please. I know I can use the date conversion routines in
QDOS/SMSQ but I'm not actually working on that platform and I need to check
