seems to crash X.
I take it that means that switching to the text console and back by typing
Ctl + Alt + F1 then Ctl + Alt + F7 crashes X :-(
Are you running gpm (mouse support for linux text console) ?
It *may* help if that is configured to use IMPS/2 as well.

that flat panels may note need as long a horizontal blanking
time (fly-back) as CRTs. Does the DDC info in /vsr/log/XFree86.0.log
suggest any modelines that the monitor likes ?
Unfortunately XFree86 doesn't automatically use the modelines
provided by DDC.
