I've been on this list for quite some time now (mostly an observer) and have
noticed that nobody talks about sex and music on here. In fact, nobody
talks about sex and music hardly anywhere. This puzzles me somewhat, as I

Check out the gabber list -- where dudes jackhammer their hoes to 300bpm
speedcore.

Plus, I don't find detroit techno particularly sexy.

That does not compute. What's the frame of reference here?
Which not particularly sexy tracks are you thinking of?

Detroit is built upon soul music, arguably the most openly sexy
development in 20th century music. Add to that the fetish of
technology and futurism? mmm-mmm-mmm.

Of course sexiness is even more subjective than music, so
you choose your bpm, I'll choose mine.

(313) Entropia remix ep...

1999-09-21 Thread Lance @ Inaudible
Also out of the Ampnet-label camp comes the Entropia remix 12
called Imaginary Solutions out on the Rome-based Eclectic label.
This ep contains remixes of six tracks from the Imaginary
Solutions cd.

Supposedly the music on this ep and the Imaginary Solutions
cd is used for the choreography of In-qui-é-tu-de by Carlos
Bernardo of the company Nomades/Le laft vevey, Switzerland.

For those who dont know, Entropia is an experimental project
combining electronic and acoustic sounds. Within Entropia's
sound there is a mix of different musical languages - from
experimental ambient to psychedelic jazz-rock, from trip hop
to industrial techno. Entropia's music is the product of the
sounds of the post-industrial era, the mix of the numerous
musicians involved, and unique electronic noises.

Release infos:
. Entropia: Imaginary solutions remix 12 (Eclectic 03)
Tracks:
 - Recycle with Amptek: TNK
 - Zyggurat Vertigo: ignore undo
 - Seekness: propositi di annientamento (in-qui-é-tu-de)
 - D'Arcangelo: information
 - Passarani 2099: Q.B.F.
 - A.D.C.: tribals two

My early opinion is that most of the tracks on this ep
have a very dark ethno-electronic feel. some tracks are
accented by dubby basslines others by muted breakbeats
and others by spacious ambient strings. After a few short
listens my favorites on this ep are the Seekness, D'Arcangelo,
and Passarani 2099 mixes.

Press release comments on this one:
 - Recycle with Amptek: TNK
An industrial trip-hope remix of the TNK Dub track. A song
that uses some samples from Tomorrow Never Knows from
the 1966 Beatles album Revolver. Recycle are Emilio Loizzo
and H501L.

 - Zyggurat Vertigo: ignore undo
Techno drimming on ambient pads with middle-east suggestions
for this version of Ignore Undo by Ziggurat Vertigo. Ziggurat
Vertigo is the dance side project of Entropia.

 - Seekness: propositi di annientamento (in-qui-é-tu-de)
Atmospheric percussions in an industrial ambient environment
on Propositi Di Annientamento remix of Seekness from the
Reload Ambient label.

 - D'Arcangelo: information
A nervous breakbeat mix for Information with caustic sounds by
Fabrizio Marco D'Arcangelo from Rephlex records.

 - Passarani 2099: Q.B.F.
Ambient noises on a tribal breakbeat for a Q.B.F. original version
by Passarani 2099. PSS2099 is a renown artist in the italian
experimental scene from Nature records.

 - A.D.C.: tribals two
Acoustic percussions in this version of Tribal Two by the
industrial duo A.C.D.. This mix is a strange combination of
tribal percussions and electronix noises.

And there you have it!

It's all a matter of taste. Maybe in some vague sense detroit techno is
sexy -- kinda like a Pulp Fiction sexy: it has elements of class and
danger -- maybe staring at a vouge looking chick smoking a cig, sipping on

all the tracks from the album are gonna be released on vinyl and it will

if there is any place left well try to throw in some new tracks...at least i
want to. it´s gonna
be released as 3 singles and probably just follow the tracklisting on the
cd.

ps. i don´t either own a may single, it´s not painfully i´m admitting this,
i see it as an interesting
thing where music of the same vibe and spirit can be done on the other side
of the atlantic without
even being exposed to the original.

out in five minutes, or you can make it last, slowly
evolving with the subleties--building up until you just
can't take anymore and then relaxing. I'd prefer the
latter--you gotta treat your lover right. ;)
(I don't want any emails for that one!)

Re: SV: (313) Sex and Music

1999-09-21 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Sexuality, emotions, spirituality and music are all part of the same grand
matrix.

If you talk Detroit music (or just music) to Derrick, Stacey or Carl,
anyone, I've found, sexuality, emotional expression and spirituality will
all come up at at point or another.

A lot of women love the music of Derrick and Stacey especially because it
seems to encompass both masculine and feminine elements. I guess Mills'
music is more obviously masculine and aggressive but his stuff has a sexy
hip-swaggerin' grind that some girls would like. (For example,
Purposemaker's Outsiders is the bomb.) As a DJ he appears aggressive but by
contrast he also exudes an incredible grace and majesty and that is
captivating, moving and sexy. I think this is part of his subconscious
appeal to clubbers of both genders.

Some DJs actually structure their sets along what could be described as a
sexual curve with your foreplay, build, etc. Except there are multiple
climaxes, I guess, in an extended set.

I was amused when Jeff did his photographic Purposemaker exhibition of what
constitutes a DJ and left out three components, one of which you can't
represent. The soul (which you can't photograph), the heart (you could
x-ray) and something that he'd probably be (understandably) too modest to
depict.

hey--

just picked up a cd of kraftwerk's live set at 97 tribal gathering..

bits of the set are missing (including man machine, damn!)--anyway, at the end
of the cd there is a trance mix of tour de france that is down right
terrible.
i'm wondering who might be responsible for this remix. the cd has no info
whatsoever. i was fortunate enough to be at that show, so i know that the
rest of the cd is legit (i'm sure i heard my own voice screaming among 4000

1999-09-21 Thread Maris Grinvalds
dear people,

think what you want of how sexy is detroit music, but here's what a man had
said some time ago:

 skip now i
can say that some folks were overdoing alcohol, and some used way too much
marijuana, but those individuals stood out. they were accepted, but they
were not the norm. the sex. yeah, that, you might say, was out of control,
but again, that was the scene that I and a lot of us in detroit came
from. ask detroit folks about the origins of techno and the amount of sex
that was going on. what i'm saying is that yes, there are abuses in my
techno scene as well skip

I am not sure what's available as far as billeebob is concerned.
I know that he developed some strong live P.A. work that
premiered (I believe)at Pontiac's Velvet Lounge, and more
recently (but still some time ago)at a Po Boy party at Packard.
His productions are likely to come out under the names Herzen
Hiz or the more recent F:am

Word is, he's also been working on the follow up issue of his
well-regarded F:am zine project from last year.

Paris the Black Fu has been featured on Throw 002 Paris the
Black Fu vs. Jock Cousteau EP. Available through Record Time
(and I think Sonic Groove in NY). His underground bomb
Sandwiches is planned for release on Throw 003. Both of these
are also available on a limited promo CD.

For the last two years, Paris has honed his skills in the DnB
realm. His Crane Technique mix CD was in the bin at Record
Time last time I rolled through. Intense, dark, cuisinart
breaks.

E-mail me for contact details.

Still waiting for the Heckle Jeckle reunion tour...

I know of two new mixes of Tour De France in circulation on vinyl: the Kling

I should think that the latter is not responsible for no trance, though. Mr
K is a man of tstae.

Hope this helps a little.

The trance remixes I've heard in the past were featured on the Kraftwerk

Actually their first live set was at 3 Floors of whor..er...Fun, back in
late 95. I have a very distinct memory of Paris carrying an R8mk2 up the
stairs and how impressive it looked to me at the time. John Williams
also played a set at Exat at Zoots I would like to say sometime in 1997.

John Williams also collaborated with Dale Lawrence on Graviti, on the
first Theorem LP on Plus8.
It was one of the strongest tracks on that album. I have also heard a
bit of gossip that he has a couple mixes floating around for a TH remix
project, but I think Dale might be the guy to ask about this.

The idea of making music that in some way related to a sense of
place-landscape or environment-had occurred to me many times over the
last 12 years. My conscious exploration of this way of thinking probably
began with Another Green World in 1975. Since then I have become
interested in exaggerating and inventing rather than replicating spaces,
and experimenting with various techniques of time distortion.
