[313] Kenny Larkin in SF, Dec 8th 2001
Hello everyone! I just wanted to post advance warning for those who live in or near the SF area, or who will be in the area around the time of December 8th. Kenny Larkin will be playing a 3 hour set for the new monthly incarnation of our party, Sex In Zero Gravity. Its at an intimate space in SOMA called the Border Cantina, and we will be going all night. I'm sure you're all familiar with Kenny, so I'm not including the bio in this post. :) Kenny will be supported by the Sex In Zero Gravity residents, myself (Eli B) and James Dee. This event is VERY LIMITED CAPACITY. The Border Cantina can't hold that many people. To guarantee admission, we will be selling presale tickets at BPM Records in San Francisco and Primal Records in Berkeley. Presales will be available Monday November 19th. Be sure to purchase your tickets early as this event will sell out in advance. The Border Cantina is located at 1192 Folsom St (@8th) in San Francisco. The party is open from 10pm to 5am and is 21+. [313] sample stuff
funsters how do artists release records that contain samples without paying the copyright owners? i was just looking through the sample pages at forcefield and i'd be surprised if kdj paid to use samples of chic, ewf, george benson, sister sledge, or marvin gaye, or if theo parrish paid the last poets and sly stone, well, his estate anyway. i'm sure the authorised use of these samples would be way too expensive for small labels. keen to hear from anyone out there with experience in releasing anything with unauthorised samples. thanx. p-dogg - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [313] sample stuff
a lot of the time, its not about money. most people I know don't charge for samples. and if they do, well.. there are lots of other sounds that don't cost money :) -Joe -- R17 is not a fixed velocity, but it is clearly far too fast. -- - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 11:33 PM Subject: [313] sample stuff funsters how do artists release records that contain samples without paying the copyright owners? i was just looking through the sample pages at forcefield and i'd be surprised if kdj paid to use samples of chic, ewf, george benson, sister sledge, or marvin gaye, or if theo parrish paid the last poets and sly stone, well, his estate anyway. i'm sure the authorised use of these samples would be way too expensive for small labels. keen to hear from anyone out there with experience in releasing anything with unauthorised samples. thanx. p-dogg - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] Re: sample stuff
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: sample stuff how do artists release records that contain samples without paying the copyright owners? If you're selling 1000-2000 copies, its not profitable for a major to chase you down - you won't be able to pay it and they waste time and money in the process. I've heard of majors ringing up small labels/artists that have sampled something, asking how many copies they are doing and then the major will just tell them to keep the number of copies under a certain level - and thats it. However, if your record blows up and starts getting big attention (and/or sales), they might decide its in their financial interests to then chase you. Or if you flaunt it, they might make an example of you. But then V/Vm are still going :) || [CiM] || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || http://www.warmdata.net/ _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You have to release something big enough to attract record company or the original artist's attention to get into trouble. The world of Moodyman and the world of WEA and Sony are so far apart, he could keep sampling for years and they'd never know what he's up to. What about DJ Shadow? He has so much Stanley Clarke on Endtroducing that he should be paying him as a sideman. Moodyman also uses samples in a creative way -- it's not like puff daddy ganking a whole hook from and 80s song in order to give his tracks pop credibility. Until and unless you sign with a major, no one worries too much about sample clearance. Then the record company has to cover its ass, and they'll make you pay for any samples you have to clear... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The 21/22 Corporation label as well, although those are probably going to be hard to find, but check Round Table Distribution http://www.roundtablemusic.com/index1.html These are all more or less towards the techno/electronic side of things, stuff that's more in Metro-Area-style would be anything (and I mean absolutely anything!) by Daniel Wang, both on Environ as well as his now defunct Balihu label. Also recommended is the dL label (DownLow) and $tinkworx' EPs, although jt himself thinks it isn't in a similar style, I think it is, so there :) Oh, and by the way Environ Records is from New Jersey. Re: [313] Environ Records
There is a Daniel Wang on Playhouse that I picked up @ 23rd Precinct in Glasgow that is excellent. I can't remember the name (records not with me) but it was a collaboration. Low tempo house with a generous amount of electro (or maybe it is the other way 'round). mek Otto [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: 313@hyperreal.org urist.orgcc: Subject: Re: [313] Environ Records 11/20/01 08:43 AM Gerald wrote: Here are a few labels you should check out off the top of my head: Residual, Starbaby, Metamorphic. [313] A proper intro and a request for critique
Ladies, gentlemen, articulated welding arms, lend me your earholes. *cough* Er, anyhow, I joined 313 about a month ago after years of putting it off, and just wanted to introduce myself and my quite amateur music. I've been listening to Detroit techno since I was fourteen (which admittedly wasn't that long ago), and plugging away at my own tracks since I got my first computer (a 386 with eight megs of RAM, a mono sound card, and a copy of Scream Tracker). Fave noise makers are Mills, Craig, von Oswald, Morganstern, Wang, Brikha, and Bell. If anybody has some time to kill and wouldn't mind giving me some feedback, I've just uploaded my latest to the following URLs: http://www.bprince.com/bp_blueVinyl.mp3 (160 kbps, 6.2 megs) http://www.bprince.com/bp_bluePreview.mp3 (96 kbps, 3.7 megs) Its 5:12 long, and starts off a bit sullen and Kompakt-esque, but it gets more this-listy towards the middle. Any comments are much appreciated, as techno-receptive heads are hard to find here in Utah. May the spirit of the jaguar bless your dance floor. - Brian balistic Prince http://www.bprince.com - art and techno - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] Record Info
Hi there, I picked up a record about a year ago in Holland on BPM Records- a French label by the looks of things- called The correct use of Techno- Vol1- A decade of Detroit Music. It's a strange affair with tracks from R-Tyme (Use Me Carl Craig mix), The Electric Company (Bob Leonarduzzi, Zach Roberts and Eddie Watson), Resse and Santonio (Truth of Self Evidence) and Keith Tucker (Emerald World)- and I rushed home excitedly to put my new found gem on the turntable. Unfortunately the guy in the store had put the wrong record in the sleeve and I was flying back to Scotland the next day. I only recently checked out the record in the sleeve to find that out that I had a different volume of the same series and that this one had tracks by John Tejada, Teknotika, Santonio Echols and others. Which finally brings me to my point- does anybody know who would have put these records together and what is on the other volumes? There is a little speech at the bottom of the sleeve-- I should thanx so many people for their support If I forget any one I should thank no one, except Mad Mike for his help (and his letters), Chez Damier cause he knows what love is. A special thanx to my Daddy who gave me peace, strength and tranquility and the brand new B.P.M Dream Team Sylvian, Jerome, Eric. Stop to waste your time with drugs!! I know what I'm talking about SR So, who is our mysterious, drug hating label boss with so many heavy name Techno-bods to call his friend??? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated Cheers Jason Brunton Iridite - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
