Re: (313) [Industry Death - John Popovich]
...that was considered outragous at the time. Oh how time's change. I remember when promoters in detroit had to get oked by the local gangs because of territory and whatnot. Anyone remember some of the shootings that happened? all the best to John and all his loved ones in this time of passing and reflection. diana --- Carissa Tintinalli [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: An amusing story about John, 313 techno and nothing to do with Racist Ruins of Detroit (sorry Devolve, you can use this as a bathroom break) John once told me a story about one of the first parties he helped throw way back in the early 90s (I'm thinking '91 or '92). Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva were on the lineup, and he paid Acquaviva $250, and Richie got a whopping $175. There was also something about Richie getting mad because they were charging people $10 to get in, and apparently that was considered outrageous at the time. Re: (313) New Kraftwerk album, my 1st impression...
It's funny you should mention this since I was part of the minority that slammed this album for what it's worth: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/classicpop/reviews/kraftwerk_france.shtml I was highly disappointed to say the least what with the nostalgic sound that doesn't seem to progress any further than ex-frontman Karl Bartos Wolfgang Flür's transcendental flourishing from the mid seventies which made Kraftwerk so prolific. Probably setting myself up for a serving here, but I was really disappointed with the new Kraftwerk album. It seemed to be devoid of all that intricate percussion and rhythms of previous albums and more of an exploration into soft synth patches. They have definitely stripped back on this album. Maybe I should listen to it again, but my first impression isn't the best. What the hell happened to: I love you all equally :) ? man, I take offense to your posting a website because you didn't **first check out what the content of the website was**, and going to that website pissed me off to no end, and now you can't handle the flack you're getting for such a stupid move - so now *you're* the one wishing *me* bad tidings? Where the f*ck do you get off being pissed off at me? Seriously, I said my peace on it but then you dragged me back into it by treating me like I'm the one who offended you on a public forum. You have some nerve. So I'm telling you EXACTLY what I'm feeling - you ready? I didn't want to get into it anymore - thinking you might have figured out what a f*ck-up it was posting that link without fully checking it out first but obviously you still haven't because you haven't REALLY apologized for it. Sure, you've put a disclaimer on it: I did not, nor do I now, intend any aspect of this thread to be an affront to any race. That's not really an apology. An apology would look a little bit more like this: I'm sorry, I'm such an idiot for posting a link to a hostile and offensive website that I didn't take the time to look at before-hand. I apologize if this has offended anyone. Please do not visit this website as it may further boost this guys confidence in his mission to oppress other people. From now on I will fully check out a website before I post a link to it. Even a Oops, sh*t, I'm really sorry about that would have been good. In my book - so dont look at the text - just doesn't cut it. And, no, I won't give you any slack on this because I don't think you've earned it. Jim I'd take this off list but since you posted public so will I just to keep things straight a synopsis - 1. r3dshift posts a link to a racist website to the 313-list without checking to see exactly what the website was really about 2. I, not knowing what the link is but assuming it's about techno since it was posted on the 313-list, go to the website 3. I get pissed off and write a short reply 4. r3dshift gets other offended replies in addition to mine 5. I say I'm stepping back off the thread since I said what I wanted to say and I don't want to get in a flame war (trying to use some humor about it) 6. r3dshift tells publicly me that he'd like me to take a fatal dose of drugs (xanax and alcohol is a lethal combination) 7. I decide at that point that I will let r3dshft know what I was really thinking about his intelligence and forethought 8. you call me a wimp let me know where I went wrong now I really am done with this topic MEK Jim Bishop [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: 313@hyperreal.org cc: Subject: Re: (313) the ruins of detroit (racist bullsh.t) 08/19/03 09:41 PM I support posting the site 100%. i like this topic! let's see, my family room studio. go tannoy! its a good thing that my monitors (pbm 6.5) reach their limits not too far above the average person's pain threshold (but not mine!) or my hearing would be worse than it is. call me musically masochistic... my busted a$$ buick. go factory system! i really hate the fact that they implemented automatic, non-defeatable compression in the stock gm systems. i don't care if i blow the bloody speakers, i'd rather buy new ones than be forced to listen to my tunes at weeniebutt levels... anywhere i bring my headphones. go sennheiser! i managed to accidentally twist the wire out of the right can, so i've been borrowing my pal's sony cans. repeat after me: shrill... bar rumba. go compost! i had my broken beat baptism there thanks to the compost crew. the red square vodka made me happy. wish we had it here. good times fa sho... i really miss listening to music on the dot busses. go smelly weirdos, rowdy young punks, and overwhelming stench of exhaust! ahh, yes. fond memories of bumping early native tongues releases on the way to school... jph +++ jason hogans (:brownstudy) chief nice guy [EMAIL PROTECTED] +++ really nice recordings, l.l.c. http://www.homepage.mac.com/reallynice/

oh well, just need to invent a very small headphone amp and clean up! :) (this thing is ok but too big: http://www.boostaroo.com/, any electronics wizzes tell me how to build one?) Depending on how anal you are to the sound quality a battery, a couple transistors biased and impedence matched to to your player, a placcy case and conenctors would do the trick - shouldnt be too hard to find a schematic on the web - would probs only cost you a few pounds/dollars max as well ! I'm going deaf i am the total opposite really. while i like standing right next to the speakers, i wear heavy duty earplugs. its the feeling of the bass that gets me. when im at home, i listen to music at a pretty low volume, and when im messing around in the studio, i keep my monitors turned way way down. when i deejay at a club i always turn the monitor volume way down so that i dont have to pump the headphone volume. i like my hearing, im planning on it lasting till i die. tom andythepooh.com

Main venue is my commuter car, since I live in apartments. I've got a Kenwood head unit, four 6.5 Kenwood two-ways, and a 1000-watt Kenwood amp pushing an MTX Thunder 8000 in a sealed box. This is in a Geo Metro hatchback, mind you. The system's worth more than the car. I call it the Metroplex. At home I've got standard-issue bachelor house speakers in the living room, but in my studio I've got a pair of Alesis M1 Active Mk2 monitors. Probably some of the best-sounding speakers I've heard. I can almost forgive them for being ported. -- Brian balistic Prince http://www.bprince.com - art and techno

(313) Shattered Dreams
£15.99 is a lot to pay for a one-sided slab of vinyl. Before it appeared on the Peacefrog site, I was really hesitant to even support a limited to 400 pressing, but that was before I actually *could* get it, and before I heard the album. I had my reservations about this purchase up through about the 3 minute mark, thinking 'this is nice, but nothing that couldn't have found its way onto the album', and then it broke down, and rides like that for a really long time, not unlike the feel of 'Love and War' when it settles into itself, and I was sold. It's still a lot to pay for this track, but I'm of the mind that you can't put a price on a good record, and this is definitely a good record. As good as any track on the album, and more 'Theo' in a Moodymann way than any of the other album tracks, if that's your thing. Definitely listen before you buy though. Peacefrog order #1, Shattered Dreams copy 052/400 - slightly warped. :( Report on that (not new) Wayne Gardner record in a few minutes. Not Wayne Gardiner's finest moments, but nice for any one else, and Rapid Winds Part 2 is the one that actually lives up to his elevated standard. It's also a nice middle ground between his older stuff and the newer stuff on Spiritual Life/Natural Resource. The killer is the Dan Curtin remix of To Be Free Again, which is epic, lush, punchy and has a nice surprising bit of vocal that comes in at the end. Definitely one of Curtin's best efforts. Snatch it up if they still have copies on the Peacefrog site. Interesting that this was released in conjunction with Metamorphic, and has a little Metamorphic symbol on it. Never seen Peacefrog do that before. Tristan === Text/Mixes/Pics: http://www.phonopsia.co.uk Music: http://www.mp313.com Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

hey all, i have recently ran in to some problems with some online record orders. I ordered some wax a 1200 light bulb from planet x and they did not have the wax and wanted to charge me crazy shipping on the 1200 light bulb, i asked if i could cancell the order and they said they have a restock fee. i thought this odd. i have only encountered a restock fee on items that have been shipped out and returned not on items that have not even been inside of a package, let alone shipped. i ordered a bunch records directly from schematics records in flordia. i have been waiting since beginning of june, have emailed them several time and they never reply (i am sending these to three of there public addresses). i heard that the label was going through hard times on soulseek in the electro chat room. does anyone know if they are still in business? either way i am not buying any wax on line for a while. any advice would be nice thanks -scotto lansing, mi. plaztikjezuz.com

funsters i recently bought a copy of the be music (new order) productions that appeared mostly on factory between '82 and '85. some of it is pretty cool and still sounds OK, tho a lot of it has dated badly. actually it probably wasn't that good at the time either, more to the point. the 52nd st tracks are a lot of fun and very cool and the least dated. the section 25 stuff is generic electroesque, quando quango is complete and utter cheese. legendary or not, it sounds like a yazz record. thick pigeon is nice strange. http://www.ltmpub.freeserve.co.uk/ltmnews.html p
