My guess is that we'll start seeing even more artists getting denied entry
into the U.S. Hopefully this won't affect Movement anymore, but I wouldn't
be suprised if it did.

The INS announced a couple of months ago that it was going to get stricter
with work visas for artists and entertainers. They feel that this would be
an easier route for terrorists to enter the country, seeing as the
requirements aren't as strict as those to obtain a permanent work visa
(i.e.
needing a college degree or official certification in your field).

But even beyond those reasons, the INS has more power than many realize to
deny people, and for a variety of reasons. If Ellen Allien had even some
misdemeanor charge for jaywalking on her record, they could use that as
reason to turn her back. Actually, they don't even need a reason. They

Re: (313) Stacey Pullen Australasian Dates

2004-05-17 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Good question. By co-ordinating dates across Asia. Usually they tie in with
Singapore as we are very close culturally and there's a lot of exchange as
well as Japan. Then all the promoters contribute to flight share.
If you get Australia, you can get NZ or vice versa. Almost all the promoters
here have contacts in Asia. It's still hard to make money at times... ;)
Sponsorship helps.

are you saying anyone who uses real sounds in music that is electronic-jazz
minded is ripping off UR? LOL

the machines being used to make techno were originally made to reproduce
real sounds without having to have 10 people there to play each instrument.

a 909 has a bass drum, hi hats, snare, etc. just like a real drum kit.
technology limited their ability to pull off an accurate representation and
as these machines gave way to sampling devices, their prices fell as did
their demand. at this point, people started picking them up for making all
kinds of electronic music (and others no doubt), and things kind of built on
that. at some point sounding "wrong" got cool and now the synth market is
in the process of doing a 180 to catch up.

look at the old ultramarine albums if you want some heavy mixture of
synthetic and real sounds in a jazzy/electronic vein. your assertion that
someone who uses "real" sounds in tracks will be biting from UR is just
silly.

the music has existed as long as the gear has, but it seems its just never
been marketed in a way that has caught your attention

perhaps I misunderstand you, but at the very least, your original statement
could stand some clarification

just out of curiosity, how do promoters in australia cover their costs?

it must be expensive to fly someone to the land of roos, plus the artist

I've heard the events there are pretty cozy too, so just being curious.

Strange that the list should have such a short memory - admittedly for
someone 313-related who's that bit more obscure.

What does Kenny Larkin say about Kelvin Larkin? :"My buddy, friend,
twin brother and occasional hoe, Kelvin Larkin." (sleeve notes for
'Seven Days' by Dark Comedy.)

They're more than usually close. It makes sense that they're involved
in each other's business at least to a degree. But I remember about a
couple of years ago both Kelvin and Kenny Larkin were booked as
residents at a series of parties in Los Angeles for a fairly long run
in the summer. And at that time there was no mention of Kelvin Larkin
making any sort of debut at those parties. It was assumed (by those who
had not before realized he that he was also a dj) that he was already a
dj of many years experience. This still seems correct now.

Out current single (Detour "Tension EP"

heavy rotation by Marco Carola, Josh Wink, Michel de Hey and Carl Cox and
others. It is also featured on Michel de Hey's mixcd for Trust The DJ, and
on "Impulz: innocense is no excuse", the double CD that accompanied the
Impulz Winter Gathering last January.

Carl Cox has also announced that he is going to put "Tension" on his mixcd
for MixMag, which will come out within the next few months. He already put
the track on his top 10 of march:

how is it silly? most synthetic sounds havent tried to
sound "real" in the context of techno music. if you look at like
new age or something else, youll hear alot of it. in the meantime
theyre making fully synthesized tracks that they call "live"

Sometimes looking up lyrics on the net makes them look silly, for example,
from "Change Clothes":

Uh, uh (Sexy sexy) Woo! (Ah ah!!!)
Uh huh (Sexy sexy) It's so necessary right) (Ah ah!!!)
Uh huh, woo! (Sexy sexy) That's right it's a groove (Ah ah!!!)
Uh huh, it's a groove (Sexy sexy) bring it back (Ah ah)

Which makes Jay-Z sound like the Cheeky Girls.

I don't think they really lay "claim" to that sound. It seems to me that
they are paying homage to many musical flavors collected over a lifetime
of listening. It's unique in the sense that, when it's all put together,
it sounds rather different and unique and forward looking in a retro
kind of a way. Disco, Boogie, Italo, House, Detroit, etc. are the
musical roots of their sound and the tree gives off some rather nice
fruit.

If you put a gun to my head and asked me to finger someone for helping
to expose that whole 70's/early 80's thing to an influential producer
audience, one might pick Danny Wang. He was putting out these quirky
disco-esque records, often at very slow bpms (relative to the current
dancefloor shtick at the time) back in the early nineties way before it
was fashionable to do so. While you were dancing to Charly, he was
releasing "Like Some Dream I Cant Stop Dreaming".

If you look at their catalogue you will find that their stuff is already
quite musical. Violins, vocals, etc...it's all in the mix so to speak.
Better we should let the artists take us where they may

I'm pretty sure it was Live in LA 1998 (not the version of Silence in

OK, had a quick Google. So with the Electrifyin' Mojo samples its J.A.N.
and without its Live in LA 1998... right?

AW: (313) Workout Tracks

2004-05-17 Thread Katrin Richter
I don't work out. I go in clubs and dance. Which makes me get drenched in
sweat. I tried to go to a gym but it bored me to death.
Even with a music playing device I could not entrance myself to the degree I
didn't know how I got there. So I started doing sports outdoors. With real
people.

It'd have to be some Funk/Deeon - Shake what yo mama gave ya !

I have to confess I have actually listened to ghetto in a gym before - makes
the whole experience a lot more amusing :)

I second that...
Excellent tracks within different dimensions of deep Techno Soul!

Anyone bought the new Downlow release by Iridite Productions?
At least two essential tracks on it.

You can dance in your house - I often find the music
better there than in clubs anyway ;-)

I dont but if I did I think I would look for
inspiration (not just for working out but for getting
it over with as quickly as possible...)

Sinitta - So Macho
Fat Boys - wipeout

and for the ladies anything from Iron Maiden

;-))

Cheers

Well, I played with him and Stewart Walker in Iowa City in '99, so it wasn't
his first public performance. I'd be *really* surprised if that was his
first too.

Working out is for the people who can't dance!
[Ken Odeluga]

Rubbish! Working out is for people who can dance and want to be fit enough
to dance all night!

Naturally, I use the gym as an excuse to keep listening to rough, hard,
minimal techno in my old age.

That 'Caught In The Act' mix by Rob Hood on Logistic is a fave.
