Hey Philip, all the tracks are just called Oasis 1, Oasis 2, Oasis 3, Oasis 4 etc - not very imaginative but its all good stuff- very moddy, hypnotic, House/Techno stuff. cheers Jason On 18 Jan 2005, at 07:07, Philip wrote: Funsters Does anyone have a tracklist for the omar-s shadow ray album? (313) Mole Records Heads Up
Hiya- I've been surprised by the quality of the releases I've heard on Mole records recently- its CJ Bolland's label and would appeal to anyone who liked the earlier Luke Slater releases on Peacefrog- fairly old-school 92 Techno, percussive but still musical in places, beefy production and MILES better than the sub-Heavy Metal guitar oriented bollox he was doing for the last few years cheers Jason

I seem to recall hearing a gig from Isolee and I know I recorded it to tape. I'll have to dig it up but the gig will be over by then. I can say the tape stayed in my car's deck for a good long time. I wouldn't miss this show. If I recall - it was a pretty melodic set, not very clicky at all. There was a weird thing about it - seems like he would bring in one track panned hard to the left or right and as he faded out the first track he would pan to the opposing side. Made it sound like the incoming track was forcing the fading track out of the speakers. Was interesting to hear. I'll see if I can find the tape - I think it was recorded off of Beta Lounge so you could check there. MEK Derek Plaslaiko. Dont think anything has been made public yet but Kirk did put this in a post on LD a while back which gives artist names at least BTW - if I may I 've got a little bit of exciting news. After 10 yrs or so ART is again about to release a compilation - this time in conjunction with New Religion. Should see the light of day in early 05 and the line-up is insane... Ian O'Brien, NewWorldAquarium, Mark Pritchard (yes, doing techno), Balil (yes, NEW Balil material), Carl Craig, and I'm trying to get Derrick to dig out an old 16 trk of an unreleased masterpiece he did way back when, Juan Atkins and I've even asked some of the bruk beat guys to submit some techno - more news when its all confirmed - hopefully we'll organise a clubnight to launch it all, etc. Anyway - enough of the techno-spam... I think there's a Vinyl Fetish on Melrose as well but i aint never been thar. Music equipment: definitely Black Market Music on La Cienega, West Hollywood. It's a used gear place but almost always home to some unusual find; great place to browse. West LA Music, on Santa Monica Blvd in (you guessed it) West LA. Excellent place for new stuff, good people. Know the price of whatever you're shopping for before you go in and they'll match it. And if you're feeling very motivated, Big City Music (bigcitymusic.com) in Studio City has a lot of analog and unusual stuff. Seeing as I'm a lot more Irish than Greg is Scottish, there's lots of places to celebrate alcoholism but I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding bars. Clubs nearly all suck. And that also depends on where you're staying. LA is not what you'd call small. -garrett Jason Brunton [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 01/17/2005, 08:12:04 PM: Hey Gregg- yah we are coming over for NAMM- me and Wilba (who is the owner of Rubadub)- excellent work on the party info- thanks a lot- I'm sure we'll make enough trouble of our own at these places anyway! Maybe we could meet up for a beer (or whiskey as you are 1/8th Scottish!)?? (I'm a full 1/4 Irish too, Garrett ... grandmother was born there :) ) That's the key thing (and why I'm posting to the list, and not just to Jason privately, in case anyone else is coming here to NAMM) - depends on where you're staying and LA is not what you'd call small. Specifically - NAMM is held down in Anaheim, home of Mickey Mouse and the Rally Monkey (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim baseball team). Presumably most out of towners will stay near the conference location which basically means that you are a 30-45 minute drive from downtown LA and Hollywood (respectively), and that's a *minimum* - no traffic. (Which only exists late at night, like when you're returning to your hotel.) That's why I asked when you were getting into town, Jason - because if you're just nipping in for a few days and are staying down in Anaheim, unless you're comfortable renting a car and putting up with massive traffic snarls, getting up into town to go record hunting or gear snooping or gig going is a veritable nightmare. Hopefully you guys will give yourselves a few days before and after to get over jet lag and get your arses out of Anaheim to be closer to said record/gear/club locations after NAMM's over ... Hit me back privately for contact info for the 3 of us ... - Greg

but you are incorrect. usually searching nirvana on soulseek yeilds thousands of hits. but not this most recent time, indicating that either a) everyone deleted nirvana off their hard drives, b) there's been a mass exodus of people no longer using slsk, or c) that something is not functioning as usual. my guess is C and i know this debate is boring as heck for most of you, i just wish people would read post more carefully before getting snippy On Mon, 17 Jan 2005, David Gillies wrote: And my point was that soulseek is the wrong network to be testing with something huge like Nirvana. Re: (313) P2P Future
The only way forward I can see for artists is this: 1. Give away lossy digital copies of your music, as promotion. 2. Emphasize the audio quality of the 'real thing' -- the paid for copy. 3. Make sure the physical object you're selling adds value over the digital copy -- either by adding tracks, attractive packaging, or some sort of unique value you don't get downloading it digitally. 4. Perform live, or DJ or do something where you're selling a unique event that can't be endlessly reproduced and distributed over the internet. I like the idea of #3 very much - vinyl only tracks would be a welcome change from CD only tracks plus well designed packaging is always encouraged. Little pluses are so cool - buy a 12 to find a sticker slipped inside. It's fairly common in rock music to find little things like record label logos on a sticker - why not dance music 12? Now, a lot of musicians have found, of necessity, that a much larger percentage of their income will have to come from playing in front of people. or licensing their tracks. MEK
