and on Saturday 23 April, Derrick's playing in Sydney.

As well as being the innovator, is the man also the teleporter now?

It used to be the Camden Palace, so it's pretty big and decced out like a
ballroom inside. The nearest tube is Mornington Crescent. Should be a laugh
to see how this night turns out - I can imagine the venue being quite well
suited to an evening of May/Brikha, but have a few misgivings about the
walk-past crowd Koko is likely to attract...

As someone who has been to Sonar 4 times, I couldn't possibly disagree
more. Barcelona is absolutely magical at that time of year. The
festival itself may have gone downhill during the last 6 years since I
first went, but it's not just about the festival - it's like drugs,
set setting is the key ...

And as for the pay-to-play thing, I know several people that have
played at Sonar (the Plug Research guys, John Tejada) and will ask
them the next time I see them if they got paid, got nothing, or had
to pay to play.

(That said, I bet the lineups at Mutek and the Synch festival outside
Athens will be better than Sonar's.)

(313) new records

2005-04-01 Thread ryan burns

im calling it today, the best stuff to hit the techno circit just heard the
new elektrabel 'For Various Reason' double EP. its a smashing hit also for
those who like techno to fans that like it slow and funky. submerge just
posted it.
also i heard the new kenny larkin LP and its SICK kenny is a true
master. i have no idea why people on the last LP even attempted to dislike
it. i liked the intro. it thought tracks on the C and D side were
innovative. fresh and classic. i mean you listen the the seemingly slow
tracks on the inside of side B and D they form a rhythm and a bpm that
matches dan bell and cabanne and so.

Can anyone tell me more and recommend me some definitive releases?

Unfortunately Fab, you need them all.

Bite the bullet!

first 2 are more 'straight up' deep house. Round 3 was Acting Crazy, which
sees them veering off into deeper/abstract territory, and from there on in,
they get deeper, and more abstract almost progressively.

They're classic records really, every home should own them.

I remember when they dropped, we were going crazy over them. Of course I
think Chez Damier was involved in the production of the first one too.
Which helped of course as it was right around the time all the classic
prescriptions were dropping, and we were going crazy over those too.

the perfect techno heads house records at the time!

RE: (313) Main Street records - buy or die?

2005-04-01 Thread Brendan Nelson
Agreed - you need to get all the Main Street records, basically. Round Five has
a similar feel to a Rhythm Sound track, while Round Four is abstract enough
to sound like an M-series release. Round Two is my personal favourite though -
it knocks me for six every time I listen to it.

2005-04-01 Thread Gerald
a few people have asked me if it's still available... usually the archive is
available for 1 week (till the next weekly edition of Equinox takes it's
place). I received quite a few d/l's on that show and Derrick Ortencio's
guest appearance - this is probably the reason why i went over my bandwidth
allowance for the month.

Anyways... the Traxx session is still on my server. I'll leave it up for
another week, then it's gone for sure. Here are the links:

(313) Attn DJs radio/net show hosts

2005-04-01 Thread Andrew Duke Cognition Audioworks

I've just put together a promo-only sampler CD
(Versions Plus) that I will be mailing
out to the 20 radio/net stations/DJs that have
been most supportive of my music as of late.
I would send out more hard copies, but because
this is not a CD that will be released, I can't afford
to mail more. However, if you DJ gigs or do a radio/net show
and are interested in downloading the album for playing
out, email me (subject line Versions Plus please) with
your info and I'll hook you up with the download info.
This CD is 80 minutes long; a mix of styles from electro,
idm, house, tech house, and techno to ambient, dub,
downtempo, microsound, and noise, and includes remixes
I've done of artists including 313's own Phonopsia, Heavy Meadows,
House Of Orange, and Gary Flanagan,
remixes of my material by artists such as David Kristian and
I8U, unreleased material, forthcoming material,
alternative versions, tv music, sound design for tv, film, web, etc.
Again, this CD won't be available for sale, it is for promo only.
Thanks. Andrew

CONCERTS DJ'S

JOE ENGLISH plays NOISE FACTORY RECORDS (CA)

Just noticed this... that's great to see! Joe's been supporting the local
indie scene here in Toronto for years. He got the name for the label from an
industrial/alternative collective my friends and i were part of back in the
mid to late 80's. A friend of mine (Terence Leung) started using the name
for a few one off events, and I had a college radio show that was called
Noise Factory Radio with another friend (Tony Rizzuto). Joe kindly asked us
back in 199? if he could use the name for a label he wanted to start.

...and on a 313 related link - Mr. Neil Weirnik aka NAW is on the Noise
Factory label. i'm surprised he hasn't chimed in on this yet, as he does

Agreed - you need to get all the Main Street records, basically.
Round Five has a similar feel to a Rhythm Sound track, while
Round Four is abstract enough to sound like an M-series release.
Round Two is my personal favourite though - it knocks me for six
every time I listen to it.

1,2, and 5 were the best for me. i dont like 3 and 4 so much, but
theyre still good. 5 is so deep its ridiculous. i could listen to
it over and over and over and over again. new day is ridiculous as
well. im your brother isnt quite as dope, but its still one of my
favorite vocal house tracks.

otherwise self-serious prattle.

When Alex took a break from (313), things got real
boring around here, not to mention the most important
thing which is his obvious love of good music.

Take it easy on him if he gets a little chatty
