(313) Just ported my account
Just switched over from my MSU account to my Gmail account, and I feel like an idiot for not having done this forever ago. The Gmail account is sweet for the 313 list in that it's conversation style of indexing messages is better than both the digest format and the individual message format. Oh, and re: listening room... the conundrum here is, does this guy have job? Why go to all this trouble if you're not sitting in it 24/7, and how could you do it without some pretty decent cashflow? Mysterious.

Pfff, I don't see a tuned mass damper anywhere to counteract the effects of the wind on his house. He has cables crossing at angles other than 90 degrees! And some of them touch the ground! (not joking, I knew a guy who did this) I can't figure out what the skinny wires coming out of the amps are. It's connected to the amp twice with what looks like a BNC connector. I'm guessing that the guy IS married and this is just the space above his garage! First off, he lives in the freakin' mountains out west in a cedar shingled house (garage matches it). That's big $ right there. He custom built the house to have this acoustically treated space above the garage so he could go out there and get away from his wife (I'm sure she's happy to have him out of the house too) and listen to his jazz music (evidence - framed pics of artists on walls). I bet his house is 5 times the size of this building in the first picture. He's a rich mofo. RE: (313) RIAA at it again
Once again this shows how behind the recording industry is with modern and (not so Modern, mixtapes) brand of marketing. What is also very funny about all of this is that with all of these usless RIAA arrests and lawsuits against napster and other websites the industry is STILL in the cellar. As a matter of fact 2006 was the worse year for cd sales since they've starting registering sales. The number 1 CD of the year only sold 3.5 million. WHAT's their excuse now? They've cracked down on illegal downloading; They've made their arrest; Done their scare tatics and sales are worse than ever. Ja'Maul Redmond 1100 S. J.T. wrote a couple of months ago (Oct 18, 2006) regarding the rerelease of convextion - miranda: If the matrix release doesn't go forward -- or perhaps before it goes forward -- there will be a re-release on down low with only the original track and a new track, mastered at dm, just 300 copies or so. I kinda like this idea since tho it would be a re-release, the re-release would be even more rare, both old and new versions would be special..but we'll see what happens. just dug this old mail up to ask a question. will 'miranda' be rereleased through downlow or will it only be rereleased through matrix? pre-orders on the matrix rerelease are huge from wat i've heard, so i should probably preorder it now. on the other hand i'd rather not buy a 2x12 when i can get the same track on a 12 especially when the 12 is a really good pressing. jurren _ Hotmail en Messenger on the move http://www.msn.nl/services

forwarding submerge/planet e/laurentgarnier/delsin/kompakt .. It is with great honour that Vince have been invited to record for ‘Submerge’. Ran by the Underground Resistance crew out of Submerge Distribution in Detroit, the label is home to none other than UR’s ‘Galaxy 2 Galaxy’ and ‘Los Hermanos’ amongst many other artists. The first single is planned for late spring 2007 and will feature a remix by Gerald Mitchell aka Los Hermanos. Vince’s Planet e Single is now out in stores, and has been massive. Sales are thru the roof and Carl Craig has been hammering both tracks in his sets. Vince will be recording the next 12” in the spring. The tracks are also featuring in Vince’s livesets. Laurent Garnier has kindly agreed to remix one of the tracks from Vince’s hugely successful album ‘The eMotion Sequence’ for the Delsin label. In return will be a remix for Laurent sometime in 2007. In addition, there will also be an album for Fcom from Vince later in 2007. Kompakt new sub label ‘Orphanear’ will be finally releasing the Vince Watson remix of Turner’s ‘She was sent’ in the next month. The remix was originally released for Ladomat and Mute but was moved to Kompakt. The track is Vince’s most accomplished remix work to date and is sure to be a huge hit both in the underground scene and the more mainstream music arena’s.

Re: (313) Music Room
This guy sounds like a complete a$$hole At first I had the gear in the family room (connected to the kitchen/eating space) ... competing with the noise of the dishwasher, the kitchen sink, and 'life' in general. I kept eyeing a large den (a favorite room of my wife) where we had a desk and piano. One afternoon when my wife was gone, I moved all my gear into the den. All of a sudden, I had a dedicated room... which was to be my audio home for the next nine years. I got lucky with the den; it had a very high ceiling (almost 11 feet), a bay window and floor to ceiling bookshelves on the rear wall. Soon the desk and piano were evicted and I settled into audio bliss in MY room. I'm sure his wife was pleased that he took over the room she liked so much while she was gone so much for the marriage I really enjoyed having fellow audiophiles visit me... probably because his wife didn't want to talk to him anymore To me, getting the lighting correct is one of those 'fine details' that can make the enjoyment of the system much better. Typically, the front lighting zone is always off unless I am doing cleaning or setup of some sort. In fact, for serious listening I typically have all the lights off except two 15 watt 'loose' cans that I put on the floor aimed up at the ceiling directly behind the speakers. These 'up-firing' lights cast a warm glow over the front diffuser panel and ceiling and really enhance the whole musical experience. I considered the issue of acoustical problems resulting from all these recessed cans and track lighting. I was concerned that the ceiling bass traps might cause resonance with the metal cases of the cans. I had quite a bit of lead tape applied to these cans before the ceiling was buttoned up to insure it would not become a problem. Once my system was in the room, the first thing I did was to play a bass 'boom' track over and over and search for any resonance. I found three of the cans did have slight ringing from the trim, and secured them. I went around and put my ear close to each light. In the near future I'll get a more sophisticated low frequency sweep, to ensure I have found all possible sources of unwanted resonance. tosser and wanker don't even begin to describe this cnut If I focus on what is not perfect I can detect it... but that is not my way. LOL! Right, he just spent several millions of dollars on a new house, custom construction, overpriced hi-fi equipment, years of work, isolation from his wife and kids, and a multi-page anally retentive article proving that detecting what isn't perfect isn't his way. Not that this is probably of more than tangential importance to the 313 list but: This arrest was complete bullsh?t, has caused an Internet and main-stream-media uproar. Look on Youtube for the Fox news report on the arrest -- the whole thing is a trumped up pile of poo. I'd be scared if DJ Drama was some punk, but the guy has powerful friends, and can afford big, mean lawyers. Everyone involved in this bust is going to end up looking like the worthless chimps they are -- The RIAA, the ATL Police, the George DCI, and those pinheads from Fox who did the ridiculous news report about it. Seriously. This case is going to be the RIAA's worst PR nightmare. They're treating someone who is actually a SIGNED artist as a criminal, someone who has sold more records for them than their own advertising and promotional departments. For the RIAA to even push for this is ridiculous. It just shows how the big 4 1/2 Entertainment Companies are committing commercial suicide in public. If they all died tomorrow I wouldn't shed a tear. Big media conglomerates are vampires. They kill culture, they don't create it. They steal money from their artists, they treat their customers like criminals, and the music they release is almost all awful. They have no future, they have no clue, and they're going down. Oh and this is personal for me: My mom is a composer and arranger, and Sony owes her thousands of dollars in back royalties for work she did in the 90s. Sony only pays her when she goes to the trouble to have a lawyer threaten to sue them. She finally got fed up with Sony and found other sources of income. The entertainment industry, and especially the musical end of it, is run by gangsters, liars, and thieves. They're lower than low, and they've f*cked with my mom. Since this business started I've boycotted Sony entirely, for all the good it's done.

Re: (313) RIAA at it again
Of course Drama made money selling mix tapes, but mix tapes are not a series of unlicensed tracks from commercial releases. Mixtape tracks are based on commercial releases, but are mixed DJ-style, edited, cut with new vocals by the MCs being featured, etc. They're a completely different thing than just an unauthorized compilations. Some labels that are part of the big 4 entertainment multinationals have full time employees whose JOB it is to give Mix Tape DJs tracks to include on their Mixes. Mixtapes aren't strictly legal, but have largely been tolerated and encouraged by major labels. They're where the real innovation in hip hop happens, and where new artists get their break. This bust is a frontal assault on hip hop culture, fair use and fair play. The letter of the law is beside the law is beside the point -- this is a case of straight up thug b*stards from the RIAA pressuring the police to raid someone who was doing them no harm. This is big money multinational corporations using the police and the legal system as their stooges. This is white-on-black crime, not to put too fine a point on it. Re: (313) RIAA at it again
Even if it's something that eventually gets to an album, that album sells more because you can't get that kind of promotion elsewhere. The RIAA should be PAYING DJ Drama for this. They are scheduled for March 9 in Sydney and March 11 in Melbourne. You lucky b***tards :) Fred - I was up last week to see Fiennes in Samuel Beckett and it was unreal but the clubbing was kinda depressing, or maybe I was in a dark place post Beckett (v possible) - I may go again this weekend. I should have researched it more! I am sure Simon and Co know of some cool places. I went to the Beck's Festival Bar and heard some Kiwi jazz. Nothing out of the ordinary however.
